Couple Married In August Rites; Now in Medford Mr. and Mrs. Harold Biffs, married in, August in Guthrie, OkU-, have arrived in Medford and for the time being are with Mrs. Biggs' parents, Mr. and Mrs. Delmar B. GUIlspie, route 1, Medford. The bride is the for mer Alverna Gillispie. The bridegroom , is 'awaiting orders to report for duty with the Army, and Mrs. Biggs ex pects to enroll at Southern Ore gon college September 21 vfor her Junior year. The wedding took place Au gust 20 in Guthrie First Bap tist church, with the Rev. Les ter Patterson reading the ser vice. For the ceremony the bride wore a street-length frock of navy blue marquisette over blue and white striped taffeta, with red and white accessories. Her corsage was of red rosebuds and she carried a white Bible. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Biggs at tended the couple. Mrs. Biggs was attired In a navy blue nylon dress with red accessories and her corsage was of white carna tions. A reception followed in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Biggs, the bridegroom s parents. Assisting were Mrs. Ralph Biggs, . Mrs. Clarence Williams, sister of the bridegroom; Miss Helen Ford, cousin of the bridegroom, and Mrs. Alonzo Ford, aunt of the bridegroom. From Portland Mrs. Itha Johnson and her youngest son, Douglas, Portland, were guests at the home of Mrs. Johnson's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Heard during the Labor day week end. Many Medford Students Leave For Oregon, OSC, Willamette Oregon colleges and universities are beginning fall term activi ties this- week. Freshmen, as a rule, leave earlier than returning Students because of special freshmen events and rushing for sorori- tis and fraternites. Freshman tudents leaving here this week end for Oregon State college included Miss Mary Ann Stansell who left this morn ing accompanied by her mother, Mrs. Don Stansell. Miss Stansell plans to major in secretarial sci ence and her minor is nome economics. Miss Sharon Hogan left yester day with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. M. N. Hogan. She-plans to major in elementary education. Miss Nancy McKinstry, who also plans an elementary educa tion major, left today for OSC with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. N. McKinstry. Miss Carol Bates, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. C. Bates, will enroll as. a freshman in secretarial science. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Padgham have three sons going away to school. Dick will be a freshman at Oregon state and he and his brother Bill left yesterday. Bill is a junior there and is studying forest products while Dick will enroll in a general course for the present. Miss Loretta Helley, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. O. P. Kelley, left Thursday for OSC where she will major in science. Miss Kelley, honor student and co valedictorian of her graduating class last spring, will major in science. Returning sophomores to Ore gon State include Alex Hamilton and Bill Davis, who plan to leave Wednesday; Hal Vrooman and Wilson Moeller. University of Oregon fresh men also leaving this week end include Rosalie Mole, daughter of Mrs. Ends Mole; Elizabeth Reinhart, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Towne; Bob Christ ian, a pre-dental major, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Christian; Ed Bingham, son of Mrs. E. F. Bing ham; Jack Moad Jr., Ned and Ted Landers, sons of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Landers; Don Jacobs; Darrell Brittsan, son of Mr. and Mrs. Granville Brittsan; Blake Maddox, Art Ekerson, Dennis Davis, James Holloway and many more. miss ceua ciogston left yes terday for the university where she will enroll as a freshman in home economics and art. Marlene Kayser, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Kayser left Tuesday for Chico State col lege. She was graduated from Medford Senior High school in 19S2 and for the past 14 months has been employed as a book keeper at First National bank. Willamette university students also are leaving and include Paul Schaffer Jr., Keith Mir ick, Margaret Huson, Nancy Newton, Marcia Houghton, Anne Denman, Barbara Cook, Renae Segar, Carta McKeen, Jeanene Findley, Lynn Stafford. Phil Sweet has left for Spo kane, Wash., where he will en roll at witworth college for his sopnomore year, News from Portland states that Jacquelyn and Joanne Jol ley will attend the University or Oregon this falL The Jolley twins attended Medford Senior high school for two years before leaving to live at Portland with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. L. G. Jolley. , . . Pledged Miss Robene Starcher, daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. Bren H. Starcher, 1570 Stage Road south, was pledged to Kappa Delta sorority at the close of rushing at Washington State college Fri day. Miss Starcher's mother was a member of the same chapter when she attended WSC. Miss Starcher is to enroll in liberal arts. Narcotic Eilm To Be Shown Here Thursday "The Terrible Truth." film which depicts "the shocking eon- sequences of the use of nar cotics' will be presented in Med ford Thursday, September 17, through the sponsorship of At tain dub here. The film .will be shown at Medford Junior High school beginning at 8 pan. Mrs. - Gertrude E. Salisbury, director of the Narcotic Educa tional Foundation of America, will show the film and will lec ture. Mrs. Salisbury will also bring other films to be shown oMy to juvenile authorities, police officers, teachers 'and other adults. , It is pointed out that the use of narcotics by younger people has increased enormously in re cent years, the danger calling for an all-out effort of citizens to meet the danger. Altrusa mem bers urge parents, young people and the general public to see the film. - Final preparations for the showing of the film were made at a meeting of Altrusa club Thursday night. Mrs. Marjorie Butler, president, conducted the session and outlined the object ives of the year for the group. Mrs. Bertha Hasksin, program gram outlined for the year using the theme, "Four Dimensions." Medford Student Attends Wedding Miss Mary Anne Birdseye re turned Wednesday from Colfax, Wash-, where she attended the wedding of Miss Shirley Weitz to William Jayne in that city. Miss Birdseye was one of the candle lighters for the ceremony. Miss Birdseye will leave the middle of this week for Wash ington State college where she will enroll for her sophomore year as a major in recreation studies. ' Auxiliary To Join In Camp Reception Members of the auxiliary- to Veterans of World War I will join veterans' groups in a recep tion Friday, September 18 at 8 p.m. at Camp White, which will honor new staff officers at the domiciliary. The auxiliary will meet at 8 p.m. previous to the reception for a brief business session. v A full membership is request ed by Mrs. Hazel Kincaid, presi dent. A dance September 28 at the domiciliary theater will observe the first anniversary of the or ganization of the auxiliary.
