She said that : she came, to Medford to get away from the earthquake aftershocks and will remain un til they discontinue. : . A report of the third meet ing of the state board of direct ors will be- given and group dis cussion will be held. A commit tee will serve refreshments. On Leave Frank Harden, radio seaman, U. S. Navy, is home on leave visiting his moth er, Mrs. F. E. Harden, 527 South Holly street. Harden is stationed on the transport Calvert at San Diego, Calif., and has spent two months in Hawaii and several months in Japan. After spending two weeks here, he will return to San Diego. . DeBerry, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ola DeBerry, 522 Crater Lake avenue, Medford, has been promoted to the rank . of .staff sergeant at a forward air base of the 1st Marine Aircraft Wing in Korea. Sgt. DeBerry earned his new stripe' while serving with" a Marine ground control interceptor squadron. He joined the Marine Corps in 1949. . Cadet Commended Verne G. Shangle, son of. Mr. and Mrs. Verne J. Shangle, .Kings High way, has been named as one of the three most outstanding ca dets to attend the McChord .Air Force Base summer" training camp. SNYDER Funeral services for Halstead William Snyder, who died in a local hospital Wednesday, will be conducted by the Knights of Pythias in Medford IOOF 'ceme tery at 11 a.m. Saturday. Funeral arrangements are in charge of Chapel Mortuary. ' Mr. Snyder, the son of Wil liam and Jane Halstead Snyder, was born on Dec. 11, 1872, in Cleveland, O. He was married only July 2, 1896, to Rosa M. Runk and came to "Medford 32 years ago where" he worked as a carpenter until his retirement. His wife preceded him in death in 1941. Survivors include two daugh ters, Mrs. R. A. Skinner and Mrs. R. Edward Gould, both of Medford, and one son, Earl, in California. FREDERICK HENICKA " Frederick A. Steel 40Va Youngstown 46 Juvenile Department Handles 99 Cases The Jackson County Juvenile department handled 99 cases dur ing July, it was announced to day. . 'There were 32 new cases last year. One case was transferred from another jurisdiction and the rest were carried over from June. The department closed 37 cases and transferred two to other jurisdictions, -so 60 cases were carried into August Four of the juveniles were de tained in jail. Two more were, committed to private institutions and two to private agencies for foster home care. Nine were given shelter care. The department had 12 court hearings, 212 office interviews and 126 visits.
