An Empire Air Lines' pilot first observed the object near Pendleton, Ore. He though it was another aircraft with a burning engine. Observers at Boise said they noticed it about 10 a.m. and that it landed somewhere south of the Idaho city. Numerous witnesses in Salt Lake City, Ogden and Brigham City saw the object coming from the northwest skies at a high rate of speed. , San Francisco's Stockton street tunnel . bores 911 feet through Nob Hill to connect the downtown area with Chinatown. CaL ' CALCIUM DEPOSITS FOLLOW DISEASE OR INJURY Dr. Brady Driving through days of rainy weather the windshield wiper failed, so I had to work it with my right arm. In conse- quence I suf fered bursitis in' the right shoulder and cried with the pain of it un til the doctor came and gave me a shot or two of mor phine, I sup pose it was. In the course of several weeks. I made a complete recovery, with no limitation of function. A year later, I sustained a frac ture of the left shoulder in an automobile collision. The X-ray man made films of both shoul ders for comparison, and found the bursa in right shoulder cal cified. The shoulder has given no trouble whatsoever since the bursitis. Whether that bursa is still calcified I don't know or care. But my experience goes to show that a bursa may be calci fied although there is no trouble whatever. The deposit of caleium (calci fication) in the bursa was the consequence of the bursitis. It is my opinion and don't forget, I'm not an authority , on anything except maybe, well, never mind that a deposit of calcium or calcareous- material in any part of the body is the consequence, and not a cause, of the arthritis, bursitis, rheuma tiz, hardening of the -arteries or other pathological condition which may be ascribed to it. So far as the rheumatiz or ar teriosclerosis (hardening of the arteries) is concerned, I believe I am fending off both conditions when I take my daily ration of calcium and vitamin D as a sup plement to my regular diet, which, like the diet' of most Americans, is probably deficient in these essentials of good nutri tion and vite. . . I am indeed sorry for people who are training for the rheuma tiz but not enjoying the prophy lactic effect of supplementary calcium and vitamin D because, poor souls they have Ben Told it will cause calcium deposits in their joints. I am especially sorry for them if Ben Told is. a doctor by trade. It seems to me that a medical student or a physician With even an elementary knowl edge of pathology would demand some sort of scientific founda tion for the morbid notion. More over, the dairy interests should inquire into the question, for who is going to eat milk, cheese and eggs, the best food sources of calcium, if calcium is "deposited in the joints and arteries, as the old timers would have lis think? If any medical student, physi cian, pathologist or physiologist has any information or even a plausible theory to support the notion that a "deposit" of calci um can occur in tissues that have not already degenerated, I hope he or she will enlighten me. It is his or her duty to do so, if my teachings about this are not correct. Evaporled Milk My baby, six months old, had plenty of trouble for two or three months when we fed her fresh milk. But since we changed to evaporated milk, about three months ago he has thrived . . . (Mrs. T. M. W). Answer Evaporated milk is virt ually equivalent to whole fresh milk concentrated to half its. original vol ume by evaporation of half of its water. Be sure your baby gets her daily ration of vitamins C, D and B. Cooking Utensils Please give your opinion of stainless steel granite wear and oluminum cook ing utensils . . . (Mrs. N. F.)
