BIX MEDFORD (OREGON) MAIL TRIBUNE Garden Rites Wed ; Patricia Hillis, Edward James Barr ' Rogue River Miss Patricia Lee Hillis became the bride of ' Edward James Barr in a cere- mony held June 8 in the garden of the bride's home. The bride is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs ' Lee Hillis. East Evans Creek road, and the bridegroom's par ents are Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Barr, , Burbank, Calif. The Rev. Vaughn E. Nelson, .. pastor of Wimer Community ' church, read the service at four o'clock In the afternoon. The double-ring service was wltnes : sed by about 130 relatives and ' friends. The bride wore a white linen ' suit with white accessories, her bouquet was of Cecile Brunner ' roses. Mrs. Roland Rabor, Med- ; ford, aunt of the bride, was ': matron-of-honor. Mr. Hillis gave his daughter : in marriage, and Walter Reis- .beck. Mr. Barr and his bride will live in Burbank. The bridegroom is a vet 1 eran of four years service with the United States Air lorce. : County Teacher Is Delegate for NEA Convention Mrs. Bert (Kathryn) Stan cliffe, teacher of social studies in Central Point junior high Mrs. Bert Slancliffe (Bralnerd photo) school, will represent Oregon Education association of Jack son, Josephine, Lake and Klam ath counties at the National Ed ucation Representative assembly being held in Detroit, Mich., June 30 to July 4. At the same time Mrs. Stan' cliffe will be an official delegate to Classroom Teachers of NEA She Is a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, national honorary teacher's society and of the cx ecutive council of Jackson conn' ty division, Oregon Education association. Mr. and Mrs. Stancllffe are now on a vacation trip cast be fore the convention. They left Medford by plane June 11 for Flint, Mich., where they will pick up a new car and drive Into Toronto, Canada. They plan to come back into the United States by Niagara Falls and then motor across New York state to visit in the New England states Places of historical Interest will be the main objectives during their travels. While In New York City they will spend a week sightseeing and seeing radio and television shows. One highlight of their stay there will be attending "South Pacific." Stanford Graduates Five Five Jackson county students were graduated from Stanford university during the 81st annual commencement June 16. Gradu ated were John Moffat Jr., who received a master's degree in the graduate school of business, and John Gooding Rivenburgh Jr., a bachelor of arts in history. Both are from Medford. Two Ashland students were in the class. James Franklin De Lisle received a bachelor of arts in sociology and Charles William Jobbins a master of science in electrical engineering. Robert Bruce Sund, Rogue River, received a master of arts from the school of education. Mr. Moffat and his wife, the former Mary Jane Pitts of Port land, will return to California after visiting relatives here and in Portland and will live in Pasa dena. 4 Rogue River Club Installs Officers; Award Presented Rogue River Rogue River Garden club installed new offi cers at the country home of Mrs. Walter Shock, retiring president, Tuesday, June 17. Those Installed were Mrs. Frank Deck, president; Mrs. Har old Dunham, vice president; Mrs. Sam Bcllah, secretary; and Mrs. Robert Hoover, treasurer. Mrs. R. T. Nichol, Medford, state program chairman, install ed the new officers, and Mrs. E. W. Jermark, state recording secretary of the Oregon Federa tion of Garden Clubs presented the past-president'3 pin to Mrs. Shock. The retiring president then reported on the state federa tion convention to which she was a delegate recently. The club voted to place an exhibit in the Josephine county fair which will be held in Au gust. The coveted Oregon Federa tion of Garden club's state green ribbon award for flower show achievement was then presented to the group by Mrs. Walter Car roll, last' year's flower show chairman, and Mrs. Paul Hughes, staging chairman for the show, "Woodland Echo." A specially arranged prcsen tation of wedding gifts was made to Mrs. Jo Frosh, who surprised the members with her marriage lust week. Refreshments were served by the hostesses Mrs. Carrall, Mrs. J. Kraus, and Mrs. Dellah in the shady crceksldc garden. The horticultural chairman, Mrs. Harry Rose, displayed ar rangements, and Mrs. Carrall showed an outstanding blue del phinium to the club. Other flow- era shown included red Hoover rose arrangement y Mrs. Jane Poole, Gold of Ophir rose buds bv Mrs Paul Hughes, and an unusual deep blue gloxinia by Mrs. Kraus. Johnson, Phoenix, in a home ceremony at 2 p.m., June 7. The Rev. Rolf Hansen of the Community church, Central Point, read the double ring cere mony at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Bloch, 1106 Ellen- dale drive, Medford. Miss Sharon Thompson, cou sin of the bride, was maid of honor, and Miss Sandra Shafer, sister of' the bride, served as bridesmaid. The bride's niece, Miss Anita Bloch, was ring bear er. Best man was the bride groom's brother, Earl S. John son Jr. Mr. Shafer gave his daughter in marriage and ush ers were Myron Shafer, brother of the bride, and Doralene Thompson, cousin of the bride. The bride wore a white taf feta, ballerina length dress and carried gardenias with stepha notls blossoms on a white Bible. Her bridesmaids wore laven der ballerina length dresses, and carried bouquets similar to the bride's. Miss'Delores Davis furnished the wedding music. Following the ceremony a re ception was held at the Bloch home at which Mrs. Bloch, sis ter of the bride, cut the cake. Serving were Mrs. Luther Thompson, aunt of the bride, Miss Phyllis Imhausen, Mrs. Lynn Myers, and the bride groom's sister, Mrs. S. Van Zel. Miss Shirley Kcplinger kept the guest book, and the bride's aunt, Mrs. George Ragner, took charge of the gifts. After a wedding trip to Port land, the couple are now at home at 285 Lozier lane, Med ford. Buffe Falls Women Make Garden Tour; Announce Committees Butte Falls Butte Falls Garden club visited the gardens of several members recently and found wild flowers and shrubs such as azaleas, mountain lilies, and lady slippers blooming. Roses, sweet peas, columbine, and ruffled petunia were among the many kinds of domestic flowers. In the yard of the hostess Mrs. Keith Scott, tea was served, with Mrs. John Hoist pouring. A visitor to the club was Mrs. Roy Trefren. Committees for the year were announced by Mrs, Robert Bee man, vice president, in the ab sence of Mrs. Leslie Horn, presi dent. Assisting Mrs. Beeman on the program committee will be Mrs. John Hoist and Mrs. Frank Carson. The membership com mittee will consist of Mrs. Wil liam Edmondson and Mrs. Car son.
