Bethel Officers Installed In Ceremonies at Temple Miss Jackie Pond, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John R. Pond, was installed queen of Medford bethel, Job's Daughters, at cere monies held Wednesday, June 18 in Medford Masonic temple. The retiring queen is Miss Kaye Durno. Installing officers were Miss Carolyn Coleman, guide; Miss Fidelia Boone, marshal; Miss Carolyn Shangle, senior custodi an; Miss Carla McKeen, junior custodian; Miss Oscella Cald well, chaplain; Miss Corinne Wing, recorder and Miss Harriet Dowson, musician. Assisting him were Hal Vrooman, Paul Shaffer, Derald Brittsand and the De Molay guards. Miss Pond's parents and broth er, Robert, were introduced and honored. Mr. Pond presented his dauehter a spray of yellow rose buds and Robert presented his Bister her gavel. Table Rock council gave Miss Pond red roses. The retiring queen was given the jewel of her office from the bethel, and the new queen was presented a gift from the bethel. An addendum honored Mrs. V. A. Turoin. past guardian, and she was presented a pin. Anoth er addendum honored Miss Dur no. who was given a crown ot flowers, and during an adden dum for the new queen she was oresenled flowers. The ceremonies were follow ed by refreshments and a dance. Meetings Announced For Church Circles Circles of First Christian church will meet Thursday, June 28. Circle I will meet at the home of Mrs. Jerry Pitts, 915 Queen Ann avenue at 1 p.m. for dessert and Circle 2 will be entertained by the leader, Mrs. H. A. McLelland, 811 W. Main street at 1 p.m. for dessert. Cir cle 3 will meet for dessert at 1 p.m. in the home of Mrs. Louis Bish, Spring street and Circle 4 rf will meet in the home of the leader, Mrs. Carl Pearson, 118 Clark street at 12:30 p.m. for a covered dish luncheon. Circle 5 will meet with Mrs. George Hicks, 720 W. Eleventh street at 12:30 p.m. for dessert and the Circle 6 meeting will be held In the home of Mrs. Floyd Putman, 2210 Canal street at 1 p. m. Dessert will be served. Cir cle 7 will meet with Mrs. F. A. Daugherty, 2251 Kings highway I at 1 p.m. for dessert and Circle 8 will meet in Fellowship hall at 1 p.m. for dessert. Mrs. Mag gie Bodenhammer will act as hostess. The new evening circle, to be led by Miss Dolores Lee, will meet Monday evening June 30. Time and place will be announc ed later. Order of Amaranth Holds Last Meeting; Many Guests Present Roxy Ann court, Order of the Amaranth, met In the Medford Masonic temple Thursday eve ning with Mrs. Elton Waldron, royal matron, and James Risley, royal patron presiding. This was the last meeting of the court be fore the summer vacation. Distinguished guests present who were escorted to the throne and introduced were Mrs. Rob ert Ostrom, Cannon Beach, Ore., past supreme royal matron and present grand secretary of the order in Oregon; Frank Douglas, assistant grand lecturer of Ore gon and past royal patron of Friendship court, Klamath Falls; Mrs. Carl Gilbert, assist ant grand lecturer of California: Mrs. L. G. Frink, grand repre sentative to England from the grand court of Oregon; Mrs. Ellen Stover, royal matron from Friendship court, and Charles Gilbert, past royal patron of Honeylake court, Susanville, Calif. Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Dobbyn Sunset court, Seaside, and Rob ert Ostrom of Ionic court, Port land were also present. The fund for providing casts for crippled children in the Portland Shriners' hospital was considerably increased by the birthday march, all those having birthdays in June contributing to the fund. A breakfast was announced for July 27 at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hoppe, Lozier lane. At the close of the meeting refreshments were served in the dining room at tables decorated with peace roses in crystal bowls. i . Pythian Sisters Hold Dinner and Meeting; Demonstrations Given A meeting of Pythian Sisters June 17 followed a potluck din ner at the Pythian building. Members of Boy Scout Troop No. 16 demonstrated the presen tation of the American flag with all joining in the pledge to the flag. The boys then repeated the scout oath and laws and retired the flag, showing the proper method of folding. Those taking part were Jerry Beams, Larry Toole, Brian Schroeder and Scoutmaster George Bryant. A group from Miss Hope's Dance studio presented several numbers. Those taking part were Linda Durkee, Jerol Calla han, Patty Hilton, Maureen Mc Curdy, Walter Knight, Gene Kimbrell, Kathleen McCurdy, Beverly Hogue and Patsy White. Initiation was held for Mrs. Edibelle Reed. She was present ed a corsage and spoke briefly. Mrs. Carl Fichtner was elect ed grand representative to the grand lodge session in the fall, with Mrs. W. L. Walden elected alternate. The next regular meeting will not be until September, with the usual recess during the months of July and August. Pythian Club will meet Tues day, June 24, at 8 p.m. at the Girls' Community club for the regular business and social ses sion. WORD TO THE WISE Memphis, Tenn. They read "Don't Cross Memphis Police." j I I j ' f 4 N X ' " Miss Jackie Pond (Shangle Studio) Footlighter Production To Open Tuesday Night "Suspect," the three-act drama opening Tuesday, June 25, night at the Fairgrounds theater, for a five-night run, is the third Foot- lighter production of the 1952 season. It was preceded by Kauf man and Hart s George Washington Slept Here in February, and in Arjril. by "Goodbye, My Fancy" by Fay Kanin. Three more presentations are planned to round out the year. Reginald Edward Percy and Denham, authors of "Suspect, have related the story of a middle-aged Englishwoman suspect ed of having committed a parti cularly shocking crime many years before. Jerome McDougall, director, has chosen Mrs. Lenore Zapell, well-known to valley theater-goers, to enact the lead ing role. She is supported by Frank Buchter, Jerre Cleek, Mr. McDougall, Cora McMahan. Ruth Kilbourn, Dick Kline and David Whisenant. Tickets are on sale at Pruitt's Music center, Purucker Piano house and Olson's Furniture Girls' State Delegates To Be Honor Guests At Party on Tuesday Medford delegates who attend ed Girls' State at Willamette university this year, will be hon ored at a party at the home of Mrs. Edward Leach, Route 2, Medford, at 8 p.m., Tuesday, June 24. The girls will give reports of the week spent at Girls' State to their mothers, sponsors, and past delegates who are all in vited to the party. The Girls' State program is sponsored by the American Leg ion auxiliary which invites other organizations to help sponsor the girls. This year Miss Kath ryn McAllister was sponsored by Zonta club, Miss Donna Zeit ler by the Catholic Parents' club, Misses Tresa Barr and Ruth Ann Pederson by Medford unit, American Legion auxiliary. Plans are already underway for an old-time melodrama to be presented in August, according to Bernard Roberts, secretary of the Footlighters and stage man ager of the present offering. Festival Actors Will Join Chorus; Plan Rehearsals Ashland Several members of the Oregon Shakespearean fas tival acting company will also sing In the new festival chorus, it was announced yesterday by Director Hans Lampl. The chor us, which the director hopes will be at least 40 voices, will sing for a special concert which will be one of the important features of the 1952 festival. Actors who will sing with the group are Suzanne Hansen, Ash land; Pat Hines, Corpus Christi, Tex.: Marjorie Lovberg, Mis soula, Mont.; Clara Daniels,; Medford; Jack Taylor, San Fran-' Cisco; Virtinia Chesse, San Fran-: Cisco and Donald Meeker, Port-! land. Other company members will play with the orchestra or small instrumental groups which Di rector Lampl will coach. The a caooella chorus will re hearse twice each week, in j Medford on Monday evenings and in Ashland on Friday eve nings. Mr. Lampl will meet the singers Monday, June 23, be tween the hours of 4:30 and 6:30 p.m. at Lincoln school gymna sium in Medford and anyone In terested in singing with the chorus is asked to see him dur ing these hours. It is not neces sary that the singers be trained, it is said .although desirable. String players will rehearse Wednesday and Saturday eve nings and brass and woodwind players will rehearse with the strings Saturday. These rehear sals will probably be held in Ashland. A Madrigal group Is also be ing formed for experienced singers, and this group will re hearse in Ashland three times a week in the afternoons. , A varied program of both sacred and secular music of the Elizabethan period is being planned by Director Lampl for the festival concert, which will be given August 29. Mr. Lampl, on the music fac ulty of the University of South ern California, plays the violin and piano and has had much ex perience in conducting and directing. At Reunion Mrs. Raymond G. Smith, 1015 Rcddy avenue, has returned to Medford from southern Califor nia where she spent several days. While away Mrs. Smith at tended the 25th reunion of her class at Pomona college.
