Medford!KTribuni Cheney Studs Battle Weed Here Tonight Plavine their second straight king's-x contest of the week, the Medford Cheney Studs are hosts to the Weed, Calif., semi-pro nine at the fairgrounds baseball park tonight. Starting time will be 8 o'clock. Medford's aggregation will aim for its second consecutive triumph over California opposi tion. But the Studs may find a tougher opponent tonight. On Wednesday Medford beat Dunsmulr, third ranking nine of the Northern California loop. Weed is ahead of Dunsmuir in the same circuit In second spot. A probable Weed line-up lists Barron or Berdonnl as starting hurler; Frazza, catcher; Dropo, second base; Lee, shortstop; Brown, third base, and Risberg In the outfilcd. The first base possible starter was not listed. In other loop tangles Grants Pass goes to Glendale for a scrap over second place and league leading Lave Junction travels to Butte Falls. Grants Pass is now in second position in the league standings a half-game ahead of Glendale. League pacer Cave Junction, still unbeaten, was idle last week when Prospect reportedly did not show up for Its game. Wheth er the fray will be forfeited was not learned. Central Point's and Ashland's mix is considered Important since the two clubs are tied for fourth spot. The ruckus at Cen tral Point will start at 2 p.m. with Carl Keuners slated to pitch. Acting Manager Dale Graham said that all Millers are to report to the field at 12:30 p.m. The Millers will be without two key players, Jack Burns and Mana ger Ben Fagone, who are at Na tional Guard camp. In the girls' loop opener Central Point beat Butte Falls 25 to 2. 10 In First In the men's game Central Point picked up 10 runs in the first frame, seven in the second and five in the third. The report is from Collier Parris, Sports Editor of the Abi lene Reporter-News. DOING OKAY Herrmann "la doing okay (n 'this free-wheeling, extra tough Class C league," Parris stal ed. Ho had a record of five wins and five defeats as of last Sunday when ho won his fifth game 10 to 5 over Lub bock. Tho ox-Modford chuck or allowed 10 hits, walked ono man and struckout ono. Parris had no statistical rec ord on Herrmann available because tha loop la laboring under a now administration and it Is extremely difficult to got up to dale information. HARD FOR ROOKIE Concerning the WT-NM league, Parris said that it ought to be at least Class B because teams play Class A ball. Clubs in the league are made up most ly of seasoned veterans making it hard for a rookie or limited service player to break in. That's a big boost for Herrmann. Ho soomad to bo seeing considerable relief duty. In ono game Herrmann went in the third inning and Abilene went on to win 28 to 12 to over Pampa. PLAYERS UMPIRE In the game which Herrmann won last Sunday the plate ' um pire gave up in the seventh inn ing because of the heat. The base ump took his place and a play er from each bench worked first and third bases without mishap or rhubarb the rest of the game. MORRIS LEADS HUSKIES Frank Morris, Medford's con tribution to the 1951 All Amer ican high school track team, was the leading scorer with 42 points for the University of Washington thinclads this sea-oh".-The Husky freshman even outpointed George Widenfelt, the heralded one-man gang. . A University of Washington release stated that Morris "step ped right into big time competi tion without losing any of the lustre from his name. He was among 23 Huskies to receive a track letter. Morris was one of two double winners in the Northern division meet, taking both high and low hurdle events. He won either the high or low hurdles in every dual meet and finished as low as third only once.
