New Personnel Officer 1 Named at Camp White Camp White Herman J. Heitkemper has been named to succeed Robert L. Burke as per sonnel officer of the Veterans Administration domiciliary here, it was announced today by Man ager Paul A. Hatton. Heitkemper is being transfer red from the Veterans Adminis tration hospital at Vancouver, Wash. He has reported for duty and with his wife and four chil dren will take up residence at the station. Burke, who was here about a year, resigned from government service to accept position in private industry at Spokane, Wash. Juvenile Department Has 134 Cases in May The May report for the Jack son county juvenile department was issued yesterday, and show ed 134 cases carried during the month with 31 of them being terminated. Members of the department made 135 visits, had 294 office interviews and six court hearings. Four juveniles were detained in the county jail and two were given care in the shelter home Twq Juveniles were commit ted to public institutions and two to private institutions. Mr. and Mrs. John Follett, Cleveland, O., arrived Friday for a three day visit at the ranch home of Mrs. Follett's brother, E. W. Shock, on East Evans road. They were en route to California where they expect to locate and will return for a visit later. Bob Knight is a patient in Jo sephine General hospital, at Grants Pass. Mrs. Grace Kathan, Rogue River, and Mrs. Reason Even sizer, Evans creek, visited Mrs. John Smith and children at Hilt, Calif, last week and attended the eighth grade graduation of their granddaughter, Cheryl Smith. Mr. and Mrs. 'John Shama are the latest couple to enter busi ness in this area. Shama, who was with Barnes Chevrolet of Medford now has the butcher shop in Gelvin's Groceteria, and Mrs. Shama has leased and will begin operating Opal's Beauty shop at Rogue River Junction, this Tuesday. She operated the Central Point Beauty shop through the winter and spring. The Shamas are commuting at present, but expect to move here soon. They have a son of high school age. Mr. and Mrs. Garfield Laws entertained the following guests the past week end: Mr. and Mrs, Andrew Johnson, Portland, Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Bangert and Mr. and Mrs. Lawton Girod, Salem, who were en route home after visiting Betty Bangert at Long Beach and Mr. and Mrs. Enos Thornton at Medera, Calif. Mrs. Phil Strahan left Satur day for Eugene, where she will attend the wedding of her niece, Gloria Rogers. From there she will go to Portland where a sis ter and brother reside. Voters approved the city bud get for 1952-53 by a vote of 39 to 2, at the election held last Thursday in Live Oak Grange hall. Cliff Wright, state director of organization for the American Farm Bureau Federation spoke at the farm meeting held in the Live Oak grange hall Thursday evening. He sketched the history of the Farm Bureau from its or ganization in New York in 1914 to the present time . when its membership numbers a million and a half farm families. Wright explained the bureau's stand on the Hood River resolution, the reappraisal of all lands in the state in the next five years, and the reapportionment of senators and representatives, and stated those are important Issues to watch. Other speakers were. Gene Whittier, regional director and his wife who is secretary of Jos ephine County Farm Bureau and Russ Cary of Roseburg, president of Douglas County Farm Bureau. There was no move to form a center at Rogue River but a cor dial invitation was extended to farmers, members and associates to attend the next meeting of the Evans Valley center on June 19 at 8 p.m. at the W. H. Hall ranch on East Evans creek. Mr. and Mrs. Richard Ni- quette are making extensive al terations in the building which they recently purchased from the Hoppers. Partitions between the sweet shop and the grocery department have been removed and the old fashioned show cases are to be replaced by modern fixtures before the gala open ing at 8 a.m., Friday, June 6. 11 N'S 21 NORTH CENTRAL AVENUE Talent Farm Bureau Center Meets Tonight Talent The Talent center of the Farm bureau, with President L. S. Tiegs presiding, will hold its regular meeting at the Valley- view schoolhouse at 8 o clock to night. Considerable business will be discussed, including the pro posed Valleyview Hospital plan and the Farm Bureau life insur ance program. Anyone interested is Invited to attend. BIBLE SCHOOL OPENS Phoenix The daily vacation Bible school at the Presbyterian church here opened yesterday under the direction of Miss Bev erly Wilson. The theme of the class is the life of St. Paul. Slides have been obtained, and will be shown in the morning to the chil dreh and to adults in the eve nings at 8 o'clock, at which time anyone wishing to see them will bewelcome.
