Miss Hutchinson I Is Co-Ed of Month At Oregon School Miss Shirley Hutchinson, Med ford student attending Willam ette university, was chosen "WU coed of the month" for May at the university. Miss Hutchin son, a junior in sociology, is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Keva Hutchinson, 22 Keeneway drive. The honor is given for out standing activities and character. Miss Hutchinson was recently elected president of the campus Young Women's Christian asso ciation for the coming year. She is secretary of the Oregon Meth odist student movement, and has been active in the Wesley fellow ship. She is a member of the campus UNESCO and is advisor for a Y-teen group. She is a mem ber of the Delta Gamma soror ity, and has served as standards chairman and scholarship chair man for the sorority. A gold trophy was presented Miss Hutchinson by Associated AVomen students at a student convocation, and she will be honored by Salem Soroptomist club at one of their Wednesday noon meetings. She was chosen for the honor by a board com posed of President G. Herbert Smith, Dean Regina Ewalt, the president of the student body and members of the AWS cab inet. (Brainerd photo) WVSO Golf Association Plans Tourney Thursday Local reoresentatives of the Willamette Valley-Southern Ore gon Women's Golf association have completed plans for what is expected to be the largest women's golf event in the history of the Rogue Valley Country club. Thursday, May 22, the association will hold the first tournament of the season at the local club, and about 100 golfers are expected from the clubs affiliated. This includes Corvallis, Coos Bay, Eugene, Klamath Falls, Bend, Grants Pass, and Roseburg. The local representatives, Mrs. Charles Barnes, Mrs. Mahr Rey mers and Mrs. Harvey Robert son, have named a number of committees chairmen to assist: Mrs. Earl Leever, Mrs. Al Lit trell and Mrs. Harvey Pavlat comprise the hospitality commit tee; Mrs. Ray Larson has charge of arrangements for the buffet luncheon to be served at 1:30 p.m. and the "between nines" refreshments. Those in charge of the play will be Mrs. Leslie Schneider, tournament director, and Mrs. Jack Wood, assistant tournament director. Mrs. B. L. Nutting is in charge of handicapping; Mrs. Bayard Getchell, rules and reg ulations; Mrs. James Wyatt, pub licity. The board of directors of the golf association will hold a meet ing Wednesday, May 21, at 5 p.m. at the country club. Mrs. David Evans of Eugene, presi dent of the association, will pre side. - Directors Elected For Knife and Fork Three new board members have been elected by members of Knife and Fork club, and were announced at a meeting of the club Friday night. The new directors are Mrs. Luola Bengt son, Roland Hubbard and Dr. E. R. Durno. They replace Mrs. Alex Spar row, Joseph Lester and Dr. Rich ard Sleeter. Announce Dates Fifth Art Exhibit Of AAUW Chapter Fifth annual southern Oregon art exhibit sponsored by Grants Pass chapter, American Asso ciation of University Women will be held at the Grants Pass High school library June 21-29. Entries will be received June 21 and 22 at the School Library from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. and judging will take place June 25. A reception is planned in the evening for judges, artists, AAUW members and inviated guests. The show will be open to the public June 26-29 from 10 a.m to 9 p.m. at the high school It brary. The committee states ar tists may submit up to five pic tures. Media may be oils, water colors, pastels, charcoal or inks. The junior division will be divided into three age groups: 6-10, 10-14 and 14-18 years. En- try fees will be $1 for senior division and 50 cents for junior division. Mrs. Esther Fox, art instruc tor at the high school is chair man, and Mrs. Sam Bowe is co- chairman. Miss Freisen Wed To Robert Brown In Home Service Miss Louise Frances Freisen and Robert A. Brown were mar ried Wednesday, May 7 in an early evening ceremony held at the home of the Rev. and Mrs. C. W. Frost, 901 North Central avenue. The Rev. Mr. Frost officiated. The bride is a daughter of Mr. I and Mrs. George X. Freison, Ag-1 ate road,-Medford. The bride-, groom's parents are Mr. and : Mrs. Chester Brown, 521 Beatty i street. 1 Given in marriage by her fa ther, the bride wore a gowni of white satin with fitted bodice and long train with lace trim. A crown of lace held in place her white illusion veil. She car ried a bouquet of white carna tions centered with white orchid. As maid-of-honor, Miss Lois Freisen, sister of the bride, wore an aqua blue frock and carried a nosegay of pink and white car nations. Bill Brown, brother of the bridegroom, was best man. War ren Hanlin and Bruce Burch- field served as ushers. Mrs. Nao mi Williams played the organ and Efton Jones sang. For her daughter s wedding, Mrs. Freisen wore a blue sum mer dress with navy accessor ies and a corsage of white carn ations. Mrs. Brown chose a pink suit with brown accessories and white carnations. A reception which followed was held in the Medford hotel banquet room. Miss Ellen Brown had charge of the guest book. Mrs. Burchf ield cut the wedding cake and Miss Barbara Dubs and Mrs. Bill Brown poured. Out-of-town guests here for the occasion included the bride's grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Hen ry Kleiver of Dallas, Ore., and their two daughters, Beverly and Naomi. The couple made a short wed ding trip. They will live at Bremerton, Wash., where the bridegroom is stationed with the Navy. Both were 1949 Medford high school graduates. The bride was employed by the Ko gap Lumber company as a sec retary before her marriage, Kay Marie Fisher One of Candidates For Festival Queen Phoenix Miss Kay Marie Fisher, 44, is one of the five high school girls competing for title of queen of the annual Phoenix May festival. The fes tival is set for Saturday, May 24. Miss Fisher, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Marvin C. Fisher, is sponsored by Phoenix Thursday club. She is a freshman in the high school and attended school in Los Angeles before the family came to Phoenix five years ago. Miss Fisher is a member of the high school Pep club, Future Homemakers of America, is on the staff of the Laurel school year book, is a co-editor of the Phoenician, school paper and is a member of Masquers. She is also a senior Girl Scout a member of Job's Daughters, treasurer of Phoenix Youth club, a youth director of Phoenix Community club and attends Phoenix Presbyterian church. Fraternity Wins All-Campus Sing Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity, directed by Bob Gray, Medford student attending the university, won the annual all-campus sing at the University of Oregon last week-end. The sing was a part of the traditional Mothers' week end celebration at the univer sity. The group's entry was "Pier rot." Judges were Miss Jeanne Scott, Eastern Oregon College of Education; Howard Miller, Sa lem High school and Stanley Glarum, Lewis and Clark college. (Brainerd photo) Philadelphia Girl Becomes Bride of Coast Guardsman News was received here re cently of the wedding April 26 of Miss Thelma N. Dickson and Austin M. Colbert, at Philadel phia, Pa. The bride is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Dickson of Philadelphia and the bride groom s parents, Mr. and Mrs. William J. Colbert, live here at 503 Maple street. The marriage rites were per formed by the Rev. Christopher Gibney in Holy Souls Catholic church rectory at 4 o'clock in the afternoon. About 25 guests at tended the wedding. Attending the bride was Miss Katherine Caraffa also of Phila delphia. John Kimock Jr.i Hazelville, Pa., was best man. For her wedding the bride chose a white organdv ballerina length gown trimmed with white satin ribbons and white satin- covered buttons. Her flowers were a nosegay of white roses and white sweetpeas. The maid-of-honor wore a li lac organdy dress with lilac ac cessories and her nosegay was of yellow roses and lavender sweetpeas. A dinner for the wedding par ty was given by Mrs. Harry T. Langan, at Runncmede, N. J. The couple made a wedding trip to Atlantic City, N. J. They will live at 3615 North 21st street, Philadelphia, 40, Pa.
