FOUR MEDFORD (OREGON) Plan Final Meeting For Oak Grove PTA; Play Day Announced Final meeting of the school year of Oak Grove Parent Tea cher association will be held Monday, May 19, at 8 p. m. in the school cafeteria. Election of vice-president to succeed Mrs. C. H. Thompson. Jr., vice-president elect will be held, and officers for the com ing year will be installed by Mrs. William Knips. Elected of ficers Include Mrs. M. O. Wright, president; Mrs. James Vander Stecn, secretary; and Mrs. Wil liam Davenport, treasurer. A report on the state conven tion will be made by Mrs. Wil liam Davenport, who served as delegate for the group. Cub Scouts of Pack 4 will present a charter to the PTA. Refreshments will be served by mothers of children in the first grade. Mrs. Arthur Lewis is chairman. Oak Grove school annual play day will be held Friday, May 23 with contests and games begin ning at 9:45 a. m. A potluck din ner will be served at noon. Scottish Rite Women Welcome New Member At Meeting Monday Mrs. Ira Canfield, president of Scottish Rile Woman's club, welcomed Mrs. Frank E. English as a new member of the group at a business meeting Monday evening in the Masonic temple. Mrs. Canfield appointed Mrs. II. C. Goldsmilh and Mrs. H. L. Alford on a supply and pur chasing committee. After the meeting the Scot tish Rite men joined the women for the coffee hour. Refresh ments were served at tables dec orated with fans holding red and white carnations. Large baskets of spring flowers decorated the room. Hostesses for the evening were Mrs. Fred Purdin, Mrs. Fred W. Scheffel, and Mrs. Morris Bough ner. The next meeting will be May 26 at eight o'clock in the temple, and will be a social affair. New Service Club To Be Organized By Medford Women Mrs. Verne Foreman, field rep resentative for District 10, Altrusa international, announces the organization of a club for Medford. An organization dinner will be held Saturday, Ma.y 24, at 6:30 p.m. at Rogue Valley Country club. Miss Dorothea Taylor, Seattle, district governor, and Miss Ber- nice Gardner and Miss Dorothy Hollingsworth, Portland, will as sist with the ceremonies. Altrusa, the oldest of women's classified service clubs, was or ganized in Nashville, Tenn, April 11, 1917, In August of that year, Altrusa incorporated, and be came the first national organiza tion of executive and profes sional women, either classified or unclassified. Membership in Altrusa is ex clusively for one outstanding representative of each particu lar business or profession; or women working in an executive capacity, within the territory of an Altrusa club, and is by invita lion only, Mrs. Forsman states. In the International organiza tion, there are over 10,000 pro fessional and executive women In more than 325 clubs through out the United States, Canada England, Mexico, Puerto Rico Central America, and Asia, who work together to carry out At trusa's program of service to fos ter community, state, national, and International betterment, according to tile representative. Like the men s service clubs Altrusa always selects some worthwhile project in the com munity. They are interested in youth guidance, career confer ences, job clinics for teen-agers, scholarships for college students, as well as public affairs and international relations. One of the beneficiaries of Al- trusa's International project Is Miss Inez Posse Escot, a young Latin-American woman who is attending the University of Ore gon in Eugene at the present time. Clubs have been recently organized In Albany, Spring field, and Roseburg, Ore., the representative reports. Portland, Pendleton, and Salem also have Altrusa clubs. Epsilon Sigma Alpha Plans Dinner Monday Epsilon Sigma Alpha sorority will meet Monday, May 19, at 6:30 p.m. at the home of Mrs. Eloise Winklebleck, 940 Whit man. Members are to have a cov ered dish dinner, which will be followed by a business meeting. Specials , 4t COtOONl fn DRUG CtMTRI Meadows Observe 50th Anniversary With Open House Mr. and Mrs. Winton Meadows celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at their home, 250 Lozier lane, May 11. A family dinner was followed by open house, with 30 guests calling. Present for the dinner were the couple's son, Paul, Fall Creek, Ore., and three daughters, Mrs. Charles McQuigg, Medford; Mrs. Ralph Scoville, Applegate, and Mrs. Wes Bressie, Jackson ville. Two other sons, Carl and Fred, were unable to attend. The Meadows have 13 grandchildren. Mr. and Mrs. Meadows were married in Summers county, West Virginia, May 12, 1902. Both are native Wesi Virginians, Mrs. Meadows having been born In 1867, and her husband in 1868. They came to Medford in 1935. Mr. Meadows is a retired car penter. Both Mr. and Mrs. Mea dows are active, and their favor ite, recreations are hunting and fishing. 1 Dinner Ends Year For Ruch Group; Install Officers Ruch Approximately 200 Parent-Teacher association mem bers and guests were present for a covered dish dinner Friday evening, May 9, to wind up a successful year of PTA work. A brief business meeting fol lowed the dinner. A letter of appreciation from the March of Dimes headquarters concerning the Applegate donation of $215 was read. Applegate school presented an invitation to Ruch school to be their guest for an all- day "play day" at which mothers are to serve lunch, Mrs. Fred West, a former pres ident of the group, installed new officers. They are Mrs. Robert Webb, president; George Red head, vice-president; Mrs. Gail Buffington, secretary, and Rex Davis, treasurer. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Kramman were presented a going-away present by the retiring presi dent, Robert Webb. Mr. Kam man is principal and Mrs. Kara man a primary teacher in the school. Mrs. Arthur Peters, Ashland, was hostess to the group. Miss Laird will attend the Northwestern School of Com merce in Portland. Mrs. W. J. Crandall gave the nominating committee's report on club officers. Miss Elizabeth Burr is nominee for the office of president; Mrs. Earl Rogers, vice-president; Mrs. James John ston, secretary; and Mrs. H. S. Chirgwin, treasurer. Mrs. Cay Hufman of Southern Oregon college was in charge of the musical program presented by college students. Mrs. W. A. Sousa played a piano solo and Ken Mohney, sang. Others were Miss June Kelso who played a violin solo and the Misses Doro thea Coe, Kay Davis, and Ruth Newton, a vocal trio; and Lloyd Bunnell, who sang. The refreshment committee was Mesdames R. M. Attwooll, W. J. Crandall, C. W. Koyl, T. R. Nicholson, Emil Peil, Elmo Stev enson, C. D. Winston, and the Misses Bertha and Hazel Steph ens. During the refreshment hour Mrs. Peters played several organ numbers. Station Manager To Speak Friday At AAUW Dinner . Ray Johnson, assistant mana ger and chief engineer at radio station KMED will be the speak er at a dinner meeting of the American Association of Univer sity Women Friday, May 23. The dinner will be served at 6:30 p. m. in the Jackson hotel pioneer room. Mr. Johnson's topic will be "Television." Musical entertainment will be provided by Mr. and Mrs. Har vey Field Jr. Arrangements for the meeting were made by the Misses Jacqueline Rosling, Flor ence Aasson and Shirley Mauer, Reservations should be made by calling Mrs. H.
