t Society and Clubs Amateur Hour Set At Howard School The third annual amateur hour is scheduled at Howard school Friday, May 9, at 8 o'clock in the evening. Students from Howard and Griffin Creek schools will participate. Five prizes will be awarded, those in charge state, and the live Howard winners will go to Griffin Creek May 16 to com pete against the Griffin Creek winners. Rease Braley and Budd Gail were first place winners when Medford Duplicate Bridge club played for master points Tuesday night at the Medford hotel. The Hattons took first with 73 li points in the north-south playing position, and Mrs. Bra ley and her partner scored 87 points for first in the east-west playing position. . Other north-south winners were Mrs. Marrs Gibbons and Mrs. Dolph Phlpps, 73 points, second: Mrs. G. R. Owens and Jack Barr, 72, third place; Mrs. Jean Hall and Bill Kennedy, 61 points, fourth. Additional east-west winners were Mrs. Paul McDuffee and Mrs. Warren Deakins, 78 points, second pace; Mrs. Josephine Clark and Mrs. Alice Swanson, 73 points, third place; Mrs. Al Gilhousen and Dr. S. Kaipn Dippel, 72 points. Plan Final Meeting For Jackson PTA Unit Last meeting of Jackson Par ent-Teacher association for this school year will be held Friday, May 9, Mrs. C. H. Reld, presi dent, reminded members yester day. The meeting will open ai 2:30 o'clock and all parents of Jackson school children and pre school children are cordially in vited to attend. Officers for the new year will be installed by Mrs. Loyd Brans ford, president of the city PTA council, and a convention report will be made by the incoming president, Mrs. Alvin Boswell. New Air Ambulancellke Supporters Plan Service Plane Stops at Medford A new Portland air ambul ance service made its inaugural flight to Medford yesterday aft ernoon to pick up a Central Point woman suffering trom polio. It took her to the Good Samaritan hospital in Portland for training under the program of the state department of voca tional rehabilitation. The new service is the Buck Air ambulance, a commercial service operated by the Buck Ambulance firm of Portland. The patient was Mrs. Maxine Doney, 26, who will be under the care of specialists to be trained in how to do housekeeping de spite her crippled condition. Her at 2:15 The twin-engined Cessna am bulance plane was piloted by Ernie Helm, with Gordon Buck as copilot. It arrived at 2:13 and left an hour later. Officers of Mercy Flights, Inc, the locally-operated non-profit air ambulance service were on hand to welcome the new air service, and to wish' its officers well. The local service operates on a non-competitive basis, and is primarily designed to serve local people in emergencies, and when no commercial service Is avail able. It promised full coopera tion with the new service. Arrangements for the flight were made by the state depart ment. Gold Hill Health Unit Elects New Officers; Mrs. Walker President Gold Hill Mrs. Delos Walk er was elected president of Gold Hill Health unit at a meeting Tuesday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Arthur Boye, North 99 highway. She succeeds Mrs. J. G. Kofahl, president for the past four years. Mrs. William S. Dickinson was elected vice-president, and Mrs. Roy Cameron was re-elected secretary-treasurer. Corsages made by Mrs. George Dorman, were presented to Mrs. Kofahl, Mfs. Cameron, and the retiring vice-president, Mrs. M. Schoene mann. The annual luncheon preced ed the business meeting. Visitors included Mrs. Ray Frisbie of Medford, supervisor of nurses of the county health department; Mrs. Elizabeth McGalliard of Medford, county health nurse; and Mrs. Mary Seville of Gold Hill. Mrs. M. Schoenemann, chair man for the food sale held last month by the unit, reported net proceeds of $42 from the project. Mrs. Melford Hood, clinic chair man, announced that a summer child health clinic would be held June 9 In the basement of the Community Methodist church. Mrs. Kofahl thanked the mem bers for their co-operation and support during her term of of fice. Members of the nominatiing committee included Mrs. Hood, Mrs. Arthur Boye and Mrs. Ethel Mae Kanclier. Plans were made for a dele gation to attend the annual meeting of the Jackson bounty Health association. May 15 at the Guild hall in Medford. Gold Hill unit will furnish cakes for refreshments. Phoenix Cufa Plans ' Annuo Installation For Meeting Friday Phoenix Installation of offi cers will be held at a meeting of Phoenix Garden club to be held Friday, May 9, at Phoenix Presbyterian church at 1 o'clock. Mrs. O. V. Poe will be Installing officer. A new program will be planned. Mrs. Charles Johnson will speak on four new shrubs, and Mrs. Poe will talk on compost. Mrs. George Bourne, Mrs. Charles Hockersmith and Mrs. L. R. Thomas will be co-hostesses. An invitation Is extended to anyone Interested to attend. Lignite coal produced near lone, Calif., is used for the pro duction of montan wax. Abbreviated Ballot Ashland The Ashland Eisen hower for President committee this week recommended that an! "abbreviated sample ballot" be prepared, showing whiob candi- dates for delegate to thfltiational GOP convention are for Eisen hower. Since there are 50 candidates for the 10 delegate-at-large posts, the committee pointed out that there may be considerable con fusion as to who is for whom. And they added that seven of the at-large candidates are Taft supporters, and have filed for election by petition, which would mean they would not be bound to vote for the choice of Oregon voters at the convention, I if they were elected. The committee said, "It is felt that the best insurance to pre vent these acknowledged Taft supporters from capturing un witting Ike delegate votes is to prepare a paid advertisement showing the names of candidates for national committeeman and delegates who are recognized Eisenhower supporters."
