Fagone has said that he Is well pleased with his squad so far and feels that it will do well in the league. He reported the club well balanced except lor pitching. The current roster shows Bill Donahue and Truman Brown as catchers, Joe Pizzuto at first base. Dale Graham at second and Jack Burns at third base. Shortstop is still open. Available for infield positions also are Lee Reynolds and Don Coss. Herb Trautman is in left field. Fagone is now filling the center field slot with a replacement planned when school is out. Right field is still open but three players showing good form will be available by the season open er on May 11. Pitchers include Bill Maiejka and Carl Hueners. Four practice sessions remain before loop play begins. Fagone has asked all players to report today and return all uniforms and equipment. Black Tornado Thinclads Win From Klamath Falls Medford high's track crew, minus four regulars, downed Klamath Falls Saturday in a dual meet at Klamath Falls. The margin was 71? to 50'i. The Black Tornado took first in eight of the 14 events, sweep ing one, two, three in the shot put and 220-yard dash. Klamath placed one, two, three in the mile. Ed Bingham was Medford's lone double victor, taking the javelin with a 164-foot throw and the high jump with a 5-foot 8-inch leap. Other Medford firsts went to Doug Crippen, who ran the high hurdles in :16.1, Jack Moad, with a 47-foot 1-inch put of the ; shot; Bill Redden, who sprinted the 100-yard dash In :10.2. Phoenix won only two firsts. while Rogue River took nine. but piled up sufficient places fori other points to outscort the i Chieftains 83Vi to 70 in thej four school ruckus. Jacksonville' scored 31Vj and Talent 12. Phoe nix and Rogue River entered the largest squad. Rogue River had one triple winner, Ray Hiner, who copped both clashes and the broad jump. He was also on Rogue River'.t winning relay team. Jim Boulter of the Chiefs took both hurdles and was on the relay team. He tied for first with By ron Kile of Rogue River in the high jump. Shaw in the quarter mile and Hunt in the half-mile won other Chief firsts. Roy Rogers downed Denny Todd, Klamath Falls, in his first match then was defeated by Dick White, Grants Pass. Medforditts Los Dave Davis, Medford. fell In' the first round to White. The Medford doubles team of Ed Davis and Larry Edwards lost in the opening round to Jim Davidson and Shannon Oldham of Klamath Falls. Brown and White. Medford's Stan Kalapus, who has beaten Brown, missed the tourney because of sickness. Bill Perl Hoop Manager at UO Bill Perl, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Perl, J36 North Oakdale avenue, has been named head basketball manager for the Uni versity of Oregon team. Crater High Nips Viking Nine 3 to 2 Central Point Crater hieh school's Comets handed Myrtle Creek its first setback in JDJ league baseball action Friday by nicking the Vikings 3 to 2 at Central Point. Myrtle Creek still holds the loop lead with four wins and one loss while Crater ranks second with three victories and two de feats. The Comets scored their win ning run in the seventh and final canto. Del Tucker singled and went to second on an error and Gordon Carrigan drove him across with a single. Crater opened the scoring in the first inning when Howard Morris doubled, went to third on a groundout and dashed home on an error. The Vikings knotted up the game in the fourth frame when Komp singled, stole sec ond and tallied on successive groundouts. Lead Regained The Comets regained the lead in the same Inning. Morris walked, stole second and went to third on an overthrow to second. He was squeezed home by Bob Hill. In the fifth the Viks deadlocked the game again as Cavener got on base on an error and Jones and Komp singled. Crater employed aged strategy to prevent a run when Myrtle Creek had men on second and third in the second inning. Catch er Morris heaved the ball In an apparent attempt to catch the runner at second. But Vern Parent came in, cut off the throw and fired the ball baok to Morris who tagged out the other runner trying to score. Punky Monroe, chucking for Crater, struck out 11 batters and walked three while Phillips. Viking thrower, fanned six and walked two. Oregon State college grabbed first place in the Northern Division base ball race Friday by trouncing a slumping University of Idaho team 16 to 5. The Beavers, tied with Oregon with a 4-2 record before the con test, slammed out 18 hits off four Idaho pitchers and clinched the win with a nine-run second inning. A two-run homer by Catcher John Thomas highlight ed the outburst. OSC left fielder Duane Helbig contributed to a flurry of extra base blows by hitting two triples and two doubles in five trips. Freshman Chuck Fisk, the divi sion's leading batsman, collected 3 for 6 for the Beavers. The loss dropped Idaho Into the cellar.
