Daughter Born Relatives here have received word of the birth of a daughter, Gladys Ann, to Mr. and Mrs. Hal Jewett, Springfield, Ore. The Jewett's have one other child, a daughter, Grace. Grandparents are Mrs. Annice Wilson, 1103 Spring street, Medford, and Mr. and Mrs. H. P. Jewett, Central Point. Eye Surgery Wiliam O. Ham, route 4, box 370, and Dan iel Bench, route 1, box 237, Tal ent, had eye surgery today at gSacred Heart hospital, the hos pital reported. Julian Daily, 415 Marie street, and William C. Troxel, 302 Crater Lake avenue, entered the hospital yesterday for medical treatment. Family Visiting Capt Boyd P. Bellamy, his wife and son, Storme, are visiting with Cap tain . Bellamy's mother, M r s. Clarice V. Prince, Phoenix. They arrived Sunday and plan to leave the end of the week for Mobile, Ala., where he is to receive his orders for transfer to Puerto Rico Air Force base. The family also will go to Puerto Rico. Mrs. Ballamy is the former 'Miss Doro thy Pitman of Medford. Captain Bellamy attended Phoenix schools and has been in the serv ice since 1942. During World War II he served in England. Shop Opens Mrs. Ada Fow ler, Phoenix, has reopened Ada's Beauty shop there, she reported today. The shop has been closed about two months because she has been ill, Mrs. Fowler said. Rummage The Presbyterian church Bethany-Trinity circle, formerly East Side circle, will sponsor a rummage sale at Eighth and Holly streets, Thurs day and Friday, April 24 and 25. Hol brook, Navy seaman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Roy J. Holbrook, 811 Pennsylvania avenue, is serving on board the destroyer USS Rowan which recently began its second tour of duty in the Ko rean campaign, according to a Navy release. His wife is the for mer Miss Marie Smith of Eagle Point. Seaman Holbrook is a Medford high school graduate and entered service in January, 1951. MAN ARRESTED Charles H. Ussery, 41, of route 1, box 186, Eagle Point, was ar rested at about 9;40 p.m. Tues day by city police and charged with driving while under the in fluence of intoxicating liquor, ac cording to police records. Salem (U.R) Reports reach ing the State Bureau of Labor that farmers are working chil dren under the age of 16 years during school hours brought a stern warning Wednesday from State Labor Commissioner W. E. Kimsey. He said any farmer hiring a youth under 16 for farm work while school is in session does so illegally, and is subject to the penalties of federal and state child labor laws. Salem (U.R) Another attempt will be made to raise all charity and welfare funds through one drive, Oregon Community Chest leaders were told Tuesday. Some 30 or more years ago the Community Chest was form ed to raise money in one drive for all such purposes. But as the years went by one organiza tion after another started an an nual drive of its own until now there are nearly as many drives as before plus the Community Chest. - The matter brought up at the statewide meeting here was that of combining Community Chests and councils and the mul tiple agencies now holding an nual drives into one general or ganization to be known as the United Fund Appeal. The Medford fire department and Conger-Morris ambulanca service stood by while the plan came In. The northbound plane took off at 7:39 a.m. and lost use of one engine about one minut later when about two mile north of the field. The plana, piloted by Captain Fancher, landed at 7:43 a.m. Invited.
