TWELVE MEDFORD (OREGON) MAIL TRIBUNE Wednesday, April 23. 1 95 J Student Visitation Week-End To Show SOC Departments Ashland High echool seniors who visit Southern Oregon col lege this week-end will have an opportunity to observe practical demonstrations by each of the major instructional departments, according to Dr. John A. Schulz, chairman of the visitation pro gram. Staff members and undergrad uates have prepared a compre hensive series of activities to be presented Saturday -.which will give visiting students a clear picture of the Southern Oregon curriculum, Dr. Schulz said. Par ticipating in the program will be departments of education, secre tarial science, social science, English, art, music, science and physical education. More than 500 southern Ore gon high school students have been invited to attend the annual affair. A social hour Friday eve ning will open festivities, to be followed on Saturday by a gen eral assembly at 9 a.m., depart mental demonstrations, a tea at the home of Dr. and Mrs. Elmo N. Stevenson, minstrel show dance and Sunday church serv ices and outdoor band concert. The business department, un dcr the direction of Alwin V. Miller and Veva E. Wilson, will demonstrate modern office ma chines from 9 a.m. to 12 noon Saturday, Assisting with the pro gram is the Future Business Leaders of America club and the Medford chapter of National Of fice Management association, to be represented by Don Cruik shank, Winston Carl and Charles Hill. Businessmen of the commu nity will be welcomed at the ex hibition, Professor Miller said. At 11 a.m. the English depart ment will demonstrate prepara tion of a radio program in the recently completed college stu dios. The oral interpretation class of Angus L. Bowmer will participate assisted by faculty members Dr. Arthur Kreisman, Leon C. Mulling and Charleen Kring. An elaborate program has also been planned at 10 a.m. by the education department headed by Dr. John D. McAulay. Lillian Nicholson, first grade teacher at the Lincoln Laboratory school in Ashland, will conduct a story dramatization In the library of children's literature assisted by pupils of her class. Dr. McAulay said Miss Nicholson is considered one of the outstanding primary teachers of Oregon, adding that her demonstration should be en lightening to prospective teach ers. Also participating in the edu cation department's portion of the program will be Bertha Smith, Dr. Bill A. Sampson, Mrs. Betty Lou Dunlop and Ken Mohncy, Close Vote Allows Youngsters To Dance Willmar, Minn U.R) High school kids were ire to fox trot at school dances Wednes day after parents' groups won a bitter election fight over the issue. Willmar's clergy had strong ly attacked the proposal lo allow high school dances and a record number of voters went to the polls Tuesday to approve such dances for the first time. The measure car ried 1.392 to 1,042. SOC Student Named State FTO Leader' Ashland Southern Oregon college was honored this week when Kenneth L. Mohney. Sa lem, a SOC student, was elected president of the newly organized Future Teachers of Oregon or ganization. State elections were held at Lewis and Clark college Mohney has served as presi dent of the SOC chapter of Fu ture Teachers of America for the past two years.
