tlazarene Church Anniversary Noted The Rev. Fred M. Weather ford, Arlington, Ore., will speak Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at the 30th anniversary service at the Church of the Nazarene, Holly -and First streets, according to the pastor, the Rev. Vernon Wil cox. Mr. Weatherford was a pastor of the local Nazarene church for 11 years, from 1934 to 1945, and to well known in religious and civic circles here. It was under his leadership that the present commodious church building was erected, and the member ship Increased by over 150 per cent. The church was organized on April 2, 1922, and the Rev. C. M. King, still a resident of Med ford, was its first pastor, con tinuing in that office for six years during which time the first church building at Jackson street and Central avenue was built. . The public is invited to attend the anniversary, service. The explosion, biggest under water blast yet to be set off at the site of the new The Dalles dam, was watched by hundreds of residents parked along high way 30 and was designed to clear the river bed where water will be discharged frcm power house turbines. Federal and state fish experts patroled an area below the blast and recovered a number of stur geon killed by the explosion, in cluding one 9V& feet in length, and weighing about 500 pounds. SOCTFA To Install New Officers Friday ' New Officers of the Southern Oregon Conservation and Tree Farm association will be install ed at a dinner meeting at 8 p.m. Friday in the Pioneer room of the Jackson hotel, it was an nounced today. Dinner will be preceded by a social hour at 7:30 p.m. In addition, a panel discussion of some of the problems con fronting the industry this year, and in the 1953 legislature, will be discussed. They include taxa tion, highway legislation, indus trial accident commission rul ings, and other matters. DEMOLITION OF OLD BANK BUILDING Is nearly complete, pro viding better setting for Philadelphia's Independence Hall, most famous American shrine. Historic structure has been partially obscured during years by financial institution. (International) Rush Electric Files Incorporation Papers Salem (U.R) Rush Electric, Inc., of Medford, filed articles of incorporation Tuesday. They were signed by John F. Rush, Anthony Cappello and B. Kent Blackhurst. Rogue River Lumber Firm Files Articles Salem (U.R) Articles of incorporation were filed Tues day for the Shumaker Lumber company of Rogue River, Jack son county. They were signed by Clyde M. Shumaker, Jane I. Shumaker and Burton L. Coan. OTI Difficulties ' Said Straightened Salem (U.R) Difficulties at Oregon Technical Institute at Klamath Falls have been straight ened out, the Oregon Tech ad visory committee reported to the State Board of Education here. Charges had been made that adequate facilities were lacking and that two staff members had been released with insufficient cause. The advisory committee said release of the staff members was required by law, but they had been reinstated., The committee described other charges as frivo lous. ' Washington Prohibits Canadian Meat Imports Olympia (U.R) Gov. Arthur B. Langlie has prohibited by proclamation further imports of Canadian cattle or meats. The governor said he declared the state of emergency to pro tect Washington's livestjek in dustry from Canada's foot-and-mouth disease epidemic. He said the livestock industry' is basic to the economy of Washington state. Many Tax Cases Wrongly Dropped Washington U.R) An Inter nal Revenue Bureau attorney has testified that 31 tax fraud cases dropped in New York in the last few years should have been prosecuted. The attorney, Earl C Crouter, is a member of a special board of inquiry of the Internal Reve nue Bureau. He said many of the cases were dropped while Daniel A. Bolich was special agent in charge in the New York area. Bolich, who is under subpoena to testify Wednesday before the House ways and means subcom mittee investigating tax scan dals, was agent in charge in 1946, 1947, and until Sept 1, 1948, when he came to Washing ton as assistant internal revenue commissioner. Telephone Installers To Strike on Monday Washington (U.R) The CIO Communications Workers has served notice 'on the Western Electric company that telephone installers will strike next Mon day' in 43 states unless their wage dispute is settled. CWO President Joseph A. Beirne notified the company that 15,750 installers and sales employes are set to walk off their jobs at 6 a. m. (local time) Monday. The union has demand ed a "substantial" wage boost A union spokesman said 1,250 workers at the Western Electric plant at Buffalo, N. Y went on strike Tuesday, at the expiration . of their contract Truck Driver Escapes Injury in Accident Vernon Chamberlain, 34, of Shady Cove, miraculously es caped possible death or serious injury in a log truck accident about a quarter-mile south of Trail about 10 a.m. Tuesday. . As Chamberlain was hauling a load of logs to the Segessen- man Lumber company mill at Shady Cove, the steering mech anism broke on the truck, caus ing the vehicle to leave the road and turn over. It was completely demolished. Chamberlain escaped unhurt.
