Home Rites Wed Norma Jane Ward, Thomas Carlton Jr. 4 A- single ring ceremony at 8:30 o'clock in the evening, Feb ruary 28, wedded Miss Norma , Jane Ward to Thomas A. Carl- ton Jr. The Rev. Kirkland D - West of the Medford First Pres- byterian church performed the rites at the home of the bride's .: brother, W. H. Ward, 901 South j Ivy street Only members of the immediate families attended. ' The bride is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Verna Ward, 108 Mis tletoe street, and the bride groom's parents are Mr. and Mrs. Thomas A. Carlton, Gold Hill. ' ' - . Miss. Diane Fries was maid of . honor. Johnny Haven served as best man. The bride's father gave her :- in marriage. For her wedding she chose a gray suit with black accessories and she wore a pur ple corsage. The maid of honor wore a rose suit with navy blue acces sories and a- corsage of yellow 'roses. The rooms of the Ward home were decorated with yellow and - white- snapdragons. ' " ' A reception followed the cere mony and the couple made a . brief wedding trip to the coast. They are living at 20 Laurel street The bride has been employed as a bookkeeper at the United .States National bank and is a 1990 Medford senior high school graduate. The bridegroom was graduated from Prospect high school in 1948 and is an em ployee of the Double Dee Lum ber company. Luncheon Mrs. Larry Neely was host ess Tuesday noon for a luncheon honoring Mrs. Al Crose, Salem, state Lions club auxiliary presi dent nd Mrs. Clarence Humble, Klamath Falls, state auxiliary vice-president. See them ' at Sojourners Plan Annual Guest Day At Last Meeting Plans were made Thursday at a meeting of Medford Sojourn ers club for a guest day party to be held March 27 in the Med ford hotel. A dessert luncheon will be served at 12:30 p. m and reservations for members and guests are to be made with Mrs. Frank English, phone 2-5775, not later than March 24. Mesdames K. L. Denton, H. M. Finney, C. L. Gabie, and O. L. Boyer, became new members at the meeting. A short business meeting was held followed by an afternoon of cards. Bridge prizes went to Mrs. F. W. Rehling, Mrs. A E. Stout; canasta prizes to Mrs. O. L. Boyer, Mrs. Frank English; pinpchle prizes to Mrs. H. T. Day and Mrs. Maynard Paup. Special prize went to Mrs. Mabel Wright. Hostesses for the afternoon were Mrs. N. F. Reed and Mrs. Rehling. Thirty-eight members attended. The next meeting of the group will be the guest day party with the officers and board members serving as hostesses. All new comers and prospective members are invited. Prospect Student Elected President Miss Monte Middlebusher, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Middlebusher, Prospect, was re cently elected president of the Oregon State college chapter of Alpha Omicron Pi sorority. Miss Middlebusher, a junior, is a physical education major. Alpha Omicron Pi sorority was founded January 2, 1897, at Barnard college, Columbia uni versity, New York. At present there are 55 active chapters at colleges throughout the United States and Canada and 70 alum nae chapters. Alpha Rho chapter at OSC, was reactivated in 1945 and re cently built a new chapter house on the campus. Kinzua Family Here t To Visit Relatives Visitors here from Kinzua, Ore., for the week-end last week were Mr. and Mrs. Gerald C. Rood. Mrs. Rood is the former Miss Betty Myers of this city and is a daughter of Mrs. Edna Bedford, 124 Lincoln street ' While here they also visited Mrs. Rood's sisters and their families, the John Bre wolds, 110 Renaulty street, and Mrs. Har old Von Stein and twin daugh ters, Central Point. This was the first time that Mr. and Mrs. Rood had seen the twin children, Teresa Lee and Candace Marie Von Stein, who are 5Vi months old. They visited a former school mate of Mrs. Rood, Mrs. Ken neth Watson, formerly Miss Patricia Crawford. Pledged ' Miss Sally Cooney has been pledged to Delta Gamma sorority at Willamette university. Miss Cooney, a freshman, is a daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Cooney, 717 Dakota avenue. There will be a question and discussion period following the program. Medford Students Attend Tournament At Oregon College Four students from Medford participated in the 22nd annual inter-scholastic forensic tourna ment of champions on the cam pus of Linfield college, McMinn- ville, the week-end of March 6-8. Taking part were Miss Jean Kyle, student at Willamette uni versity; Miss Margaret McCor- mick and Miss Elizabeth Collins, students at the University of Oregon, and Miss Constance Ins- keep, Southern Oregon college student. Miss McCormick placed second in the interview section of the junior women's division and Wil lamette university placed fourth in the senior division for the entire tournament. Approximately 600 students I from nearly 40 colleges in the western states attended the three- day conference, which was un der the direction of Professor R. D. Mahaffey, head of Lin- field's speech department. Tro phies and certificates were awarded to teams and individual winners. Events included debate, ex temporaneous speaking, experi mental, interview, student con gress, and acting. Members of the speech department here and students majoring in speech as sisted with the conference sched ule, including judging. The tourney is one of the old est invitational forensic meets held annually in the United States. Bandar. March XI. IMS MEDFORD (OREGON) MAIL TRIBUNE THREE Speakers' Club Hears Three Members Talk At Meeting Monday Medford Toastmistress club heard Mrs. Vernon Thorpe speak on The Pentagon," and Mrs. L. N. Parsons, talk on "Pre School Children and Kinder gartens," when they met Mon day, March 10 in the Girls Com munity club. Mrs. Gerald Morrissette spoke, with her subject being, "A Friend." Mrs. Ben Stafford was toastmistress and Mrs. George Mclntyre evaluator. Mrs. J. .W. White, was timekeeper. Members gave each other top ics to speak on instead of there being a regular topicmistress for the meeting. At the close of the session, Mrs. Morrissette an nounced that she was leaving soon to join her husband in In dianapolis, Ind., where they plan to be for an indefinite period. She has been an active member in the Toastmistress club. ' Here Mr. and Mrs. Earl Wymore, and children, Dorothy and Rickey, arrived today from Port land to visit Mrs. Wymore's par ents, Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Hon, 213 Crater Lake avenue. Both are former Medford residents. Medford Attorney To Speak for Club waiter Nunley, Medford at torney,, will speak for a meet ing of Medford Business and Pro fessional Women's club to be held Thursday, March 20, in the Pioneer room of the Jackson ho tel.
