TWO MTOFORD (OHEGOIT) Miss Colbeth Wed To Da r re 1 1 Smith In Church Service .An event of Sunday, March 8, was the wedding of Miss Shir ley June Colbeth, daughter of Mr., and Mrs. Ernest J. Cox, 412 Crater Lake avenue, to Dar rell Warren Smith, son of Mr. and , Mrs. Harold W. Smith, route 3, box 130, Medford. The ceremony was held at First Bap tist church and was read by the Rev. Wolford A. Dawes, who had also married the bride's parents.; . The double-ring rites were per formed at 2:30 o'clock in the presence of 75 guests. Baskets filled with snapdragons and ferns were combined with palms and candelabra to provide a flor al setting for the bridal party. The bride wore a gown of white satin, with white lace bodice and a sweetheart head piece held her fingertip length veil trimmed in lace. She car ried a colonial bouquet of pink rosebuds and carnations. Mr. Cox gave his daughter in mar riage. Miss Viola McConnell was maid-of-honor. She wore a frock of pale blue chiffon with Amer ican Beauty accessories and car-' ried pink and white carnations. For her daughter's wedding Mrs. Cox wore a navy blue dress with pink accessories and a cor sage of pink carnations. The bridegroom's mother wore a gray dress wth corsage of white carnations. Dean Pratt was best man for the bridegroom and ushers were Pat Viles and Franklin Jones, cousin of the bride. The ceremony was followed by a small reception at the home of the bride's parents, with the traditional wedding cake served. Later a family dinner was held. The newlyweds traveled to the coast for a honeymoon. Lat er the bridegroom, who is as signed to the USS Washburn of the United States Navy, will re port to San Diego for further duty with the Navy. The bride attended Medford high school and the bridegroom attended high school in Phoenix. Among the wedding guests were Mrs. Bernice Van, Klam ath Falls, Ore.; Mr. and Mrs. Leo Thode, Long Beach., and Eldridge Heath, grandfather of the bride. Meeting Scheduled Wednesday Study club will meet Wednesday, March 19, at 2 p. m. at Girls' Community club. Wood will be hostess in her home at 2445 East Main street for the March meet ing of Medford branch, Amer ican Association of University Women. It will be held. Wednes day, March 19 at 8 p. m. All members are encouraged to attend this meeting as an in teresting program on the status of women entitled "Spring Blos som" is planned. Mrs. D. B. Reputation tJ Attend Meeting; Mrs. Hood on Ticket A delegation from Crater Lake chapter, Daughters of the Amer ican Revolution, will go to Eu gene this week-end to attend the annual state conference of the group. Sessions will be held at the Masonic temple there, and Lewis and Clark chapter of Eu gene is the hostess chapter. Attending from Medford will be Mrs. Boone G. Harding, a past state regent; Mrs. D. O. Hood, state librarian; Mrs. Ray K. Bailey, chapter regent; Mrs. G. Q. D'Albini, Mrs. Stanley Chjrgwin and Mrs. E. C. Root. Mrs. Hood is on the ticket of Mrs. Arthur E. McLean, Port land, who is running for state regent. Crater Lake chapter has endorsed Mrs. Hood for the office of state historian. , Mrs. George R. Hyslop, the retiring regent, will preside over the sessions which open Sunday with a memorial service and of ficers' dinner. Frank E. Holman, Seattle attorney, will speak at a banquet Monday evening. About 100 delegates are ex pected to attend. Guest Day Observed By Medford Zontians; Faculty Member Talks Guest day was observed by Medford Zonta club at the club's luncheon Thursday at the Jack son hotel. Included among the guests were several former mem bers of the service club. Miss Duane Maddox was guest soloist, singing among her num bers an Irish melody to observe the coming of St. Patrick's day. Green table decorations were al so in honor of the day. Mrs. Justin Smith, faculty member of Medford senior high school, was guest speaker and gave an informative $alk on NATO. She began with a resume of events which started in 1946 leading up to the formation of the treaty organization. Mrs. Smith stated that the present NATO, which now has 14 sign ers, is combining political, mor al and military fronts to contain Communism withjn its bounda ries. The speaker also pointed out that the next 90 days will be crucial for in that time Con gress must adopt a budget which will determine the amount of military and foreign aid we will give to sustain NATO. , Grand Chief Plans Visit in Medford Mrs. Vera Sharp, Gaston, Ore., grand chief of the Pythian Sis ters, will make her official visit to the Medforfl organization on Tuesday, March 18. A potluck dinner at 6:30 p. m. will precede the 8 p. m. meeting. Three members will be initiated. The officers and staff of the Pythian Sisters will hold their final practice for initiation to night at 7 p. m. at the Pythian building.' Book Club Contemporary Book club will meet at the home of Mrs. C. I. Drummond, Ross lane, Wednes day, March 9, at 1:45 p. m. Mrs. Edwin R. Durno is in charge of the program. Project Explained By Auxiliary Head During Visit Here Mrs. Al Crose, Oregon state Lions club auxiliary president, who made her official visit to the Medford 'and vicinity auxil iaries Tuesday evening, spoke to the members concerning their state project of assisting . the blind. Mrs. Crose explained a new work in this connection, that of conducting 6-day schools for parents of blind children, teaching the parents how to cope with problems and' care of the children. Authorities in this field are brought to Oregon to conduct the schools. She made the talk during a banquet meeting held in the Medford hotel. Mrs. Clarence Humble, Klam ath Falls, first state vice-president, spoke to the group in re gard to organizing and charter ing new clubs. Mrs. James Campbell, presi dent of the Medford club aux iliary, introduced other presi dents who attended. They were Mrs. Eileen Larson, Prospect; Mrs. J. L. Graffis, Gold Hill; Mrs; Arthur Rupp, Central Point; Mrs. Warren Haggard, Phoenix; Mrs. P. J. McAbee, Talent; Mrs. Willard Buchanan, Crater club auxiliary. Mrs. Buchanan in turn presented other members. Mrs. Addie Wilson, one of the Medford club auxiliary 25-year charter members, ,, was intro duced. Color films of Mexico and Guatemala were shown by Mrs Lloyd Sanders. , Missionary Union Announces Session In Medford Church Women's Missionary union of the Southern Baptist convention will meet in Medford's Temple Baptist church, Tuesday, March 18. Here for the session will be Mrs. Sylvia Wilson, president, and Mrs. Roland P. Hood, sec retary, both from Portland. About 50 are expected to attend. The program opens at 6:30 p. m. with Mrs. Perry Johnson, Medford, associational president, presiding. Mrs. Hood will be speaker. Women of Temple church will meet Monday at 10 a. m. at the church to make preparations for the meeting. Mrs. Wallace Free land is chairman of the planning committee. A business session of the union was held last Tuesday at the home of Mrs. Kelly Braziel, Talent. The lesson was taken from the Book of Acts. Mrs. J. C. Hart took charge of the pro gram with Mrs. Jack Couey, Mrs. Role Ellis, Mrs. Dessa John ston and Mrs. Freeland assisting. Refreshments were served by the hostess. Lady Elks"- Lady Elks will meet Tuesday, March 18, in the party lounge of the Elks temple. A dessert luncheon will be served at 2 p. m. followed by bridge ca nasta and pinochle. Hostesses will be Mrs. Ray E. Wright. Mrs. A. Wattenburg, Mrs. Thomas D. MacLeod, Mrs. Clifford L. Howard and Mrs. Fred W. Rehling. Wives of all Elk club members are cordially invited to attend. Portland Woman Inspects Lodge; Initiates Sixteen Degree of Honor lodge held inspection and Initiation Tues day evening at the Pythian hall with Mrs. Ethel L. Hiatt, Port land, as inspection officer. Mrs. Hiatt complimented Mrs. Al Boswell, president, on her ef forts to improve and expand the lodge and gave it a high point rating. Two state officers, Mrs. Alpha Newman, state second vice-president, Grants Pass and Ms. H. G. Wilson, Medford, state secretary, were welcomed as guests of hon or and presented with corsages. Mrs. Wilson is also director of Medford's Junior Degree of Hon or lodge. , Two junior club officers, Dar lene Morrow, president and Vir ginia Carlson, usher, presented gifts to Mrs. Hiatt, Mrs. Wilson, Mrs. Newman and Mrs. Boswell. Candidates . initiated were: Mrs. Tom Ginn, Mrs. Serena mc Mahan, Mrs. Wesley B. Rags- dale, Mrs. Bernard Rice, Mrs. James Neff, Mrs. John Thanos, Mrs. Claude Putnam, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Morrow, Mr. and Mrs. J. R. States, Miss Mary Freder ick, Mrs. Katherine Frederick, Mrs. Wilbur Culp, Mrs. D. E. Grout and Emern Sledd. The drill team and chorus en tertained, wearing formal dress. This group is composed of mem bers of Medford and Ashland lodges and is under the direction of Mrs. Clyde Hillyer with her son, Bob Hillyer, as pianist. A candlelight supper was served by officers of the organi zation. Tables were decorated with story-book dolls represent ing officials from . each of the three southern Oregon lodges. Refreshment time was enlivened by a special membership quiz to determine who should be fu ture "queen of May." By scoring the most points, Mrs. Matilda Deitrich, a charter member, won the honor. A gold-inscribed guest book was presented to the lodge by Mrs. Hiatt and accepted by Mrs. Boswell. Among visitors from other lodges were Mrs. Howard Stoll, president, Ashland and Mrs. Ray Scribef, president, Grants Pass. Sp ring Tea Held By Two Hostesses Among the recent spring par ties was a tea given last Sat urday afternoon by Mrs. Fred T. Burich and Mrs. Hugh Col lins. The event was at the home of Mrs. Burich, 2303 Hillcrest avenue, which had been deco rated with arrangements of daf fodils. Pouring during the afternoon were Mrs. Robert Hart, Mrs. Raymond Smith, Mrs. Rawles Moore, Miss Elizabeth Mc Galli ard and Mrs. Charles Lemery. More than 100 guests called during the afternoon.
