Halsey Bout Recognized The five-round boxing match between Wes Echols, national amateur middleweight champion and Bull Halsey, Portland, will be recognized by the Oregon as sociation, AAU, as a fight for the national title, Larry Bur- dctte. matchmaker for the South ern Oregon Boxing club, said he was advised today. Burdette said he received sanc tion for the title fight from Ed Potter, chairman of the Oregon AAU. Injuries forced several changes in supporting bouts, the match maker said. The semi-windup will send Kenny Carothers of Grants Pass, southern Oregon welterweight champion, against Clopper Clink, Portland, in four-round affair. Ingram Stainback of Ha waii would be invited to attend dedicntion ceremonies at the school's new stadium when the Bearcats host the University of Hawaii in an October 14 foot ball game. Meanwhile, the cltv buildine Inspector's office said today a permit nan Been Issued for a $132,832 plant to be known as Mcculloch stadium. The university said the plant would seat 3,700 at first, with eventual capneity reaching 7.000 at a cost of more than $202,000. of the national championship matches in Boston last year. Rogues Get 2 Pitchers Medford Rogues acquired two new pitchers today who will re port to the local club at Pitts burg, Cal., where Medford opens against the Diamonds in a rn West league series Friday night, Business Manager Mel Carpenter said today The new hurlcrs are John Gruell, a righthander who has been sent to the Rogues by the New York Giants with whom Medford has a working agree ment this season, and Bill Fran cis, a portsider, who has been with Riverside, Cal., of the Sun set league. Gruell is scheduled to grad uate from Ventura Junior col lege this week, while Francis has been used mostly in relief roles with the Riverside club. Dick Bartle Raps Out One Hit in Four Trips Dick Bartle, former Medford Nuggets first baseman, made one single in four trips to the Dlate. as the Salem Senators, for whom he holds down the first sack this season, dropped a 7 to 2 decision to Vancouver, B. c. Clark Leads At Pendleton Pendleton, Ore., June 14 U.R) Ron Clark of The Dalles was leading the field as the $1,500 Pendleton open golf tour nament went into the third round today. Clark, Oregon amateur cham pion, posted a 65 yesterday for a 36-hole total of 139. Clark took the lead from Al Mengert of Spokane, Wash., who faltered on the fourth nine to take a 74. This gave Mengert a total of 142 and shoved him into fhird place. Sid Harman, Walla Walla, Wash., professional, was runner- up to Clark with a 141. Al Zlra merman, Portland pro, wa fourth with 143.
