Added to the list of brides-to-be ia Miss Margery Johnson, whose parents, Mr. and Mrs. T. J. Johnson, 1478 Morrow rond, last week announced her en gagement to Clifton Hughes, son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas 13ray, Eagle Point. The wedding has been set for July 1 and will be in Wesley chapel of First Methodist church, with reception following. Miss Johnson is a member of the 1950 graduating class of Med ford high school. Mr. and Mrs. Frank William ion of Rogue River announce the engagement of their daughter, Marilyn Anne, to Roscoe Hargltt of Oakland, Cal. Mr. Harxitt is a on of Mr. and Mrs. R. W. Har gltt, also of Rogue River. No date has been set for the wedding. I i Pupils Presented In Piano Recital . Mr. Frances Schuchard pre sented her younger students of piano In a recital recently. At- i lending were parents and fricmls. j The recital was given in the home of Mrs. George Schuler, Valley View drive. Among the students, manv of whom played for the first time in public, were Marv Ellen Towne. Frankle Schuchard and Susan Schuler, all five vears old. Others who appeared on the program were Douglas Atkins, Susan Baker, Jackie Creator, Carol Hussong. Mary Elizabeth Pierce, George Schuler, Lou Elsn Vocgtly, Keith Harrison, Jimmle Emniens and Jane Edgerlon. Melissn and Nanev Jennings augmented the program with ap propriate vocal duets, and Nancy sang a solo. Refreshments were served at the clote of the program. Student to Make Tour of Europe Donnld M. Staley, sixteen year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas G. Staley, and a Med ford senior high school student, left Friday night enroute to New York City where he will loin other students to make a tour of Europe. The t ra v e 1 e r will visit for a few days in New York before boardine the Enelish ship. Strathedcn, for the voyage.1 He will tour France. Italv. Switzerland. Austria. Germany. Belgium, Holland, and Great Britain. The student expects to return to Medford in September. Mrs. Mike Popaw was elected vice-president, Mrs. Cecil Norris secretary and Mrs. Fred Hall gren treasurer. Next meeting of the group will he held June 15 in the home of Mrs. Frank Fairweather with Mrs. Cornelia Barnes and Mrs. Charles Coffin assisting. They will also visit Mrs. Bessie Quinton and Howard of Grants Pass and other relatives. The visitors plan to remain three or four weeks. Convention Visitors To Throng Medford; Manv Events Planned Medford will be filled with visitors this week attending the annual state convention of Lions and the auxiliary, with more than 1000 expected. First event of the convention is a western barbecue today at 7:30 p.m. at the high school foot ball field and for both men and women delegates, and Monday's schedule for auxiliary members includes a breakfast at the Jack son hotel at 8 a.m. and a lunch eon and style show at the Rogue Valley Country club at noon. The governor's banquet and ball is set for Monday night in the Junior high school gymnasium. Auxiliary business meetings are to be held at 9 a.m. both Monday and Tuesday In the Cra terian theater with Mrs. Ruben Kuratli of Hillsboro, state presi dent, presiding. Mrs. Kuratli is expected to report on her main project for the year, which has been raising funds for a clinic for the blind in Portland. A number of new auxiliaries have been chartered during her term, and two of these, the new Crater club auxiliary in Med ford and the Prospect auxiliary, will receive charters during the convention. Assisting the Medford and Crater auxiliaries with the con vention plans are the Lady Lions in Central Point, Gold Hill, Phoenix, Talent. Rogue River and Prospect. Mrs. Lee Mellish of the Medford auxiliary is con vention committee chairman. Nordwkks in Arizona For Son's Graduation; Mrs. Bush Returns Home Mr. and Mrs. Harry F. Nord- wick, 919 Reddy avenue, re turned home last week from a trip to Arizona, Mexico and Cal- nornia. Ihev were accompanied home by Mrs. Olga Bush of Med ford who spent the winter and spring in Tucson. Ariz., with relatives, and the Nordwick s son, Harry Allen N'ordwick, who has been attending the Univer sity of Arizona at Tucson. Young Nordwick was a mem ber of the 1950 graduating class, taking a degree in public admin istration, and the Nordwicks at tended the commencement cere monies. He will spend the sum mer In Medford, and return to Arizona in the fall. While away the Nordwicks spent some time with Mr. and Mrs. William Holloway, Tempe, Ariz., former Medford residents, and with Mr. and Mrs. C. C. Darby, who formerly lived in this city and now make their home in Fresno, Cal. Mrs. Bush is at her apartment in the Holly apartment house and expects to remain In the city indeiimieiy. University Graduate Mr. and Mrs. Horace Thomp son. 3642 Hilsinger road, near Phoenix, left yesterday to attend commencement exercises today t the University of Oregon. Eu gene. The Thompson's daughter, LiizaDetn inompson, is a mem ber of the graduating class. A member of Delta Zeta sorority, Miss Thompson majored in psy chology. MAIN Next to Central Drug Reception Given For New Conductor Rebekah Assembly Jacksonville Mrs. Warren Hazen, who had recently been installed as conductor in the state assembly of Rebehak lodges in Astoria, was honored at a re ception during a regular meeting of the Ruth Rebekah lodge in the Jacksonville IOOF hall Mon day evening. Mrs. Hazen was presented a corsage. Special party favors were used at the refreshment table which had been arranged by the committee, Mrs. Lee Greena mever. Mrs. Job Berriman and Mrs. Irwin Boyd. Mrs. Hugh McCoIlie gave a comic reading. Reports of the state assembly were given by the delegates, Mrs. Charles Hawkins and Mrs. Job Berriman. Mrs. Hazen also attended the assembly. Mrs. Rachel Shafer was a visit or at the meeting from Eureka. Cal. Following the meeting, Mrs. Blanch Ravenor left by bus for Wheeler, Ore., for medical treat ment. Portland Family Here For School Graduation Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Larson, 726 Welch street, have as guests Mrs. Larson's brother-in-law and sis ter, Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Johns. Mrs. Larson's parents. Mr. and Mrs. E. C. Vanderhoof, and her brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. James Vanderhoof, and their children, Janice, Roy and Susan, all of Portland. Mr. and Mrs. Johns came down to attend baccalaureate services last Sunday, and the re mainder of the visitors arrived in time for commencement Thursday night. The Larson's son, Wayne, was a member of the graduating class. Miss Jean Martin, Richard Melhase Married in Nevada Mr. and Mra. Richard V. Mel hose, newlyweds, are making their home at 542 North Bart lett street after their wedding May 21 Reno, Nev. Judge A. J. Maestretti performed the ceremony. The bride Is the former Jean Martin, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Walter I. Martin, Seaside, and the bridegroom is a son of Mr. and Mrs. William H. Melhase, Klamath Falls. For the ceremony the bride wore a pale pink two.piece dress with navy blue accessories. She was attended by Miss Grace Wil liams of Ashland and Don Chap man of Medford was best man for Mr. Melhase. Both Mr. and Mrs. Melhase attended Oregon State college. Jacksonville Women Leave for New Jersey To Attend Convention Jacksonville Mrs. Otto Nied ermeyer, president of the South west Oregon Presbyterial, ac companied by Mrs. Ray Martin, treasurer of the group, left Tues day night by plane for Ocean Grove, N. J., to attend the an nual national Presbyterial con vention. Mrs. Niedermeyer attended the convention as a delegate for the southwest Oregon group, repre senting the women's church or ganization from throughout the district including Klamath Falls, Coos Bay, and Medford. The travelers first went to Portland where they joined oth er delegates to make the trip to New Jersey by a limited plane. They were to arrive in Ocean Grove Wednesday evening. Delegates from foreign coun tries also were to attend the meeting, including representa tives from Africa. Reames Past Matrons Elect Year's Officers Mrs. Vernon A. Turpin was elected president of Past Ma trons of Reames chapter, Or der of Eastern Star, at a meet ing of the group Monday. Mrs. Ira Canfield was hostess to the members at her country home. A covered dish luncheon was served. Mrs. S a n f i e 1 d was elected vice-president and Mrs. Ralph Woodford, secretary-treasurer. Mrs. Orrie Stoddard assisted the hostess in serving. This is the final meeting of the season for the women. Club activities will be resumed in October. Craw fords in Eugene To Attend Graduation Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Crawford, 512 South Holly street, with their daughter. Miss Kaye Craw ford, are spending the week-end in Eugene to attend commence ment ceremonies of the Univer sity of Oregon today. The Craw ford's son. Jack, is a member of the class and will receive a de gree in certified public account ing. He will return to Medford with his parents.
