Phoenix Aid Society Plans Annual Event Wednesday at Church Phoenix Members of the La dies' Aid society of Phoenix Pres byterian church have planned the annual birthday tea for Wed nesday at the church. The event is set for 2 p. m. and a program has been planned. This yearly event of the so ciety always attracts a large number of women of the com munity who find the tea an op portunity to meet newcomers in the town as well as to greet friends. All women of the community are invited to attend. Wrights Attend Party Held in Myrtle Creek Mr. and Mrs. H. W. Wright and daughter, Dorothy, 113 Mis tletoe avenue, and Mrs. Hugh Huntley and daughter, Carol, at tended the silver wedding anni versary celebration of the Rev. A. R. Rutledge and Mrs. Rut ledge held June 6 in Myrtle Creek, Ore. The anniversary party was given by Miss Ruth and Miss Evelyn Rutledge, daughters of the couple. A farewell party was also held for the couple that evening, and the Medford group remained to attend the second event. Paintings Displayed By Ashland Artist Ashland An exhibit of some 30 water colors and oils painted by R. M. DeMille, are on dis play this week in the Rainbow room of the Lithia hotel. Mr. DeMille, who is a retired Ash land sign painter, has painted pictures as a hobby for many years. Principally the works are of western subjects and scenes. It has been said that his paint ings compare to the famous cow boy artist, Charles M. Russell, from the Great Falls, Mont, area. Also on display are about 20 oil paintings done by Carl M. Thorp, a west coast artist. At Coast Mrs. Michael Beck, Old Stage road, accompanied by her daugh ter. Miss D'Anne Beck, Miss Jean Dean and Miss Barbara Green, will return today from Creseent City where they spent the week-end at the Beck cabin. Miss Donna Smith To Reign as Queen Of Catfish Derby Miss Donna Smith will reign over the 14th annual Catfish Derby of Medford 20-30 club June 18, the junior high school miss having been selected by boys of the school. She is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Doug las Ray Smith. 109 Highland drive. Four classmates. Miss Wanda Dixon, Miss Tresa Barr. Miss Bonnie Pruitt and Miss Frances Frazier. will make up the queen's court. Miss Dixon is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Percy Johnson, 1508H Prune street; M'ss Barr's parents are Mr. and Mvs. George C. Barr, 851 West i4th street. Miss Pruitt is a daughter of the C. W. Pruitts, route 1, and Miss Frazier's parents are Mr. and Mrs. Ed Frazier, 516 Pennsylva nia aveniue. The annual derby will be held as usual at TouVelle park, and all manner of entertainment. suims ana contests are being planned. Bill Davies is general chairman of this year's derbv which is expected to attract the usual inrong of valley folk. Annual Picnic Planned For St. Mark's Group Mrs. R. W. Theme of the evening was 'Vision," and the Rev. Holly Jarvis acted as toastmaster. Mrs. Grover Corum gave the wel come and response was given by Miss Claudia Cooper. Junior and seniors attending were Beth Gates, Maxine My ers, Audrey Putman, Bill Hust, Sally Cooney, Claudia Cooper, Roila Jones. Shirley Rice, De Lores Smylie. Gayleneen Schroeder, and Robert Hersh- iser. Other guests included Miss Maureen Rice, who played a violin solo; accompanied by Miss Verene Bailey; Miss Loma Mae Jones and E. C. Deiwert. Women of the Moose Hold Annual Election; Mrs. Elridge Regent Mrs. Claire Elridge was elect ed senior regent of the Women of the Moose at a meeting of the lodge June 5.
