Gold Hill Wins Third Straight Co And Rogue Ashland, May 6 Gold Hill high trackmen won their third county class B high school cham pionship here Saturday after noon by rolling up 142 points. Rogue River was second with 104, Talent had 68, Jacksonville 61, Phoenix 50 and St. Mary's had four. The Gold Hill crew by virtue of this victory and others this year will be highly favored to win the district track meet to be held at the Ashland high field next week. Coming out of nowhere in the drive down the last, long piece of horse highway to the pay off window in America's most glamorous gallop, the son of the 1936 Derby winner Bold Ven ture gave the King ranch its third rose run triumph when he finished a length and a half ahead of Virginia's highly-touted Hill Prince. C. V. Whitney's Mr. Trouble was third, as Your Host, the California comet who went off the favorite in the field of 14 faded badly after setting the pace most of the way. Ducks Upset Husky Thins Eugene, Ore., May 6 (U.R) The University of Oregon's star studded track team remained undefeated today, taking a 73 58 win from previously unbeat en Washington. Only one record was set on the track, slowed by a week's rain and a 10-mile headwind at the straightaway. Oregon's George Kasmussen cleared 14 feet, 1 inch, to break the mark of 14 feet. Set by George Varoff of Oregon in 1938. Two upsets marked the meet. Pete Mundie of Oregon outran Washington's George Abbey in the two-mile and Dave Kolden upset Bill Olson in the high jump. SOC Baseball Twin Bill Cancelled, Wet Grounds Ashland, May 6 Saturday's baseball doubleheader between Southern Oregon college and San Francisco State college was called off because of wet grounds, Coach Ted Schopf said. It was to have marked the final appearance of the 1950 Raiders at the local park. Sunday the SOC nine will play an exhibition game with the Cheney Studs team at (Jen tral Point at 2:30 p.m. Ducks Unlimited Given $5,000 by Oregonians Oregon sportsmen contributed more than $5,000 to Ducks Un limited last year, Alfred H. Schmidt, state chairman of Port land, reported Saturday in a re lease to newspapers. The same $5,000 quota has been set for Oregon this year. Restorations of Canadian wa terfowl breeding areas will pro ceed at top speed as result of appropriations approved by trus tees of Ducks Unlimited, Schmidt said. Cheney Studs Vs. SOC At C P. Stud Manager Hoosier Hof fard said his team will be out to set the college nine down to avenge an earlier defeat this season. At that time the Studs were not in top shape in either the fielding or batting depart ment, Hoffard said. A new infielder, Howard Mc Donald, has been signed by the Studs and will make his first ap pearance before the home fans Sunday. McDonald is an experi enced ball player, having played four years at Pacific university where he graduated last spring. Chez Winning Pitcher As Stanford Tops Cal Joe Chez, former Medford high and semi-pro hurler. was given credit for the victory when when Stanford university edged California 7 to 6 Saturday afternoon. Chez relieved the starting pitcher in the fourth in ning and gave up but three hits and a single tally. California was ahead 5 to 2 when Chez took over the duties but his teammates came up with five runs to help him out. This was Chez's fifth C1BA win against no losses and was the first time Stanford had swept a three game series with Cal in one year.
