C, May 2 (U.R) Provincial police today laid plans to transport 41 convicted Sons of Freedom Doukhobors from the crowded Nelson jail to British Columbia's Oakalla prison. Police said the Slabodniks, convicted of nudism and arson, would be moved to the prison "within two days" bv train. Ten female members of the radical Doukhnbor sect were sentenced to 2'i years each when they appeared Thursday at Trail, B.C. The other 31 were given three year, jail terms Friday and rock ed the staid Nelson court by staging a strip before embarras sed officers could stop them from pulling the "rip cords" on their loose clothing. A total of 141 arrests have been made since April 14. Po lice said more arrests were in the offing as soon as more room was available in the jail, built to hold only SO inmates at one time. President Ready for Cross-Country Trip Washington, May Z (B.R) President Truman takes un next week where he left off in 1948, speeding across the continent in one-night stands with praise for his administration and brickbats for the opposition. The president leaves Sunday afternoon on what he calls a "non-political" tour. That meant no invective against the repub licans on Sunday. Highway Costs Drop States Tell Survey Chicago (U.R) The American Public Works association reports that the cost of highway con struction and maintenance ap pears to be leveling off. The association, citing a study by a committee report, said al most all states reported lower road construction bids for 1949 than in 1948. Most states found competition for highway work is increasing, due partly to greater availability of materials, supplies, equipment and labor. The cost of correcting exist ing highway shortcomings throughout the nation was placed at $41,144,630,000.
