Washington, May Z (B.R)
President Truman takes un next

He delivers eight major

The president's big political

Highway Costs Drop
States Tell Survey
Chicago (U.R) The American
Public Works association reports
that the cost of highway con
struction and maintenance ap
pears to be leveling off.
The association, citing a study
by a committee report, said al
most all states reported lower
road construction bids for 1949
than in 1948.
Most states found competition
for highway work is increasing,
due partly to greater availability
of materials, supplies, equipment
and labor.
The cost of correcting exist

throughout the nation was
placed at $41,144,630,000.
