f FOUR MEDFORD (OREGON) MAIL TRIBUNE Tuesday, April 25. I9S0 (wmtf Wage Rehearsal Supper Given Friday Night; Rites Are Saturday Mr. and Mrs. Roland Smith and Mr. and Mrs. James W. Grigsby were hosts last Friday night for a rehearsal supper for the Smith's daughter. Miss Jeanne Smith, and her fiance, Clifford Henderson, The Dalles. Miss Smith's wedding to Mr. Henderson took place Saturday evening at Zion Lutheran church. The supper was held at the Grigsby's home in Jacksonville. The bride-elect was honored at a number of parties before her wedding. One of these was given by nurses and staff members of Sacred Heart hospital, where Miss Smith has been a surgical nurse, the event being a miscel laneous shower. The AAUW study group to which Miss Smith belongs honor ed her with a handkerchief ihowcr at a recent meeting. Sydney, Australia, has an an nual average rainfall of 46.3 inches. The club will meet tonight at the Medford hotel at 7:30 p.m. for the usual weekly game. Garden Club First n Table Contest; Lady Lions Second Medford Garden club was winner of the table setting con tost sponsored last week by Bro- phy's store and the Holmes and Edwards company, me swie u nnnnccd vesterdav. The contest was decided by popular vote. Lady Lions' entry won second place, the chapter AA. FEO, en try was inira, rnwanian imra fourth and Junior Service league fifth. First prize was a chest of silver and each entry was award ed a prize. The winning table was set for a dinner for six, with the table laid with a Chinese hand-drawn natural color tablecloth The sil ver used was Spring Garden, and the china was Bavarian in a white with pink rose border. For the centerpiece Mrs. J. W. Jacobs arranged pink pinocchio roses, which are miniatures, and blue forget-me-nots, in a silver bowl edged with a rose design. Pink candles were in three branched pewter candelabra, and goblets were of crystal. Corsages or boutonnleres of the miniature roses were at each place and place cards were of the pink rose design. The china and candelabra were the property of Mrs. Roland Beach, who aided Mrs. Jacobs and Mrs. A. C. Leighton, presi dent of the club, In arranging the table. The Kiwanlan Dames' commit tee, composed of Mrs. I. E. Sta ples, Mrs. E. Ronald Rice and Mrs. Eueenc Orr, chose a mod ern arrangement, using the bare table laid with embroidered lin en place mats. The silver used was Danish Princess and the rhina. which belonged to Mrs. Staples, was English with a flor al border of pink and blue in a deep shade. Even more modern in thought was the table which a committee from Lady Lions club arranged. The tablecloth was of tomato red with white fringe and the china was white Haviland with no dec oration other than an edging de siEn. The silver was Spring Gar den. M. Morris, 204 Medford heights, for luncheon and a musi cal program featuring American artists. A buffet salad luncheon was served, with Mrs. D. O. Hood and Mrs. Ray K. Bailey pour ing at the table which held a centerpiece of spring flowers. Mrs. H. E. Marsh Introduced the program. A group of num bers was played by the Medford senior high school string quar tet composed of Misses Joyce Montgomery, Maureen Rice, Ro bene Starcher and Margaret Hu son. Their number! were "Andante" by Diltorsdorf; "Piz zicato Caprice" by Floyd Barn ard and "Romany Life" by Vic tor Herbert. Miss Huson also played a piano solo, "Rustle of Spring." Mrs. Lulu Saulsberry gave two readings, "The Clinic'' by Alice Regan Rice and a satire on "mother's back seat driving" by Edgar Guest. Mrs. Catherine Wcndt then entertained the chapter with vocal selections including "Pale Moon," "I Look Into Your Gar den" and Awake, Beloved." Guests of the society were Mrs. U. G. Holderman and Miss Bertha Holderman of Santa Ana, Cal., nieces of Mrs. Carrie Young. Assisting the hostess were Mesdames Frances Cockran, A. H. Hansen and C. B. Pankey. Shower Party Given By Hostess in Talent Wagner Creek Mrs. Yarnell of Talent recently gave a show er in honor of her daughter-in-law, Mrs. Ruby Yarnell. Many from Wagner Creek attended, including Mrs. Mildred Bailey and daughters, Joyce, Laura and Nora; Erma Hoffman, Mrs. Edna Hopper and Betty, Mrs. Delbert Johnson, Mrs. Russcl Clark, Mrs. L a y t o n MacDowell, Beverly Hild, Mrs. Wilma Arnett, Mrs. Mary Higgins, Talent; Mrs. Acre, Central Point, and Mrs. Yarnell Sr., daughter Margie and grand daughter Sandra. Games were played, songs and music were enjoyed and the hostess served refreshments. Women's Group Meets In Gold Hill Friday Gold Hill A group of friends gathered at the home of Mrs. James Clement, Friday, for the monthly potluck lunceon, fol lowed by an afternoon of needle work.
