Name Queen Contestants For Phoenix May Festival Phoenix Candidates for queen of the annual Phoenix May Festival have been announced, and a queen's ball will be held Saturday. April 29 at the grade school gymnasium to open the contest which will select a queen to reign over the two-day event. The contestants are Miss Wan da Norton, sponsored by the Phoenix Parent-Teacher associa tion; Miss Rosalie Klasson, Phoe nix Grange contestant: Miss Vir ginia Roberts, Phoenix Garden club: Miss Sally Tripp, Phoenix Thimble club; Miss Barbara Bar low, Youth club; Miss Shirley Dudley, Phoenix Thursday club. The queen committee of the Phoenix Community club and Youth center consists of Mrs. Charles Hockersmith, chairman, Mrs. Bert Stancliffe, Mrs. Delno Sloan, Mrs. Herb Good, Mrs. L. O. Anderson, Mrs. Marvin Fish er, Mrs. Leonard Halfhill and Mrs. David Lowery. Dance admission tickets will entitle the holders to vote for the queen of their choice during the dance, and later containers will be placed in down town stores to receive votes up until May 13. The v.inner will be crowned queer., and the remaining con testants will be princesses for the festival. Mrs. Fischer, Girl scout leader, states that scouts will have an ice cream and cold drink conces sion at the dance. Losing Contest Teams Give Dinner Friday In Odd Fellow Hail Gold Hill The Odd Fellow and Rebekah losing teams in the recent membership contest held the "payoff" dinner Friday night at the lodge hall. Mrs. Lester Parker and Bill Ferguson were captains of the losing sides and these two, with their commit tees, prepared a chicken and noodle supper for about 100 per sons. The menu for the winners was written on special cards and con sisted of such "rare" dishes as scrambled catfish eyes and broiled skunk livers. Mrs. Mel ford Hood and Bill Hittle were captains of the winning teams. Following dinner a skit was presented in the auditorium and Sonny Hendrickson and his son, Jack, and Mr. Musty played for dancing. John Gray called for the square dances. Secretaries' Group Will Be Installed Thursday At Hotel A southern Oregon chapter of the National Secretaries' associa tion will be installed at a meet ing set for Thursday at 8 p. m. in room 2 off the mezzanine floor of the Medford hotel. Des sert will be served. Mrs. Evelyn Schroeder, secre tary to Glenn L. Jackson, vice president of the California Ore gon Power company, will serve as president of the new group. The association is a professional, non-profit, non-union organiza tion. Mrs. Jean H. Williams, na tional organizer, states that the membership is still open and any wuiimu engaged in secretarial work interested in becoming a member may contact her at the Medford hotel. Work-a-WayTub Meets on Thursday Members of the Work-a-Way club met Thursday at the home of Mrs. Othar Richey, 1708 West Main street. Games followed the business meeting, with prizes awarded, and a birthday gift was presented to Mrs. Glenn Bowles. Mrs. Murry Orgain was a vis itor. Mrs. Richey was hostess to the club members again Friday morning for a "come as you are" get-together. Next meeting of the group is Canton and Auxiliary Make Convention Plans Plans for attending the state convention were made at a meet ing of Canton Siskiyou, Patri archs Militant, and the auxiliary held last Friday night at the lOOF hall. The meetings follow ed a covered dish dinner. The convention will be held in Astoria, Ore., beginning Sun day. May 14. Business sessions are set for May 15, with a ban quet in the evening and follow ing the banquet the degree of chivalry will be conferred on a large class. Mrs. Claude Cooper and Mrs. Carrie Milnes were elected dele gates to the convention and others planning to attend are Mr. and Mrs. Ed Pease, Mrs. O. S. Waldcn, president of the local auxiliary, Mrs. Lewis Thompson, Mrs. A. H. Hansen, Mr. and Mrs. Lvnn Cram, Mrs. H. D. Turner and Mrs. Edna McCoy. The lat ter two will receive the degree. Patriotic drills were practiced under Capt. W. H. Dyer. Mrs. Fred Daugherty, Mrs. Lilly Demmer and Mrs. Grace Bromlee served the covered dish supper. Table decorations were of flowers and potted plants. Next meeting will be May 5 with "mustering in" of candi dates to follow a covered dish dinner. to be May 4 at the home of Mrs. Roy Heath, 207 Columbus ave- Phoenix Extension Unit Elects Year's Officers Phoenix "Broiled Dinners" was the subject studied at the meeting of the Phoenix Home Extension unit held April 21 at the home of Mrs. Andrew Ste vens. Twenty members were present. Phoject leaders were Mrs. Jewell Parr and Mrs. Reuben Richey. New officers elected were Mrs. W. M. Caldwell, chairman; Mrs. Bill Howard, vice chairman: Mrs. H. C. Sloper. secretary and treasurer; Mrs. George Smith, li brarian. Mrs. Douglass and Mrs. Quack enbush of Howard Extension unit talked about the homemakcr's camp and Mrs. Edith Poe spoke on cancer. Six members of the circle plan to attend the Rogue zone meet ing in Ashland April 28.
