r 3 If II1.1MII1M I IIMIII I1MHIISI III I III II DANISH GYMNASTS SLATED Here are four of the 16 young women who will take part in the program of rhythmical gymnastics, balance, folk dances, acrobatics, apparatus work and tumbling in the senior high gymnasium Tuesday, April 11, at 8 p.m. Sixteen young men in the famous Danish Gymnastics team will also perform. Famous Gymnasts Here on Tuesday "A two-hour demonstration of grace, suppleness and balance" will be presented Tuesday eve ning( April 11, in the senior high gymnasium when the famous Danish Gymnasts team appears L in Medford, Athletics Director , Lee Ragsdale said. Proceeds from the show after expenses will go toward the high school athletic fund. The show will start at 8 p. m. Sixteen young women and as many young men will take part in the exhibition of rhythmical and fundamental gymnastics, balancing, folk dances, acrobat ics, apparatus and tumbling. Olympic Champs Medford will be but one of several hundred cities in Canada and the United States in which the Danish young men and wom en will show their abilities this year. Two of them are 1940 Olympic champions and all were selected last summer on the ba sis of competitive trials. Tumbling, for instance, resem bles a new form of attempted suicide, or so it appeared to a New York Times writer who viewed the show last fall, said in his news article. One phase of the demonstra tion consists of the men in the group to throw the young wom en across the floor at one anoth er. This is done with such vigor that even jitterbug dancers be come astounded at the act. The men vary in age from 18 to 30 and the women are about in the same age range. Gasps and often cheers are brought from the crowds that watch these Danish athletes per form. The men using the appara tus and doing the tumbling throw themselves at and over bucks, walk on their hands as though in a military drill and all with much grace. The dances the men and wom en perform seem to be vigorous versions of a cross between the minuet .square dance and polka. Calisthenics are used as "warm ing up" exercises for tumbling and apparatus work. The demonstration Tuesday night will be one of the few times such a group has perform ed in Medford. WEATHER By United Press Northern California: Mostly fair Sunday except partly cloudy with a few showers during the day from ing City and Fresno south.
