Plan Social Events For State Meeting Of York Rite Bodies Many social events are being planned in connection with the grand session of York Rite bodies being held in Medford beginning tonight. Several hun dred delegates and their wives are to be here lor the session. A banquet and ball, in honor of the commanoery of linignts Tcmnlar. will be held in the Medford Masonic temple Mon day night and Tuesday a tour of the valley has been planned for women who are guests in the city in connection with the con vention. The tour will be fol lowed by a tea in the home of Mrs. J. H. Tardy. Grants Pass, Medford women are invited to make the tour and attend the tea, and are to make reserva tions with Mrs, John Pond, tele phone 3-1930, or Mrs. Elton W a 1 d r 0 n, 2-2824. Mrs. V. A. Turnin. whose husband is com mander of the local group, is tea chairman. Monday afternoon a card party will be held in the Jackson hotel. Mrs. M. P. Dunn of Ashland Is chairman for this event. Wednesday the visitors will be in Ashland to visit the tuzaoein- an theater and to have luncheon in that city and Thursday morn- inn a brunch will be held at the Rogue Valley Country club at 10 a.m. This is for the visitors onlv. Valley Women Golfers To Be luncheon Guests i Of Grants Pass Group Women golfers of the Grants Pats Country club have invited members of the Rogue Valley women's golf association to at tend a luncheon and style show Wednesday, April 26 at 1 p.m. The date was previously an nounced for April 27. The show will be of the latest hnir styles. Members of the local organi zation planning to attend arc asked to make their reservations with Mrs. Robert Shepherd at once since the number is lim ited. Mrs. Mel Slarnes, formerly of Medford and now of Grants Pass, is president of the Grants Pass women's group. Wednesday Study Club Hostess for Guests; Readings, Songs Given Annual guest day of the Wed nesday Study club was observed Wednesday at the Girls' Com munity club rooms. Members answered roll call with quotations and introduced their guests. The president, Mrs. F. J. Newman, extended a cor dial welcome. Mrs. Newman gave nn outline of the piirpu.se of the club and its origin and intro duced Mrs. F. K. Deuel as a charter member of the group. The program for the afternoon was In charge of Mrs. A, C. Leighton. The first number on the program was a group of songs by Mrs. (.'. R. Adnmsmi. soprano, accompanied by Mrs. Ernest Conrad. Mrs. Ailanison sang "The Ilagplpe Man," by Howard McKinney; "Take Joy Home," by Carolyn Wells Bns sett, and "Beauty," her own com position. Mrs. Ruby Rusquc gave a group of readings about the west, "Mac," by Mary Caroline Davies; "The Lost Pardner," from the book "Sun and Saddle Leather," by Badger Clark, and "Long Tom Thoniason," which was written by herself. The rooms were decorated with daffodils and spirea, and refreshments were served from an attractively appointed tea ta ble. Mrs. Deuel and Mrs. F. J. Newman poured. The good times committee, headed by Mrs. Ruby Rusquc, assisted by Mrs. W. L. Walden, Mrs. Dan Hull, Mrs. A. C. Leigh ton, Mrs. Deuel and Mrs. G. A. Diersdorff, was in charge of the entertainment. Plumley, the bridegroom's parents are Mr. Newlywed Couple Honored At Party In Central Point Mr. and Mrs. Jim Anders, 941 Dakota street, whose marriage was an event of March 18, was honored Sunday, April 2 at a wedding shower given In the home of the bridegroom's par ent s, Mr. and Mrs. Ray An ders of Central Point. The bride is the former Betty Jane Kono pasek, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Konapasek, 624 Victory street. Aunts of the bridgogroom, Mrs. Harley Dressier and Mrs. Victor Noel, were hostesses for the affair. Movies were shown, and re freshments were served from a table covered with satin-striped cloth and centered with an ar rangement of daffodils and yel low tapers. The newly married couple were wed in the First Methodist church in Reno. Nev. The Rev. Edward Mills officiated. The bride wore a royal blue suit wilh white accessories. She is a graduate of the Med ford high school class of 1949 and is employed by Bear Creek orchards. Mr. Anders served in the armed forces in Korea. He has attended Southern Oregon col lege and Oregon State college. Duplicate Club Reports Master Point Winners Medford Duplicate Bridge club members played for master points last week, with Mrs. T. J. Fuson and Col. G. R. Owens holding top score for the north and .south playing positions and mis. Honiara Hughes and Will iam Isaars high in the cast and west positions. I ho north-south team scored (if) points, and the east-west team lOU'i points. Other north-south winners were Mrs. W. W. Stevenson and Mrs. Owens, second with 901? points, and Bill Kennedy of Gold Hill and l'ete Boyden, 96 points. second for east and west were Miss Isnhrl Stuart and Jack Hair, with 98' a points and third went to Mrs. A. Plum lev. 906 North Central avenue and the bridegroom's parents are Mr. and Mrs. Radford Chriss, 15 Mace road. Given in marriage by her fa ther, the bride wore a mauve colored suit with navy blue ac cessories for the ceremony. Her cascade bouquet was of violets and bouvardia, with a corsage of the same flowers. Mrs. Douglas Plumley, sister- in-law of the bride, was her at tendant. She wore a suit of aqua marine color with cocoa brown accessories and her flowers were vellow rosebuds. Douglas Plumley, brother of the bride, was best man for the bridegroom and ushers were Lee Graham and Homer auuivau. Daffodils and forsythia were used for the floral setting for the wedding and for the reception which followed in the church parlor. Mrs. Obert Hanson and Mrs. Harry Marsh took charge of the reeention. and Miss Betty t ommnn cut the wedding cake. Plan First Meeting Of Ladies' Troop In New Club Room Members of the Ladies' Mount ed Troop, auxiliary to the Jack son County Mounted Sheriff's Posse, will meet in the troop's new club room at the Posse grounds on Sage road, Tuesday, April 11 at 8 p.m. This will be the first meeting of the organiza tion in the new quarters. itlees which have been appointed will be announced and business of the evening will con cern club room furnishings and the coming drill season. Family To Join Corporal In South Mrs. Gilbert Peterson and son, Kenneth, left for the Panama Canal zone this week where they will join Corporal Peterson. Mrs. Peterson is the former Nedra Sehulz and is the daughter of Mrs. Ruby Nelson of Beagle, Ore., and Adolph Sehulz of Med ford. She has been employed here by a local hospital as a surgical nurse. Corporal Peterson Is attached to the U. S. army in the Canal zone. Mrs. Peterson's father, Adolph Sehulz, accompanied the travel ers to San Francisco, where he spent several days before return ing here. County Teachers Annual Luncheon Set For Saturday The annual spring luncheon for teachers of Jackson county nas been set for Saturday, April 15. at the Rogue Valley Country club at 12:30 p. m. The luncheon sponsored by the Jackson county division of the Oregon Education association and is open to all teachers. Speaker for the event will be Richard Barss. Portland, editor of the Oregon Journal, magazine for Oregon teachers. Music will be provided by Bernard Windt, cellist, with Mrs. Windt as ac companist. Also on the program will be Elton Fishback, Klamath Falls, representative from Oregon for the National Education associa tion convention. Mrs. Mabel Winston, registrar of Southern Oregon college, who was in stalled vice-president of OEA at tne meeting last week, will be a guest. Mrs. Marguerite Black heads the committee on arrangements, with Mrs. Maude Robinson and Mrs. Maxine Smith assisting, and me Classroom teachers associa tion will take charge of decora tions for the luncheon. Tickets will be on sale at all school buildings of the county, the committee announces. Former Residents Here As Guests of Friends; Honored With Parties Visitors in the city last week were Mr. and Mrs. David Yale and children, Barry, Ted and Anne, of Santa Monica, Cal. They were guests in the Frank Farrell home. The Yales lived in Med ford for several years and were later in Quito, Ecuador, and other South American cities be fore returning to this country to live. Wednesday noon Mrs. Yale was honored at a luncheon at Mon Desir for which Mrs. Floyd Hart was hostess. Mrs. Hart in viting members of the Contempo rary Book club, to which Mrs. Yale belonged when she lived here. Later the group went to Mrs. Hart's home for the clubs usual meeting. That evening Mrs. Robert Hart was hostess for a cocktail party in honor of the Yales, entertain ing at her home, 22 Glenn Oak court. CarS Lawrence dla- vfl Held at Christian Church Medford's First Christian church was the scene Saturday, April 1, of the wedding of Miss Tresa McMannis, daughter of Mrs. Margaret McMannis, 221 North Holly street, to Ralph J. Mat lack. The bridegroom is a son of Mrs. Luella J. Matlack, East Mc Andrews road. The couple repeated the mar riage vows betore ine nev Hollv Rov Jarvis in a floral set ting of white stock and palms. More than 200 guests were pres ent for the service, read at eight o'clock in the evening. Preceding the service, Rich armd D. Werner, violinist, and Bruno Pellegrini, organist, play ed and soloist for the wedding was Mrs. Werner. The bride's wedding dress of nvlon tulle was designed with fitted bodice and very full skirt ending in a train. Four large rosettes of the tulle, centered with clusters of seed pearls, were the onlv trimming of the gown. The bride's short veil fell from cap of tulle and pearls and she carried a white satin and tulle muff to which was pinned a white orchid. Miss Duane Carole Maddox was the bride's only attendant. Her frock of white tulle was fashioned with a full skirt studded with gold sequins and she carried a nosegay of steph anotis. Robert H. Rucker gave the bride in marriage and Robert Kyle was best man for the bride groom. Earl Saltmarsh, Frank Rush and William Wright, all of Medford, and Jack Matlack, brother of the bridegroom from Portland, seated tlie guests. The reception which followed was in the church parlor, which had been decorated with bowls of white sweet peas, carnations and snapdragons. Mrs. Richard D. Werner poured, and Mrs. A. C. Pierce and Mrs. Tom Popham cut the wedding cake. Mrs. Ray mond Ayers took charge oi tne guest book. For her daughter s wedding. Mrs. McMannis wore a gown of grey crepe with yoke of lace and beads and a white velvet hat. Her flowers were white carnations. The bridegroom's mother was attired in an aqua marine gown worn with while feathered hat and long white gloves and her flowers were also white carnations. Mr. Matlack and his bride are traveling to southern California and Mexico for their wedding trip and upon returning will live on the Jacksonville highway. Mrs. Matlack wore for traveling a mist green suit with white hat and white orchid corsage ano her accessories were of black suede. The bride, a soprano, has been active in the city's musical cir cles in recent years. She has sung with the chorus of the Philharmonic bociety ot bourn- cm Oregon since its organiza tion, has been a member of tne choir of the First Christian church and in addition has filled many solo engagements. Mr. Matlack, in business here. served in the army three years during World War II, with duty overseas, and is now a lieuten- nt in the national guard re serves. A special guest at the wed ding was the b r i d e 's grand mother, Mrs. Margaret Bounds of Medford, and coming from a distance for the service were Mr. and Mrs. Jack Matlack, brother and sister-in-law of the bridgegroom from Portland, Mrs. L. B. Herder and Miss Frances Herder, also Portland; Mr. and Mrs. L. L. Childers, uncle and aunt of the bride, Mr. and Mrs. Allan Hayes, cousins of the bride. Week Brings "News Of Engagements; Wedding Day Set The past week brought news of two engagements. Mr. and Mrs. Charles W. Cook, 143 Kenwood avenue, Medford, announce the engagement of their daughter, Ruth Evelyn, to Clarence E. Haase, son of Mr. and Mrs. E. H. Haase of Portland. Miss Cook and Mr. Haase are both seniors at the University of Oregon. No date has been set for the wedding.
