Lakers Slated In Pro Tourney Anderson, Ind., Apr. 7 (U.P.1 It will be the Minneapolis Lakers gainst the Syracuse Nationals In the finals of the National Bas ketball association playoffs. The powerful Lakers earned the right to engage Syracuse in the title round when they blast ed the Anderson Packers, 90 to 71, last night. It was the second game of a best-of-three playoff between the winners of the cen tral and western division elim inations. Tornado, Rooks Slated to Play A chance in the Medford high baseball schedule was an nounced this morning as the Black Tornado diamond squad loped for clearing weather so it could play its scheduled South ern Oregon conference game with Central Point this after noon. Coach Alex McDonald said that the local diamond players will plav the Oregon State col- ege Rooks at Corvallis next week Fridav afternoon and pos sibly Corvallis high in the Wil- ani'ctte vallev city the next day. Medford was slated to play Ashland high at Medford next week Fridav but that has been wtooned to Tuesday. April 18. McDonald said. Salem High School Restraint Denied Salem, Ore., Apr. 7 U.R) The Oregon supreme court has denied an application for a re straining order which would j enaDie 10 saiem nin scuuui students to continue in classes. The 18 were suspended bv the Salem school board last fall for belonging to a society it called secret. They received a tern-' porary restraining order which keDt them in classes, while they appealed to the courts on grounds that their group was not secret. Circuit Judge Dal M. King of Coos county, who heard the case here, upheld the school board last month and dissolved the em porary injunction. Testimony at the trial was tnal ine group, which the boys called the Amer ican Boys club, was affiliated with a Portland group known as Alpha Beta Chi. Oregon Indian Tribes Given Compensation Washington, Apr. 7 (U.R) The United States court of claims today awarded three Oregon In dian tribes $377,447.89 as com pensation for lands taken by the government in 1855. The tribes are the confederat ed bands of the Umpqua. the L-alapooias residing in the ump qua and the No-Lai-La-Las. The two tribes in the umpqua valley received J342.450.74, while the No-Lai-La-Las got $34,096.85. The tribes were three of 17 tribes and bands which sued the government for money and in terest they claimed was due them from federal seizure of their i lands. I in a l!)4tl hearing, the court j disqualified three of the original 17 tribes. It held that all bull the three awarded claims had been given just compensation in ! various grants and other money.
