Costs Four Lives Aspen, Colo., Mar. 20 (U.R) A friendly argument almost cost four ski experts their lives. The discussion, about whether skis were better than snowshoos for covering distance, led the four to actually try the experi ment. Dave Schultz and Glen Songer strapped on their skis, and Mike Layton and Dick Krusc put on snow shoes and the quartet let. Gunnison, Colo.. Friday. AH four became bogged down Saturday morning when the worst blizzard of the winter set in above timberline. Schultz and Songer switched to snowshoes but the going was still tough. Mar. 20 U.R A sex fiend who raped and strangled a pretty teen-aged baby sitter eluded police today in this Missouri college town. Boone county Prosecutor Carl Sapp said officers had rounded up all known sex offenders for questioning in the cold-blooded murder of brown-haired Janett Christman in a "terrific strug gle" Saturday night. Others Molested Sapp said the killer may have been the same assailant who tried to molest young baby sit ters in Columbia twice during the past two months. Janett, who would have ob served her 13th birthday tomor row, was attacked and strangled with an electrical cord while she was baby-sitting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Romach, who were attending a bridge party. The killer did n- molest little Gregory Romach, 2V4, who was found asleep in his crib. Beaseau, 36, of Boise, Ida. The victim died en route to a Mesa hospital soon after he drove his blood-spattered auto mobile into a motor court eight miles east of here about mid night. Marshall Church, motel opera tor, quoted Beaseau as saying he had been shot by one of two young hitchhikers he had picked up. Officers said they believed trie victim was a photographer or camera salesman. "My poor wife and child. T am dying," the victim gasped as he opened the door of his car and fell to the ground. Church said he then added, "Let this be a les son to you. Don't ever pick up anyone on the highway. Capisfrano Swallows Arrive On Schedule San Juan, Capistrano, Cal., Mar. 20 (U.R) The swallows of San Juan Capistrano didn't dis appoint the faithful. In huge flights, the swallows swarmed onto the San Juan Capistrano mission roof yester day to keep the 174-year-old legend that they always return on St. Joseph's day. According to the legend, the swallows first started coming here when Franciscans built the pioneer church in 1779. They landed on St. Jnsenh's day and flew south again on St. John's day, October 23. Ornithologists are dubious about the accuracy of the swal lows' arrival time. But yester day the birds started arriving at dawn with flights coming in ev ery two or three hours. The family of W. F. Aberle, 47, came to nationwide atten tion last December when his pretty daughter, Ruth, was lost for four days in the woods. Her knowledge of Girl scout lore saved her. Yesterday, Aberle drowned when the 26-foot Sea scout sail boat "Wanassey" dumped him and 17 boys and girls into the Columbia river. Dave Ammons, 19, also was feared drowned. Aberle slipped from the grasp of his 21-year-old son, Bill, who tried to pull him aboard the tug Bill owned and piloted. The tug, named "Ruth" for his plucky Girl scout sister, had been tow ing the Wanassey when a com bination ot rough water and stiff winds capsized the boat. The boat tipped over in water 40 feet deep. Dragging crews were searching today for the bodies of Aberle and Ammons. There was a remote possibility tliat the latter had swam to swore. R MEMBER YOUR THROAT I Monday, March 20, 19S0 Punishment Of Boys Who Stole Money Left To Parents Pittsburgh. Mar. 20 U.R The punishment of three Erie, Pa., boys who went on a week end spending spree with $9,100 taken from one of their families, was left today to the mercies of the irate parents. The boys were picked up here yesterday with $9,005 still in their possession, stuffed in an old sock and tied with a shoelace. They were turned over to their fathers along with 'about $100 worth of new clothes, wallets, playing cards, poker chips and a radio. No Action Planned Police said no action would be taken against them because of their youth. Punishment by the parents was postponed until the boys returned to Erie. Nicholas Palermo, 11, young est of the trio, took the money his father obtained from the sale of one of his two taverns and asked Paul Yoculan, 12, and Michael Manning, 13, to leave home with him last Fiday. "We were always getting heck because we played hookey from school a couple of times," Nicho las told police. Nicholas took the money from a hiding place in a dresser drawer. Overdoses Of Cold Remedies Serious Los Angeles, Mar. 20 U.R) A University of California at Los Angeles doctor says over doses of the new anti histamine cold remedies may cause serious illness and even death. Dr. Thomas J. Haley, chief of the division of pharmacology and toxicology of the UCLA atomic energy project, recom mended a doctor's prescription be required for anti-histamine remedies. Haley said relatively small amounts of the drugs might be fatal to small children. Icy Runway Blamed For Airplane Mishap Kansas City, Mo., Mar. 20 (U.R) An Icy runway was blamed today for a mishap in which a C-4M airplane carrying 52 pas sengers skidded through a fence and bent its propellers against a railroad embankment. The non-scheduled airliner, op erated by Air International, wound up against the embank ment bordering the east side of the Kansas City municipal air port.
