Dogs Again
How about dogs named after
people? This is the interesting
question brought up by an Okla

of the animal's owner. One day,
"Mr. Scribner," (the dog) an
Airedale, bit Mr. Scribner, the
man. "That," she says, "was one
time a dog biting a man was
news." This same subscriber says
she knows of a goldfish named
"Eleanor Roosevelt," a goat
named "Bernard Shaw," a pig
eon named "Bing Crosby," and a
jackass named "John L. Lewis."

young hitchhikers he had picked
up. Officers said they believed
trie victim was a photographer
or camera salesman.
"My poor wife and child. T am
dying," the victim gasped as he

Capisfrano Swallows

San Juan, Capistrano, Cal.,
Mar. 20 (U.R) The swallows of
San Juan Capistrano didn't dis
appoint the faithful.
In huge flights, the swallows
swarmed onto the San Juan
Capistrano mission roof yester
day to keep the 174-year-old
legend that they always return
on St. Joseph's day.
According to the legend, the
swallows first started coming
here when Franciscans built the
pioneer church in 1779. They
landed on St. Jnsenh's day and
flew south again on St. John's
day, October 23.
Ornithologists are dubious

Longview, Wash., Mar. 20
iU.R) Tragedy, which missed the
Aberle family by a narrow mar

force this week-end.
The family of W. F. Aberle,
47, came to nationwide atten

pretty daughter, Ruth, was lost
for four days in the woods. Her
knowledge of Girl scout lore
saved her.
Yesterday, Aberle drowned
when the 26-foot Sea scout sail
boat "Wanassey" dumped him
and 17 boys and girls into the
Columbia river. Dave Ammons,
19, also was feared drowned.
Aberle slipped from the grasp
of his 21-year-old son, Bill, who
tried to pull him aboard the tug
Bill owned and piloted. The tug,
named "Ruth" for his plucky
Girl scout sister, had been tow
ing the Wanassey when a com
bination ot rough water and stiff
winds capsized the boat.
The boat tipped over in water
40 feet deep. Dragging crews
were searching today for the
bodies of Aberle and Ammons.
There was a remote possibility
