TWO MEDFORD (OREGON) MAIL TRIBUNE Monday, March 20, 1950 iWV Ml cmerw Noted Art Teacher Coming For Association Workshop Prof. Emmy Zweybruck, Internationally noted teacher and artist, has been secured by the Southern Oregon Art Teachers' as sociation for a workshop to be held in Phoenix March 24 and 25. Professor Zweybruck Is direc tor of the New York studio of the American Crayon company and founder of the University of Arts and Crafts of Vienna. In addition she designs for Saks Fifth Avenue. Macy's. Lord and Taylor and other New York es tablishments. The artist Is known to art teachers of southern Oregon, having conducted a successful summer school in design and crafts in Klamath Falls in 1949. It is stated that Professor Zwey bruck brings to worshops a warm, human approach to art education and a confidence that inspires high endeavor, Of particular interest to the teachers will be her exhibit of modern art as found In everyday life. Professor Zweybruck Is ex pectcd to show art work done on wrapping paper, packages and advertising art, with designs based on modern principles of rhythm, color harmony and laws of modern design. She is said to believe that through these me dia the modern spirit and modern approach to design can be brought to the attention of thousands. Attendance at the Friday ses Ion of the workshop is by invi tation only, It is stated, and these are to be extended through school superintendents, supervi sors or principals of the schools of the area. All members of tne Southern Oregon Art Teachers' association are invited, provided arrangement are made through the school offie. it is stated. At tendance Saturday is for all teachers Interested In art education. Materials for use during the two-day session may be pur chased at the workshop, and the cost per person will not be over 3.30, those in charge state. Lunch has been arranged by the Phoenix school, and there wili be a small charge. The Klamath Art association plans a reception in honor of Professor Zweybruck, Sunday afternoon, March 26 from 2 to 4 o'clock at the Art Center, 1227 Main street. Klamath rails. At this time guests will have the pleasure of viewing a one man show of Professor Zwey brack showing silk screening, block printing and stenciling. This exhibit has bepn showing in leading art galleries in Call forma, it is said. All former pupils and friends of Professor Zweybruck and all lovers of beautiful crafts are cordially invited to attend the reception honoring this re nowned artist and teacher, the committee announces. RNA LodeTlolds Antique Display And Amateur Hour A display of antiques featured meeting ot the Koyal Neigh bors of America held at the KP hall March 16. The meeting fol lowing a supper, in charge of Mrs. Winn Arnold and a com mittee. Displayed were a purse 16D years old, a 100-year-old gun used to fight Indians when the owner crossed the plains to Oregon, a bedspread lull years old. a gold necklace 125 years old. The old est article displayed, for which there was a prize, was tele scope belonging to Mr. Kernick and which came into the posses sion of his family in 1HHJ. A program was given under the direction of members of the Lively Oaks club. Featured was an Easter parade, with every ladv parading in an Easter bon net she had made. Mrs. meiviu Brunken and Mrs. DeWitt Fer guson took first and second prize. An amateur nour ioiiowcn with everyone either participat ing or paying a fine. DeWitt Fer guson acted as master of monies. - Considered outstanding were the acts given by Mrs. Har ry Miller and Winn Arnold, who gave a dance, ana two skus ay Mrs. Dclbcrt Ross, Miss Beverly Mee. Mrs. Melvln Brunken and Mrs. Randy Hugdahl. Other out standing acts were a song py wirs Ferguson, and acts by Dr. Y. i. and Madam Fccfi. Mrs. Carl Pearson and Mrs. Tom Mee. Guests for the evening were Mrs. Lenore Broill, Mrs. Hazel Neff of Ashland. Gold Hill Club Meets In Clement Home Friday Gold Hill A group of friends met at the home of Mrs. Dale Clement Friday for polluck luncheon and an afternoon of sewing. The group meets every third rrlday of the month. The afternoon was enjoyed by Mesriamos James Clement. Rob- ret Pugh, C. W. Smith, Lester Thompson, W. D. Bell, S. L. Rotith, C, H. Routh. Rolen Ro srncrans, Cleo Gilchrist, Paul llolderness and the hostess, Mrs. Dale Clement. Ronda Roserrans, Drdnrah Clement. Janet Smith and Phillip Van Horn were also guests. Airs. Hare Is Leader Of Delphian Meeting Delphian society met last week at the Girls Community club, with Mrs. J. M. Hare as leader for the meeting. The sub ject was "How We Learn." The learning process is a dual process, members were told, the two being problem solving and conditioning, or learning by as sociation. Both processes are di rectly connected with the ncrv ous system, it was said. Speaking were Mrs. Elbert I.anox, Mrs. l.ee Mellish. Mrs. Victor Birdseye and Mrs. Ray mond Rcler. Lady Activians Guests Of Mrs. Earl Lichtner Lady Activians were enter tained Thursday evening at the Spring Vacation Brings Students Home From Campus Oregon State college students are home this week for spring vacation, a number having ar rived over the week-end. Dean Earhart arrived Satur day to spend the vacation with his parents. Dr. and Mrs. bam uel D. Earhart, U North Peach street. He is a junior in phar macy at OSC. His cousin. Fred Patching, junior at Stanford uni versity, is also here for spring vacation, and is a guest of the Earharts. He will also visit his two uncles, William and Frank Earhart. Young Patching Is a Jun ior in medicine at Stanford. Also home is Miss Lorraine Greaves, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Greaves. 1156 West Eighth street, fane Is a freshman at the school and a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority. An other freshman home from Ore gon State is Miss Aylene Hop kins, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Hopkins, 113 Ross lane. She is a pledge of Sigma Kappa sorority. Bob and Jim Gray, sons of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Gray, 18 Mo doc avenue, are also spending the vacation here. The former, a freshman, is a pledge of Sigma Phi'Epsilon and his brother is a member of the same fraternity. Other young men home are Kenneth Boshears, a freshman and a son of Mr. and Mrs. Miner T. Boshears, 408 South Grape street, and Jim Moore, son of Mr. and Mrs. James F. Moore, 1209 East Jackson boulevard, and Ralph Denny, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Denny of the Oak Grove district. Miss Charlotte Walker, daugh ter of Dr. and Mrs. L. Coming Events Planned By Jacksonville Club; Hear Talk On Primrose Jacksonville Plans for com ing events were made at a meet ing of the Jacksonville Garden club held last week In the U. S. hotel. Mrs. Lawrence Luy, presi dent, conducted the meeting. Mrs. Harold Reed announced that a plant sale would be held March 24 in the club rooms and Mrs. 11. H. Arnold, flower show chairman, is arranging for a spring flower show to be held April 14. Miss Claire Hanley, program chairman, introduced Mrs. Rose Kendall, guest speaker from the Grants Pass Garden club. Mrs. Kendall spoke on primroses, one of the symbols of spring and a native of manv countries, their culture, pest control and meth ods of raising plants from seed were given. The speaker urged her listeners to try some of the new varieties. The hostess. Mrs. Kenneth Far ley, was assisted by Mrs. Ernie Mclntyre and Miss Claire Han ley. Mrs. Paul Godward and Mrs. Leonard McKee presided at the tea table. Surprise Shower Given For Eagle Point Woman Eagle Point Mrs. Raymond B. Chamberlain was guest of honor at a surprise shower held at the home of Mrs. Bcrtland Stanley March 16. The Eagle Point Extension unit sponsored the shower and an enjoyable aft ernoon was spent by the 35 guests. Refreshments were served at the close of the afternoon.
