FOUR MEDFORD MAIL TRIBUNE Society and Qub: Miss Fitch Wed To Army Veteran ' In Recent Rites Mr. and Mrj. Chester Fitch of Belmont Orchard! announce the marriage of their daughter, ! Lt. Ruth Virginia Fitch, to Cor don Bryan. The wedding took place Thursday, Feb. 14, at Mis soula, Mont. The bride has been connected with the physical therapy de partmcnt of Letterman General Hospital, San Francisco, for the past 16 months while the groom has been a graduate student In the school of pharmacy of the University of Montana since hit discharge from the army. Lt. Bryan expects to be re leased from the service in the near future at which time she will join her husband In Mis soula and will enroll in gradu ate courses at the university. Five Newcomers Attend Meeting Med ford Group . Five prospective members. Mrs. Clay Lee, Mrs, Robert Goode, Mrs. J. F. Sklnnor, Mrs. Lewis Wayburn and Mrs. Wil fred Peterman, were introduc ed at the meeting of Mcdford Sojourners' club Thursday. So Journers, club for newcomers to the city, meets twice each rr.onth at the Girls' Community club for dessert and cards. A guest for Thursday's meet lng was Mrs. N. F. Reed. Dessert was served from a table centered with a bouquet of daffodils, iris and other spring blossoms and this was later presented to Mrs. Robert Church as a prize. Other prize winners were Mrs. C. P. Tal bot, Jr., Mrs. Mary H. Brown Mrs. Philip Epstein, Mrs. John H. Tizekker and Mrs. P. B. Sim cox. Hostesses for the affair were Mrs. B. C, Taylor, chairman Mrs. Charles Bottjer and Mrs. Gordon Gilmore. ' Pioneer Resident Is Honored Guest On 86th Birthday Dave M. Grlsham, who cele brated his 86th birthday anni versary Saturday, was honored at a surprise party, a group of neighbors gathering at his home at one o'clock. The group pre scnied the elderly man with a large decorated birthday cake and served refreshments for the gathering. Mr. 3rlsham'f daughter, Mrs. Roy Nichols, and his daughter in-law, Mrs. Nathan Grlsham, both of Central Point, were In Medford to attend the party. The honored guest is a pion eer resident of the valley and la widely known. Captain and Family Visit In Portland Capt. and Mrs. C. M. Jester and daughter left the city last Saturday for Portland, where they are visiting with the offi cer's mother. Capt, Jester re turned to the United States early In February following three years and three months with the Persian Gulf command and Mrs. Jester and dnughtcr have made their home with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Woodford, S26 South Holly street, during that time. Capt. G. Gcntncr. Medford, vice-president of the Sirkiyou district. Mrs. Harry O Smith, Cave Junction, president of the federation, and a number of other officers, are expected to be here for the session. A no-host luncheon will be held at the Holland Hotel at 12 o'clock, with the executive meeting following. Later In the afternoon the group will be guests of the Mcdford Garden club for a tea at the home of Mrs. Max Ltischncr, 006 West Fourth street. Officers of a Garden clubs of the district are invited to attend both the luncheon and tea. Thursday the Mcdford club will hold the March meeting with both morning and after noon sessions. The morning ses sion is set for 6:30 a.m. and Mrs. Centner will Instruct In the making of "tussle mussles." Members are asked to bring tools and materials and also to bring winter Iris, China lilies violets, heather, quince, daphne or other blossoms now avail able. The afternoon session will be devoted to the discussion of birds of this locality by Dr. Wayne Winficld Wells of South em Oregon college at Ashland Charter members are to be hon ored and are therefore request ed to make an effort to be present. Mariner Class Calendar Party Is Gala Affair A "calendar party" was held by the Mariner Class of the First Christian Church February 27 In Fellowship Hall with Skip pers Claude and Sally Cooper, Pursers Rufus and Virginia Younger, Quartermasters Irwin and Dorothy Doty, Mates Price Shafcr and Ralph Cook. -and Chaplain and Mrs. Delbert Dan iels in charge. Invitations were written In verse and requested that each person come wearing something indicating his birth month bring ing a birthday offering and shar ing a gift. Claud Hoover, as the "New Year" and Doris Hoover representing "Father Time" were considered the most out standing couple while Bob Church, as the "independent man" and Nina Church, as a "shrinking violet" won honor able mention. Miniature scenes depleting the months of the year decorated the tables. Individual 'Happy Blrthdoy" cakes were served by Skipper Sally Cooper. A short business meeting was conducted by Skipper Claude Cooper. Prospect Teachers Honored at Party prospect Mrs. Kenneth Toner entertained recently at a party which celebrated the blrthduy anniversaries of three Prospect teachers, Ethel Crause. Mona Ferns and Mr. Putman. Tables,, arranged In the school dining room, were decorated in the valentine motif. Kathleen Pursell Becomes Bride of Louisiana Veteran Jacksonville Miss Kathleen Pursell of Jacksonville became the bride of Francis J. Guidry of Lafayette, La., last week, the service being held Tuesday at 'ight oclock in Sacred Heart Catholic church in Medford The bride is the daughter of Mr nnd Mrs. Chester R. Pursell Jacksonville, and the groom Is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel T. Guidry of Lafayette. The Rev. Thomas Hamilton read the nuptial rites. Miss Pursell wore a blue dressmaker suit with black ac cessories. Her flowers were freenias and roses. A reception was held at the family home in Jacksonville fol lowing the wedding. The serv lng table was arranged with white blossoms and Mrs. Frank D. Boone and Mrs. Martha Mitchell presided, Mrs. Boone pouring and Mrs. Mitchell cut ting the wedding cake. The bride and groom will leave this week for Louisiana where they will make their home. Mrs. Guidry is a graduate of Jacksonville high school and has been employed at the Jack son County Abstract Co. The groom, a graduate of Lafayette high school, wos recently die charged from military service having served with the 96th Division for three years. World Prayer Day Program Arranged By Local Council The Rev. George Coulter will address the church women of Medford Friday, March 8, when they assemble at Zlon Lutheran church on Fourth street at Oak dale for the World Day of Pray er service according to Mrs. Louis C. Kirby, president of the Medford Council of Church Women. The afternoon session of the Mcdford council, beginning at 1:30 p.m., will Include special music also and has been plan ned by Mrs. John Eby and her committee, Mrs. J. M. Ball. Mrs. Josephine Iverson and Mrs. Fula Foley. The women will meet at 10:30 a.m. for the annuol business meeting and roll call. Special recognition will be given the church group having the larg est per cent of its women at tending. Speaker of the morn ing will be Mrs. Clarence A. Meeker and the morning devo- tlonals will be conducted by Mrs. Victor Birdseye. Luncheon arrangements are being made by Mrs. Elvln Han sen, who has asked each wo man to bring either sandwiches salad or cake, A nursery for small children will be provided during the afternoon. Spring flowers were used about the rooms and pink sweet peas and tapers decorated the serving table. Mrs. Krause cut tho "name" cake and Mrs. Tlz ecker poured coffee. Gifts were drawn from a "Wishing Well" after which games were played with Mrs. Vincent, Mrs. Claud Hoover, Mrs. Kenneth V. Howard and Mrs. Krause winning prizes. Corps Will Plan District Meeting Plans for the district conven tion of the Women's Relief corps, to be held In Medford March 21, will be made at a meeting of Chester A. Corps No, 34 set for Thursday at the armory at 2 p.m. Ashland, Central Point, Grants Pass and Medford make up this district and representatives from all four will be In attendance at the district conclave. Mrs. Day and Daughter Home from Bn Francisco Mrs. Ehrl Day and daughter Miss Nancy Day, have returned to their home. Blue Moon Ranch after spending several days in San Francisco. Mr. Day who recently underwent sur gery In Stanford Hospital, Is re ported to be satisfactorily re covering and is expected home within a few days. '7.50 Announce Betrothal Miss Hilda Marty To Jesse Francis Butte Falls The engagement of Miss Hilda Marty to Jesse Francis was announced Feb. 20 at an informal open house and tea at the home of Miss Marty's aunt, Mrs. Harry Lowe of Butte Falls. The tea table was beautifully decorated with spring flowers and tapers in a color scheme of blue and yellow. Mrs. Robert Edmondson poured and Miss Thelma Fleshman of Medford as sisted in serving. Miss Marty, daughter of Hen ry Marty of Idaho, is well known in the county. She attended high school at Talent and was gradu ated from the Sams Valley high school. For the past three years she has been employed by Ever ett Faber. Mr. Francis is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Francis of Butte Falls. He served in the European theater with the Fifteenth air force, receiving the bronze star and two oak leaf clusters. The wedding has been set for the near future. Zuleima Temple Election, Tea To Be Saturday Election of officers and a tea honoring Mrs. Harry F. Nord wick, Medford, queen of Zule ima Temple, Daughters of the Nile, and supreme Nydia of the supreme temple, will mark the March meeting of the temple set for March 9 at the Masonic hall in Grants Pass. The busi ness session has been scheduled for two o'clock, with the tea to follow in charge of Grants Pass committees. Mrs. Nordwick states that a memorial service will also be held during the session. Membership of the temple is drawn from all sections of southern Oregon. Family Dinner Honors Soldier Honoring their son, Robert. Mr. and Mrs. A. R. Galbraith. 1716 N. Riverside avenue, en tertained at a family reunion dinner Sunday. The son, a private in the medical corps at Ft. Lewis where he has been stationed since his Induction in October is here on an 18-day furlough and will return to duty March 5. At the dinner were Mr. and Mrs. Everett Long and daugh ter, Dee Anne, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Osteen, Mr. , and Mrs. William Kuehl, the honor guest and the host and hostess. The Longs, who have visited with the Galbraiths, parents of Mrs. Long, for the past two months will leave Sunday for their home in Ayrshire, Iowa. Gates, son of Mrs. Madge Henry Gates of North Hollywood, Calif., were married here Saturday, Feb. 23. The rites took place at 8:30 o'clock in the evening and were performed at the Chapel of the Rocks and Roses by the Rev. D. E. Millard. Miss Paulsen's wed ding costume was a light blue dress with brown trim and her flowers were roses and lilies-of-the-valley. She was given in marriage by her father. Mr. and Mrs. Donald W. Paulsen, brother and' sister-in- law of the bride, attended the couple. Mrs. Paulsen wore a brown and white checked suit with a corsage of yellow roses. Preceding the wedding the Rev. and Mrs. Millard sang "Ah, i Sweet Mystery of Life" and the minister sang "Always." A group of 25 relatives and friends attended the wedding and the reception which follow ed at the chapel. Mr. Gates and his bride cut the first slice of wedding cake after which the serving was completed by Mrs. Sarah Sand Stevenson, aunt of the bride. Mrs. Hugo Frohreich served punch. Mr. and Mrs. Gates will be at home in North Hollywood fol lowing a wedding trip to Cali fornia resorts. Mrs. Gates, for merly a teacher of Coronada, Calif., has recently been on the staff of the Bear Creek Orchards here. The groom, with the American Air Lines until re cently, is now in business in North Hollywood. Bridge-Luncheon Given Recently At Wright Home Mrs. Ray Wright and Mrs James Grigsby, Sr., of Jackson ville entertained recently with a brldge-limcheon given at Mrs. Wright's home, 60 North Orange street In Medford.
