The doctor tells mother it is all because the child is Dr. Brady super-sensitive. high strung. In the doctor' of fice the child shrieks in terror and gets a temperature of (mother gives the precise figure to the tenth of a degree.) The doctor does not think there is anything wrong internally, but suggests giving the child a barium X-ray test. It seems too bad that mother. in this case, arrived at her wits end too late. Or so she says. As a matter of fact mother actu ally arrived at her wits end BE FORE she inflicted the enema on the child. Mother asks my advice, but I'll bet a complete set of the works of Ol' Doc Brady against a pipeful (my borrowing pipe) of my choice of fuel that mother will not accept or follow my ad vice. No, sir-ee. well, how could she. completely surround ed and intimidated by Wiseacres who just know that nature can not be trusted to control or reg ulate the bowel function without constant supervision and inter ference by busybodies and ignoramuses. Nature manages to keep the breathing, and the heart running fairly well with out prodding with strychnine, digitalis or what have you. But we Yankee Wiseacres know from way back that it is absolucly necessary to take something or do something to force action of the bowel every so often we know because the quacks and nostrum mongers have been din ning that suggestion in our ears for centuries. My advice to mother in this instance, as in many other in stances like it, is so simple that it doesn't stand the chance of a snowball in you know where of being accepted and followed. It is this: Never again speak of or inquire about the child's bowel acton or lack of it. That's all. Could anything be simpler or more sensible?
