The Senators looked like "nine old men" In losing their fifth straight game at Yankee Stadium to New York, 6 to 1, yesterday, playing with their eyes on the scoreboard to see whether the Tigers were faring any better at Cleveland. Thy weren't. The Indians made It two straight over De troit, also by a 6 to 1 score. All of their runs came along with a deluge of rain In the eighth innine The Tigers salvaged more out of their defeat than the Sena tors, because they now can Clinch the pennant on any com bination of five victories or de feats They need to win five of their six remaining games to take the flag if Washington wins all of its four contests. Each Washington defeat makes It ne cessary for Detroit to win one less ;nme. The Cardinals tightened up the National league race again as Harry Brechcen pitched a 2 to 0, sixhit shutout over the Cubs for his sixth straight vic tory. That reduced Chicago's lead to two games with eight more for each team to play. The Boston Braves defeated the Dodgers at Brooklyn, 3 to 2, in the National with Bob Logan nutpiichlng Hal Gregg while Randy Heflin of the Red Sox shut out the Athletics at Boston 2 to 0 in the American, Sport Chips BY Harry Chipman Mail Trlbui.e Sports Editor Stcelhead fishing In Rogue river is rapidly approaching its peak and will continue from four to six weeks, according to the dope gathered by Al Piche.
