WOODFORD Recorder of City of Medford. surveyed the aftermath of an ex plosion and fire which killed one person and hospitalized 15 early yesterday. The fire, second major disaster In two years. for Iron Fireman, was said to have cost the com pany tens of thousands of dollars. In February, 1944, the com pany's Front avenue plant burn ed at a loss of $2,000,000. Witnesses said the explosion originated in a gas furnace in the heat treatment room at the plant, emoting pieces of walls, roof, aluminum castings and other equipment into the air over a wide area near the plant. Foundations and plaster in of homes for blocks away were of cracked. The exnlosion was heard four miles away. Fitz Dodson, student pastor of the Phoenix Presbyterian church, will conduct his final services of worship at the church this Sunday. Dodson is a student at Yale Divinity School, and has been serving the Phoenix church un der the auspices of the Board of National Missions of the Presby terian Church, U. S. A. He will return to Yale to continue his studies in preparation for ordina tion in the Christian ministery. Dodson expressed regret at leaving the church. "I have greatly enjoyed my service in the church and my work among the people this summer," he said, "and I will hate to leave. "This has been my first trip to the West and to Oregon, and I have been delighted with the country, the climate and the people here," he added.
