Bob Feller Returns To 'Cleveland Indians Club Cleveland, Aug'. 24 U.B Bullet Bob Feller, who not only had the best pre-war fast ball but the best curve In the business, returned to pitching duties with the Cleveland Indians today. hoping he would be able to use i trick or two he learned in the navy. Going against the league lead ing Detroit Tigers in his re-entry into the big leagues, Feller in sists he will "pitch smarter ball" than he did before leaving the team. "And I've got some surprises in store," he said. "I've been working hard at Great Lakes naval station the past few months and I feel I'm in major league condition. Feller is convinced his fast ball is as fast as it ever was and that, in addition he has a "dipsy do" chance of pace pitch. The new pitch is a slow ball, a lary drifter that is expected to make his fast one all the harder to hit What worries Feller is the fact that he hasn't pitched under lights since going into the serv ice, even though after . dark pitching generally helps fast ball hurlers. "They might even knock me out in the first inning," he said. "I just hope I'U get by, but I haven't looked at pitching under the lights in the navy." Feller, who will get $40,000 for the remainder of the season, is the key attraction for tonight's game which is expected to draw close to 50,000 fans. After a civic luncheon he will be presented a jeep at home plate. flOWTH E1& Portland Seattle Sacramento San Francisco Oakland San Diego Los Angeles Hollywood Coast League W. L. BEES MAKE BETTER HONEY THAN ANYBODY Rogue river promises some of the best fishing hereabouts for the past several weeks now that the fish are moving out of their hiding places, Al Pichc, local piscatorial enthusiast, tells us in his reDort of where and where not to fish. With the irrigation canal breaking last Tuesday, Big Butte was a stream of red mud which discolored the upper river and stopped fish from striking. By the week-end the river should be cleared up again. Three Medford anglers who with their names withheld made one of the best catches of the season on spinners and flies during the past week. A total of II fiih ranging from two pounds up to seven, con sisting of seven iteelheads and four jack salmon, were taken above the Elks picnic grounds In fast water.
