Aug. 14. 1943 MTOrOFD MAIL THIBUNE SEVEW ' Feed Wheet SalM Am Halted County AAA committee! hive received notification of the ter mination of Commodity Credit's feed wheat program effective August IS. While shipment will be made on confirmed orders re ceived before that date, no more orders will be accepted. Pro vision Is being made, however, to supply mixers with feed wheat temporarily at Portland terminal prices plus freight. The feed wheat program was suspended some time ago in all except the seven western states served by the Portland regional office of Commodity Credit. In 1944, 4,213,434 bushels of feed wheat were sold to Oregon deal ers and feeders, according to State AAA office figures. August 31 Deadline for Best, Dairy Payments August 31 Is the deadline date for two current production pay mentsbeef cattle and dairy It's the final date for filing ap plications at the county AAA of fice for milk and butterfat sold during the months of April, May and June, and also the last day for making application for the 50 cents a hundredweight pay. ment on beef cattle sold in the period May 19-June 30. The beef payment is made on animals owned for at least 30 days and sold to a licensed slaughterer for not less than $14.95 a hundred. Tip to Farmers On Lamb Subsidy It's up to farmers who sell their sheep and lambs to buyers other than legally authorized slaughterers to protect them selves so that the prices they re ceive will reflect the subsidy payment under the Govern ment's sheep and lamb produc tion payment program. Under the new program, CCC payments will go to persons who sell sheep and lambs to a legally author ized slaughterer for slaughter. This entitles the last person who owns the animals to the subsidy. Applications will be taken by county AAA offices as the basis for issuance of CCC drafts which may be cashed at local banks. R. G. FOWLER, County Agent. Bleach Made of Common Chemical Good for Stains Sodium perborate, sometimes sold as a tooth powder or mouth wash, and 20 volume peroxide are two handy materials to keep in the cleaning cabinet to bleach out stains, especially those caused by mildew. Fresh mildew can be removed with good soap suds followed by thorough sunning, but old mil dew stain is one of the hardest to remove. If the material Is white, bleaching agents includ ing a mixture of lemon and salt may be used. Sodium perborate and 20 vol ume peroxide are two of the safest bleaches for all types of materials. The sodium perborate treatment must be rapid, fol lowed by thorough rinsing or the bleach will affect the color. For small, fresh stains, sponge with a liquid made up of four table spoons of perborate to a pint of soapy water. Another way is to stretch the stained cloth over a bowl of hot water, dampen the aiain, ana men oust the pow- aerea sodium perborate on it. Let stand for a few minutes, then rinse well. For a large stain soak the entire article for a half hour or longer in the solution. The 20 volume peroxide, which Is stronger than the med icinal variety. Is also a safe bleach for all fibers and is no.t as hard on color as chlorine bleaches. It may be applied full strength or diluted, depending on the fragilness of the fabric. The action is speeded if a few crops of ammonia are added Just before use. The perborate and peroxide may be combined successfully, using one level teaspoon of the former to one pint of the perox ide. A medicine dropper is help ful In treating a small stain. In any case a final careful spong ing or rinsing with water is es sential. These two bleaches are satis factory stain removers for scorch, beverage and grass stains and others where a bleach is needed. Stains from peaches and pears are most difficult to remove but the perborate and peroxide bleaches work most satisfactorily. In any case, do not use soap on fruit stains as it sets the stain.
