While at the hospital, he underwent an operation on his shoulder, lie returned to his office today. Talkf To Lion Glenn C. Pendergast, traveling freight and passenger agent of the Southern Pacific Co., was the speaker at the Lions Club dinner meeting Wednesday night at the Holland hotel. He adds that the Mail Tribune still reaches him regularly, and he enjoys reading it and passing the copies onto other Medford men. Maddox Returns Ruoert F. Maddox, S 1c, has returned to his ship at San Francisco after spending the past six days with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. B. Maddox, route 1, box 381. His sister, Barbara, who is a cadet nurse at St. Joseph hospital. Vancouver, Wash., was also here. Maddox has been on active duty in the South Pacific. Murray Now Deputy Jack Murray, of this city, a discharg ed Seabee who saw long service in the Pacific theater, has been named office deputy by Sheriff Howard A. Gault, and assumed his duties yesterday. His work will largely be clerieal. Before entering the service. Deputy Murray was in the abstract busi ness and is familiar with legal processes. To Conference Eight young people and the minister, Rev. Delbert W. Daniels, of the First Christian church, will leave Sun day for the Young People's con ference at Bridge, Ore. The meet ing Is expected to be one of the largest conferences held by the group in Oregon this year. Dies In Chicago The death of Joe Dunn, former Medford barb er, July 17 in Chicago was learned today by friends in the city. Graham, Route 2, Tuesday when it col lided at the intersection of Fifth street and Central avenue with an auto driven by Evelyn Jones, Route 4, according to an accident report filed with city police. Kohn Here Melvin Kohn, a former corporal with the 35th Engineers, arrived home Friday from Ft. Lewis., Wash., where he received an honorable discharge i from the army after six years ; service. Ulrich has just completed a post gradu ate course at the naval academy at Annapolis, Md., and will be attached to a fleet air wing for duties involving flying as an aerological officer. He is graduate of Medford high school and the University of Washing ton, and has been in the navy since 1941, REALTY ACTIVITY IRK FOR CLERK Deeds and other legal papers are being received at the rate of 50 per day for transfers of land in the county, indicating consid erable realty activity, according to county officials. In tran scribing to record books of the documents, county clerk's office aides report they Bre close to 1,000 papers behind. Five per sons are engaged in transcription work. The deeds, according to the county assessor's office, will be placed on the tax rolls for the 1946-1947 collections. Paul Selby Buys Hohlweg Top Shop Paul J. Selby, well known Medford business man has an nounced the purchase of Hohl weg's Top and Glass shop at Eighth and Bartlett. The poli cies and services of the 10-year-old firm will continue as in the past but the name will be changed to Selby's Top and Glass shop. Frank Hohlweg, who says he has no definite plans for the future, will remain in the shop with Selby.
