A GRUDGING WORD A famous novelist says he has suffered nearly all his life from frequent headaches and he has l r 1 e a every t h i ng doctors could suggest, with little or no benefit. A year or two ago. he says, he read in this column an ar ticle about the use of castor oil as a rem edy for the un derlying trou ble, not as a Dr. Brady relief for the headache Itself. I have never taken as much as half a teaspoonful of castor oil, the novelist says, but I have taken a few drops every morn ing for the past year or two, and it is certainly a fact that my headaches have been greatly re duced iri number and that I have gotten over them more quickly. It may be that there Is some hormone-like substance m cas tor oil but, as you said physi cians do not know how to ex plain the effect of the castor oil treatment of this condition. The sufferer who elects to give the treatment a try for migraine, facial neuralgia or intractable "nervous" or neuralgic head ache, should take a certain dose of fresh pure castor oil dally, preferably shortly after rising each morning, and determine the dose by trial and error the pur pose being to take only as much as possible short of producing the laxative effect of a full dose of castor oil. Most persons find that about ten drops dally is suf ficient.' E4 TOPS FOR MONTH Thunderstorms and hail on June 4 brought the greatest amount of precipitation in any 24 hour period of the month, a total of .92 inches on June 4 and 5, according to the monthly me teorological summary of the Medford station of the weather bureau. 'A total of 13 clear days were recorded, five partly clouded and 10 cloudy, while only two days brought a measurable amount of precipitation. Highest temperature for the month was 101 degrees on June 10, which is the maximum re corded here yet this summer. Lowest was 30 degrees on June 14. Extremes during the month of June since 1011 were 100 de grees on June 6, 1026, and 32 degrees on June 12 in 1017. A monthly mean of 30.00 was reported for barometric pres sure. Man Stabs Wife In Jealous Rage Seattle. July 6 U.R Blam ing his act on "uncontrollable Jealousy," a 26-year-old shipyard worker, Charles Ray Ross of Knoxvlllc, Tenn., admitted he killed his auburn-haired bride of four months today with a flve- inrh hunting knife, police said "My wife had been unfaithful to me on many occasions," Ross told police. "I lost my head and stabbed her. That s all." TORNADO RIPS THROUGH NEBRASKA FARM HOUSE Rising City. Neb.. July 6 AI R) At least a dozen persons Injured by a tornado which killed six people as It tore through a farm community weft of here were taken to a hospital in Columbus todhy. The tornado struck last night at the James Henderson home, demolished the house, and killed Mrs Henderson, her four-year- old son, and a guest, Dedle Als house, a beauty operator of David City. Burning, Theft Of Goods Charged By London, July 6 (U.R) Charges that American army goods, . from bedsheets to am bulances, either were being burned or stolen and sold for high profits were made in pro vincial courts today. In a trial at Westbury, Wilt shire, a fitter named Alfred Grist said that he had seen thousands of dollars worth of equipment go up in smoke at the Warminster ordnance dump, where he formerly worked. Grist was fined $60 for unlaw ful possession of two American army tires, a Jack, and a head lamp. He said he had taken the AT Construction of a riaval radio station is under way on city owned land at the Jackson coun ty fairgrounds and operation is expected tdlbegin in a few days. The building, a small concrete tile affair, is being constructed with money provided by the Jackson County Chamber of Commerce and will be rented to the Navy for $25 per month. Reason for Chamber of Com merce financing was said to be because the building was needed immediately and. radio techni cians and operators brought here, to operate the device will bring an added payroll to the city. The station will be operated by Naval Air Transport Service Command, Oakland, Calif., and will be used to furnish radio communica tion with navy planes flying in this area. Friends Church Vacation School To Open Monday A vacation Bible school, spon sored by the Friends church will begin next Monday at the How ard school, Old Pacific highway, according to Milo C. Ross, local pastor. The Sunday school council, headed by Marjorie Vo- taw, has secured the assistance of Esther Hendricks White of Sher- word, and Llla Newby of New- berg, as teachers in cooperation with a staff of local workers. Mrs. White is a Friends minis'er who has majored in children's activities and teaching. The school is open to all chil dren of grade school age. Frey, manager of the Medford branch office of the United States National Bank, re ports substantial gains in depos its and resources for this large Oregon financial Institution. 1 In its statement of condition to the Comptroller of the Cur rency as per the official call of June 30, the -United States Na tional Bank reported deposits of $500,580,564.41 and resources of $530,064,022.03. Deposits, now at an all time high, represent an increase of $81,450,449.85 over the corre sponding 1044 call date. During the same period, resources in creased iby $83,523,502.25. . "This is a truly splendid rec ord," stated Mr. Frey.
