Cars Collide Considerable 'damage was caused Wednesday to an auto operated by George B. Rondeau, Glendale, Ore., when it was struck on Main street by an auto driven by James Warren Barlow, Route 2, according to an accident report on file today. Boards To Close Jackson county selective boards No.'s 1 and 2 will be closed on Satur day afternoons in the future, it was announced today by the board chairmen, Guy T. Apple white and Ernest L. Scott The boards will be open from 8 to 5 p. m. on week-days and from 8 until 12 noon on Saturdays. On Furlough T'Sgt. He attended school in Talent. Girl Born First Lt. and Mrs. Don Darneille are the parents of a girl born July 4 in Louisville, Ky., and weighing nine pounds, 6 ounces. Lt. Darneille was for merly an English instructor in the Medford Junior high school, and Mrs. Darneille, the former Lavon Davis, was secretary at the school. They left Medford about two years ago and the lieutenant is now stationed at Ft. Knox. Mrs. Darneille's moth er is Mrs. Monta Davis, and Lt. S Fredericks. Another applica tion was filed by William F. Wheat, 24 South Orange street, to remodel a garage at a cost of $200. To Florida Mrs. Myrtle Mars ters, 229 East Main street, left by plane yesterday for Tampa, Fla., where she plans to visit for the next two weeks with her sister, whom she hasn't seen for 16 years. Mr. and Mrs. Sheldon Marsters, son and daughter-in-law of Mrs. Marsters, will man age the Sunshine Donut shop in her absence. Barnes Hera Lt. and Mrs. Curtis Barnes are in Medford visiting the lieutenant's parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Barnes of 20 N. Peach street while on leave from the navy for a few weeks. Lt. Barnes came from New York last week after several months overseas duty, and his wife has been making her home in San Francisco. m m Receives Discharge Ranson Webster, a former ship's cook, first class, in the navy, arrived home last Friday following his honorable discharge from the service and, with his wife and children, Is at the family home. 1Z3 Vancouver avenue. Web ster, who has been in the navy the past three years, was last stationed at Crows Landing, Mo desto, Calif. His father, W. O. Webster, resides in Medford. Leave By Plana Mrs. George E. Walker and small son left by plane Tuesday for Beverly Hills, Calif., where she will meet her husband, an army sergeant, who just returned from action in Bel gium and Germany with the 1614th engineer water supply company. He is stationed at Camp Hahn, Calif., and expects to see further overseas service. Mrs. Walker and son reside with her mother, Mrs. Alma Preston, 729 Dakota avenue. Cars Collide Cars operated by N. L. Gifford, Bly, Ore., and H. H. Moore, Route 2, collided on South Central avenue Wed nesday evening causing damage estimated at $50 to Gifford's au to, an accident report on file with city police states. Another report states that considerable damage was caused to an auto mobile driven by D. O. Hood, Medford, when it collided Mon day on the Grape and Main streets intersection with a car operated by John P. Watson arrived home yesterday on a two-weeks' leave from the naval reserve at Treasure Is land, Calif., and is visiting his wife and children at the family home, 322 South Riverside ave nue. Miss Cox plans to attend the national convention of the Daughters of Union Veterans to be held at Co lumbus, Ohio, in September. m Ruth Fitch Home Second Lt. Ruth Fitch, PT, Is visiting at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Chester Fitch, Route 4, on leave from Letterman general hospital, San Francisco. Lt. Fitch, who has been in the army ten months, will report to the hospital at the end of a two weeks leave. LOOKOUT STATION State police officers are today Investigating vandalism of the Buck Rock lookout station near Trail, which was entered some time between Sunday and Thurs day. Police and State Forest Patrol headquarters reported the telephone had been wrecked, a fire-finder and map destroyed radio torn out,, windows broken and several articles missing. The lookout, Melvin Anhorn, 16, route 3, Medford, discovered the act when he returned to his station Thursday. Anhorn had been bitten by a rattle snake Sunday and had come to Med ford for aid and lt was upon his return to duty that the vandal ism was discovered. Because the telephone and ratfio had been damaged beyond use, Anhorn had to walk out a considerable distance to telephone forest headquarters. CHERRY CROP HARVEST ' UNDER WAY IN VALLEY Harvesting of the cherry crop of the valley is now in full swing with good crops reportea in some orchards and others rather skimpy. Canning of cherries, started this week at the Rosue Canning corporation plant, is ex-1 pected to last another week or ten days. Some cherries are being j transported to northern Cali-i fomia points. Bings and Royal Annes are now being picked, with Lamberts next. Black Re publicans have started to ripen.
