Correction Issued A correc tion in the celling price of canta loupes as given on the latest community ceiling price list issued from the Portland head quarters of OPA was noted to day. The price should read 10V4 cents a pound Instead of 9V4 cents, it was said. Return Mrs. Frank Gruber, Jr., and daughter, 257 Beatty street, returned to the city early this week from Oakland, Calif.. where they spent last week with Mrs. Gruber's parents-ln-law, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Gruber, Sr. The Grubers' son, Major Frank Gruber, Jr., is now in France. Visiting Parents First Lt. and Mrs. T. t. Taylor are visiting this week at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Stevens, 710 Park avenue. The couple arrived in Medford Wed nesday from the south where they have been visiting relatives in Reno, Nev., and San Fran cisco. Lt. Taylor will leave to morrow for Ft. Lewis, Wash, and Mrs. Taylor will Join him the first of next Week. Visiting Here Sgt. and Mrs. B. R. Harwood and children and the sergeant's mother, Mrs. Mary Harwood, of Santa Cruz, Calif., are visiting in thfe city at the home of Mrs. C. W. Harwood and Mrs. Nellie Schrecengost , 502 Park avenue. The sergeant re turned to the States June 3 from the European theater where he has served IS months with the 3rd army. He 'was wounded March 11 and was awarded the purple heart. Sgt. Harwood, on a convalescent furlough, and his family will be in Medford two weeks. ' To Graduate Miss' Helen Trono Srhnenl of Medford will raxsina th degree of master of fine arts today at Yale univers ity's 244th annual commence ment in Woolsey Hall, a release from the university states. Miss Schoeni, a granddaughter of Mrs. Lucy Lyman, 4a koss coun, was identified with dramatic ac tivities on the east coast for a number of vears and during the early days of the war was a Red Cross recreation director at South Pacific bases. She re turned to this country last fall Minger Here Alton Minger of the merchant marine visited his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Minger, 2117 Capitol avenue, a few days earlier this week. Since being in Medford Christmas day, Minger has made two trips to Europe, his only trips across the North Atlantic, with one to France and one to Belgium. Both return trips were by way of England. Since entering the mer chant marine service more than three years ago, Minger has made 11 voyages, the longest lasting more than 11 months. Minger now returns to Pacific duty. While here Minger enjoyed a visit with Sgt. In Hospital Mrs. Lewis Ulrich, 829 Minnesota avenue, is a patient in Good Samaritan hos pital, Portland, following major surgery. She is reported to be convalescing satisfactorily. Mr. Ulrich is in Portland with his wife. New Residents Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Patton and daughter, Mrs. Frank Huntsucker, are making their home in Medford at 1005 West Main street after moving to the city recently from Morton, Tex. Mrs. Huntsucker is em ployed at Mann's beauty shop. Correction Account of the accident in which Mrs. L. J Conroy, 712 West Fourth street. was injured slightly, which ap peared in Wednesday s paper, was in error as to the time of the accident. The mishap oc curred Monday morning when a Yellow cab in which Mrs. Con roy was riding, collided with an auto, operated by H. H. Harvey, on the corner of Fourth and Quince streets. A. B. Cearby, 603 South Riverside avenue, was driver of the cab. Two Fires Firemen were called to the Medford Asphalt Paving company, on Midway road, this morning to extinguish a fire in a tar pot which caused some damage, according to a re port from the company. The pot should be back in running order within the next few days, it was said. Another run ,vas made by firemen to the home of. H. F, Dahlke, 411 Haven street, when an, overheated oil stove caused alarm. No damage was caused, firemen said. AT LAKE SUNDAY AH members of the Junior Chamber of Commerce and their families are urged to attend the picnic to be held at Lake o' Woods Sunday. It is to be a Joint affair with members of the Klamath Falls club and will be held near the lodge, at noon. Members are to furnish their own food. The picnic win be followed by a Softball game between the Klamath Falls and Medford Jay- Cees. Grants Pass members have accepted an invitation to umpire the game. Members of the Medford Jay- Cee speakers club met with the Grants Pass Junior Chamber at We-Ask-U-Inn for the purpose of organizing a speakers' club among the Grants Pass group The proposition was received with enthusiasm and a date has been set for the first meeting. The packing plants of the val ley will again hold a packing school next month, to provide additional packers for the com ing pear season. There are not enough packers locally and ship pers figure this talent lack the major bottleneck in the coming fruit harvest. Prospect for har vest labor is brighter with appli cations filed for Mexican nation als and German prisoner of war help. Since the war, there has been a yearly shortage of experienced packers who come under the head of skilled labor. It takes a couple of seasons experience to make a good packer. In former years many of the packers were transient, following the fruit harvests, starting in California and working north. ' FREIGHT DROPS Washington, June 22 (U.R) Loadings of revenue freight In the week ended June 16 totaled 872,674 cars, a decline of 11,611 cars from the previous week, the Association of American Rail roads reported today. B. Coleman reports a small tax levy is under consideration as a means to finance the Sons of the American Revolution sponsored proposal to convert the old courthouse at Jacksonville into a pioneer mu seum. The tax levy would be extended over a number of years and the funds used to place the structure in repair and pay the curator. The county Judge said the building Is in need of repair. Plans for the suggested tax levy are being worked out by the S.A.R. committee in charge of the project. Judge Coleman, who was pres ent at the laying of the corner stone in 1884, says a Bible, cop ies of Jackson county news papers, and a bottle of whisky are sealed in the cornerstone of the old courthouse. The articles were placed there at the dedica tion which attracted a large crowd. Last Monday, Gov. Snell was honor guest and speaker at a meeting in the old courthouse and endorsed the plan to make it a museum and historic mecca. The plan was also widely at- proved throughout southern Ore gon. Three Juveniles, living at r-rospeci, nave been lodged in the Juvenile ward of the county Jail and face a charge of enter ing a Woodruff Meadows cabin belonging to Mrs. Cora B. Carl son, 26 Western avenue. State police, who Investigated, said the boys had entered the cabin, broken all windows, re moved everything from the walls, broken dishes, silverware, canned food, sacks of flour and generally damaged the interior of the building. The place was in such a shambles lt could not be determined if anything was stolen, police said. The boys, ranging in age from 14 to 16 years, had been em ployed by Charles Skeeters log ging operations as brush pliers. HAROLD BROWN BUYS ' OLD STAGE ROAD HOME Purchase of a portion of the Harold Thornley property on the Old Stage Road was announced yesterday by Harold Brown, Medford realtor. Brown stated that he had bought the Thornley home and 18 acres of orchard and that Thornley would retain the remainder of the place.
