AT LAKE SUNDAY
AH members of the Junior
Chamber of Commerce and their
families are urged to attend the
picnic to be held at Lake o'
Woods Sunday. It is to be a Joint
affair with members of the
Klamath Falls club and will be
held near the lodge, at noon.
Members are to furnish their
own food.
The picnic win be followed
by a Softball game between the
Klamath Falls and Medford Jay-
Cees. Grants Pass members have
accepted an invitation to umpire
the game.
Members of the Medford Jay-
Cee speakers club met with the
Grants Pass Junior Chamber at

organizing a speakers' club
among the Grants Pass group
The proposition was received
with enthusiasm and a date has
been set for the first meeting.
The packing plants of the val
ley will again hold a packing
school next month, to provide
additional packers for the com
ing pear season. There are not
enough packers locally and ship
pers figure this talent lack the
major bottleneck in the coming
fruit harvest. Prospect for har
vest labor is brighter with appli
cations filed for Mexican nation
als and German prisoner of war
help.
Since the war, there has been
a yearly shortage of experienced
packers who come under the
head of skilled labor. It takes a
couple of seasons experience to
make a good packer. In former
years many of the packers were
transient, following the fruit
harvests, starting in California
and working north.

SILL TAX LEVY
CONSIDERED FOR
J'VILLE MUSEUM
County Judge J. B. Coleman
reports a small tax levy is under
consideration as a means to
finance the Sons of the American
Revolution sponsored proposal
to convert the old courthouse at
Jacksonville into a pioneer mu
seum. The tax levy would be
extended over a number of
years and the funds used to place
the structure in repair and pay
the curator. The county Judge
said the building Is in need of
repair. Plans for the suggested
tax levy are being worked out
by the S.A.R. committee in
charge of the project.
Judge Coleman, who was pres
ent at the laying of the corner
stone in 1884, says a Bible, cop
ies of Jackson county news
papers, and a bottle of whisky
are sealed in the cornerstone of
the old courthouse. The articles
were placed there at the dedica
tion which attracted a large
crowd.
Last Monday, Gov. Snell was
honor guest and speaker at a
meeting in the old courthouse
and endorsed the plan to make
it a museum and historic mecca.
The plan was also widely at-
proved throughout southern Ore
gon.
Three Juveniles, living at
r-rospeci, nave been lodged in
the Juvenile ward of the county
Jail and face a charge of enter
ing a Woodruff Meadows cabin
belonging to Mrs. Cora B. Carl
son, 26 Western avenue.
State police, who Investigated,
said the boys had entered the
cabin, broken all windows, re
moved everything from the
walls, broken dishes, silverware,
canned food, sacks of flour and
generally damaged the interior
of the building. The place was
in such a shambles lt could not
be determined if anything was
stolen, police said.
The boys, ranging in age from
14 to 16 years, had been em
ployed by Charles Skeeters log
ging operations as brush pliers.
