A re cent X-ray by her dentist shows. she says, tnai she has a ten dency to uric acid In her sys tem, which, if not cleared up, will affect her teeth seriously, also her eye sight pre sumably this is what the dentist told her. She does not wear glass- Now just what , Dr. Brady (s at Dresent, changes should she make in her diet It seems that in sounding off in my quacklsh way here re cently I boasted that I nave naa more experience than any honest doctor in the country in long dis tance diagnosis and absent treat ment, or something to' that ei- feet, so it should be child's play for me to set the correspondent and her dentist right about this case. I do talk myself Into situations. I can't dig up the copy without a tedious search through the files, than which I can conceive of nothing more odious unless It is reading clippings from my own column but I'm willing to bet you ten to one any amount up to a dime-wthat when I uttered that remark about long distance diagnosis and absent treatment I was trying to make the reader realize the absurdity of any at tempt or pretense of ability to make a diagnosis of, or to pre scribe treatment for any indi vidual condition without having examined the patient. According to the medical au thorities X-ray pictures of what medical authorities call "gouty arthritis" show typical "punch-ed-out" appearances about the joint involved. But speaking now as the old one-horse country practitioner I repeat I'm from Missouri in respect to several fine old medical traditions, and Darticularly these threei 1. That any illness is caused by cold, dampness, exposure, sua den change, draft. 2. That rabies occurs Jn man. 3. That excess of uric acid or de posits of monosodium urate in the tissues or about joints is the cause of a disease called "gout." The correspondent asks wheth er I think what she describes is serious and if so whether I ad vise a change in her diet. , After all, she doesn't describe anything so I don't believe it is serious. The only change I would advise in her diet, if any, is an increase in the daily consump tion of these foods: -Milk, . cheese, egg yolk, vege tables, raw and cooked, greens, peanuts and. nuts,' and if neces sary a decrease in the daily con sumption of these: White flour and things made of it. Refined sugar and syrup and things made of them. Federal Judge Ralph E. Jen ney dismissed the second case against Jesse M. Carney and Mil ton G. Ramsey and ordered their equipment returned on grounds the search warrent Dy wnicn federal Investigators entered their home was not legally suf ficient. Affidavits on which the war rants were based were "not strong enough legally to justify the search and seizure,", the indee ruled. Prospect Vast Nazi Hoard Found In Vaults Of Regensburg By U.S. Third Army Paris, Juno 2 (U.R) Troops of the U. S. 3rd army have found in Regensburg bank vaults a nazl hoard of gold, silver, Jewel ry, and securities valued tenta tively at more than $5,000,000, 000, It was announced today. The treasure was believed to represent the main national wealth of Austria and of Bavaria, looted by the nazls in a system atic campaign. '. First Lt. John J. Stack, Jr., San Francisco, fiscal officer for the 12th corps local military gov ernment detachment, found the hoard in the vaults of the Regens burg Relchsbank. It Included loot known to have been taken from the death camp victims at Dachau and Buchen wald. There were suitcases, and boxes of watches, bracelets and other jewelry, in addition to 2, 200 pounds of silver bullion melt ed down from Jewelry. First estimates of the value of the treasure placed it far in ex cess of the gold cache found in a Mcrken salt mine this spring. The announcement of the find did not say when it was made. What was described officially as the main national wealth of Aus tria, included foreign securities valued at $3,000,000,000. The Bavarian lot included domestic German securities valued at $2,000,000,000. The loot included a solid gold tabernacle from the Russian Orthodox church at Prague. There also was $50,000 to $100, 000 worth of gold and silver coins and 15 bars of gold bullion valued at $300,000. " " The announcement also said troops of the 12th corps found a cache of pure gold valued at $5, 000 on a hay wagon near Hald hauscn, Austria. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Boslaugh left June 14, for their home at Cottage Grove, after visiting two days at the home of Mrs. Bos- laugh's brother-in-law and sis ter, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Dobbyn. Guests of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Ross for the past two weeks were Mrs. Ross' mother, Mrs. Melissa Smith, and brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Smith of San Jose. The senior Mrs. Smith departed for her home, last week, and the latter couple spent a few days at Lake O' Woods, before- leaving for San Jose, June 20. Pvt. Phillus Virginia Hutchlns. daughter of Leonard Hutchins, a member of the Women s Army Corps, recently left First WAC Training Center, at Fort Des Moines, Iowa, for technical train ing at the Brook Hospital center, at Fort Houston, Texas, accord ing to word from the Public Re lations office at Fort Des Moines. Upon completion of training, Pvt. Hutchins will be assigned to duty In one of the army general hospitals. Mrs. Royal Ceford Garoutte and new son, Duane Royal, left the Community hospital in Med ford, June 19, and is staying few days at the home of he" , home In the Red Blanket district mother, Mrs. Glenn- Fairchild. Mr. and Mrs. Tom Ross left June 21, for San Francisco to spend the remainder of the week attending to business mat ters. Mrs. M. H. Cushlng, who has been a guest at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. D. F. Cushlng for the past month, left June 16, for Billings, Montana, to visit relatives for a few- weeks before returning to her home in San Francisco. Mrs. Guy Tex of Central Point spent Sunday with her sister, Mrs. Mary Grieve, Mrs. Ted Kelly and children Karen and John of Grass Valley, Ore., arrived here -June 17, to spend a week with her parents Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Fairchild Mr. and Mrs. Weldon Zundel received word from the war de partment that their son Pfc Weldon Zundel was injured May 27 In the China-Burma area. Weldon had been ill, and in rest-camp in Tibet for a couple of weeks, and had been back in action but a short while, Mr. and Mrs. D. F. Cushlng spent last week end at their ranch near Placerville, Calif, Elmer Clemens motored to Grants Pass, June 16, for medi cal treatment. The- house belonging to Ed Boothby, and occupied by Mrs. Warren Barr and children, War ren Jr. and Colleen, was com pletely destroyed by fire, June 15. Mr. Barr has been working in Alaska for the past two months,' and Mrs.. Barr had the household goods and clothing packed, and the family were ready to join him, when the mis fortune occurred. The house was partially covered by insurance. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur F. Goode were hosts for a dinner at their June 17. Covers were placed for Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Gray and son Donald, and Miss Theda Goode, of Medford, Ralph Goode of Coulee Dam, Wash., Mr. and Mrs. Jack Hollenbeak, daughter Joanne, and Mr. and Mrs. Harry Goode and children, Patricia and Ralph.
