cently I boasted that I nave naa
more experience than any honest
doctor in the country in long dis
tance diagnosis and absent treat
ment, or something to' that ei-
feet, so it should be child's play
for me to set the correspondent
and her dentist right about this
case.

realize the absurdity of any at
tempt or pretense of ability to
make a diagnosis of, or to pre
scribe treatment for any indi
vidual condition without having
examined the patient.
According to the medical au
thorities X-ray pictures of what
medical authorities call "gouty
arthritis" show typical "punch-ed-out"
appearances about the
joint involved. But speaking now
as the old one-horse country
practitioner I repeat I'm from
Missouri in respect to several
fine old medical traditions, and
Darticularly these threei
1. That any illness is caused by
cold, dampness, exposure, sua
den change, draft.
2. That rabies occurs Jn man.
3. That excess of uric acid or de
posits of monosodium urate in
the tissues or about joints is
the cause of a disease called
"gout."
The correspondent asks wheth
er I think what she describes is
serious and if so whether I ad
vise a change in her diet. ,
After all, she doesn't describe
anything so I don't believe it is
serious. The only change I would
advise in her diet, if any, is an
increase in the daily consump
tion of these foods: -Milk,
. cheese, egg yolk, vege
tables, raw and cooked, greens,
peanuts and. nuts,' and if neces
sary a decrease in the daily con
sumption of these:
White flour and things made
of it. Refined sugar and syrup
and things made of them.

Vast Nazi Hoard Found In Vaults
Of Regensburg By U.S. Third Army
Paris, Juno 2 (U.R) Troops of
the U. S. 3rd army have found
in Regensburg bank vaults a
nazl hoard of gold, silver, Jewel
ry, and securities valued tenta
tively at more than $5,000,000,
000, It was announced today.
The treasure was believed to
represent the main national
wealth of Austria and of Bavaria,
looted by the nazls in a system
atic campaign. '.
First Lt. John J. Stack, Jr.,
San Francisco, fiscal officer for
the 12th corps local military gov
ernment detachment, found the
hoard in the vaults of the Regens
burg Relchsbank.
It Included loot known to have
been taken from the death camp
victims at Dachau and Buchen
wald. There were suitcases, and
boxes of watches, bracelets and
other jewelry, in addition to 2,
200 pounds of silver bullion melt
ed down from Jewelry.
First estimates of the value of
the treasure placed it far in ex
cess of the gold cache found in
a Mcrken salt mine this spring.
The announcement of the find
did not say when it was made.
What was described officially as
the main national wealth of Aus
tria, included foreign securities
valued at $3,000,000,000. The
Bavarian lot included domestic
German securities valued at
$2,000,000,000.
The loot included a solid gold
tabernacle from the Russian
Orthodox church at Prague.
There also was $50,000 to $100,
000 worth of gold and silver
coins and 15 bars of gold bullion
valued at $300,000. " "
The announcement also said
troops of the 12th corps found a
cache of pure gold valued at $5,
000 on a hay wagon near Hald
hauscn, Austria.

Melissa Smith, and brother and

Charles Smith of San Jose. The
senior Mrs. Smith departed for
her home, last week, and the
latter couple spent a few days at
Lake O' Woods, before- leaving

ranch near Placerville, Calif,
Elmer Clemens motored to
Grants Pass, June 16, for medi
cal treatment.
The- house belonging to Ed
Boothby, and occupied by Mrs.
Warren Barr and children, War
ren Jr. and Colleen, was com
pletely destroyed by fire, June
15. Mr. Barr has been working
in Alaska for the past two
months,' and Mrs.. Barr had the
household goods and clothing
packed, and the family were
ready to join him, when the mis
fortune occurred. The house was
partially covered by insurance.
Mr. and Mrs. Arthur F. Goode
were hosts for a dinner at their
June 17. Covers were placed for
Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Gray and
son Donald, and Miss Theda
Goode, of Medford, Ralph Goode
