I'm tickled pink to tell any old aunty the truth about this matter if she asks my opinion or advice. But I decline to inter vene in that way between you and your dear old Aunty. I say my say about the whole business In the booklet "Call It Cri" and any one who cares may slip me two shillings, together with a stamped self addressed envelope, for a copy of the book. Living with her or seeing her from day to day and week to week, you probably do not real ize how old Aunty is. Her mind has been set like so much plaster of Paris these many years. I know, by gosh. I do get pleasant letters from a few readers past SO, some of them grandmothers, asking me to help them convince their chil dren that outdoor life is not dan gerous for their children who, poor little dears, are coddled so much that they are getting pale and peaked . . . but seldom do these entrust the problem to me unconditionally. No, indeed. They instruct me carefully as to just what I am to advise their erring children. They evidently think a little of my medicine might do some good, but a com plete course of treatment would be dangerous. 1 Another reader (of indetermi nate gender so many people use only an initial letter for Christian name) informs me that he or she has noticed that some individuals with chronic nose, throat or sinus trouble seem to be carriers of cri. There is little evidence that simple chronic rhinitis or ."ca tarrh", which is apparent to one or more senses, is of that nature. But there is no question that many sufferers from chronic si- nusitis are "carriers" of the no torious Strepococcus which may produce severe cri (acute respir atory infection) in another per son. Likewise people who have chronic tonsillitis (not simple hy pertrophy or enlargement of ton sils such as is more or less nor mal in childhood) may be "ear ners" ol a similar strain of Streptococcus which produces acute cri in those who happen to be caught in cough, sneeze, or polite conversational spray. S naw. who has been in ina serv ice three years and traveled nearly 100.000 miles on the ocean, recently wrote to rela tives here, telling of a meeting with a youth with whom he used to ao to school In New yorn The friend, Seely wrote, had been In the Pacific 14 months and had not had an orange dur ing that time. He paid $2 for the last one he had, the letter stated. "The people at home little rea lize what some of their boys are going through. You can never realize the sacrifices until you see the wrecked equipment strewn on the beaches or hear the surf pound Its mournful sound against the hulk of what was once a ship. . . . The great sacrifices being made by the people at home would seem very small to the men out here," Seely wrote. Seely's parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Seely, reside at 001 North Central avenue, Medford. These claims are paid to the United States treasurer when the customer is not known, The claims covered over charges on used cars, food and consumer durable goods, the re port shows. The administrator claim Is a minimum of $25 per cent overcharge and a maximum of three times the amount of the overcharge, depending upon the seriousness of the violation. During the same period the local price panel has been In. strumental In refunding to cus tomers who have made com plaints against sellers ot used cars, consumer durable goocis and services the sum of si,- 118.19.
