EIGHT MEDFOHD MAIL TRIBUNE Your Health and It's Care Br OR. WILLIAM BRADY. M.O. Readera ahould address Inquiries loi Or. William Brady, 265 Ei Camino. Bcvarly Hills. Calif. ONE-HORSE AND For some years I have assumed that you were really a specialist, a health specialist of the top F7T ran (writes pastor), but read in your l column today "I am not food specialist, mm a diet special ist. Just an or dinary doctor." If your readers are to believe this what are they to con elude abou Dr. Brady your criticisms of other doctors, especially those who are specialists? I have followed some of your meaestions in preference to ideas of personal physicians but unless you are qualified as a competent specialist, peyona the "ordinary", there is no wis dom in either following your ad- vIcr nr readine it. and I. for one, would like to know the fact, if your modesty will permit you to state it for the benefit of one who has been an admirer. (Signed. , Pastor. Church) My modesty boggles at no such trifle, sir. The fact is, as I have tried always to make every one understand, that I am plain, ordinary, plodding one- horse-and-buggy type oi aocior. As for being a specialist per haps, sir, you nave a naive no tion of what constitutes a spe cialist In medicine a specialist is an ordinary doctor who de votes himself and perhaps limit his practice to certain diseases. Neither by law nor by custom does a specialist necessarily sur pass the doctor who does gen eral practice, in knowledge or skill. Of course, after years of practice In hia limited field a specialist may and should be somewhat more capable of diag nosing and treating unusual cases in that field, but even then, always with the aid and counsel of the patient's family physican. I'm afraid, sir, that you may be one of the large eiumber of sim ple, trusting folk who think "specialists" are super-doctors and hence that one is smart if he passes by the "ordinary" doctor and goes straight to a "special ist" when he needs medical ad vice or treatment. The only real specialist, my dear ex-admirer, is the doctor who has engaged in general practice for at least ten years, found bis particular bent or in terest, pursued a serious course of post-graduate training In that field, and then finally announc ed that his practice is limited to that field. A real specialist depends al most exclusively upon the medi cal practitioners in his communi ty for patients the doctors rec ognize his ability and refer diffi cult cases or call him In consul tation. I'm sorry, reveVend sir, but the only specialty I could pos sibly claim as my own is Preven tive Medicine Or I might settle for Personal Health in fact, I suppose I have been practicing Preventive Medicine and Person al Health In my wava for vmm. Would that be an Inducement to you to stick with us a while longer, slrT ATTENTION BUILDERS CONTRACTORS ror your convenience, wt of fer a new . . , EQUIPMENT RENTAL SERVICE Air Compressors Air Tools Concrete Mixer Water Pumpt Elevators Trailers Power Saws Power Drills Power Units ' EATHERTON'S FARM STORE 808 So. Unlndulgent Husband I weigh 164 pounds (five feet three inches tali). I am quite active, but that doesn't help, as I only work up an appetite. My husband likes to stop at n nigm luncn place alter tne movies (which we attend once a week) and eat a bin snack. He Insists that I eat with him and becomes angry when X reiuse. wnat can l order that will not fatten? (Mrs. W. B. M.) Answer Sea food shrimp, clams, oysters, lobster Is good to eat, low in calorics. Tea or coffee yields no calor ies at all If you don't take sugar and milk or cream. Buttermilk Ts only half as nourishing or fattening as whole milk. Tomato Juice is even less nourishing or fattening than butter milk. Doubling as a member of Mr. Alexander's Mediation Board I'd say you should leave your diet plans at home and give your husband a pleas ant time of It sail In and eat a good hearty snack. Bumblebee Defies Aerodynamic Laws, Research Proves San Angelo, Tex., (U.R) The airworthiness of the bumblebee, alleged on scientific grounds to be unable to fly, has been de fended by the Aeronautical Chamber of Commerce. Pvt. Lyman A. Sayre of the San Angelo Army Air Field wrote the chamber in New York: "According to aerodynamics, the bumblebee should not be able to fly. Can you give us any proof, either pro or con, on this subject?" And the chamber'! technical department replied: "The laws of aerodynamics as applied to fixed wings would prove the bumblebee unable to REMEDIES FOR STOMACH ULCERS Heart Rheumatism. Oakland, Calif., May 8. (U.R) A spectacular five-alarm fire of unknown origin swept through the Bacon Vulcanlzer Manufacturing company early todny, causing damage estimated at $200,000.
