The cut will be In new farm machinery with the allotment for repair parts remaining the same. In creased military demands result ing from the fast pace of the war in Europe, WPB indicated, means no increase in allocations until after V-E day when a stepped-up farm machinery pro gram will be a "must" as soon as materials are available. Ma chinery production is now 12.2 per cent behind schedule, com pared with about 25 per cent last October. Farmers Up Wage Offers For Hired Help Farmers have raised wage rates paid hired labor to new record highs in neffort to se cure the help needed to plant 1945 war crops, the USDA re ports. April 1 farm wage rates averaged 10 per cent higher than a year ago 335 per cent of the 1910-14 average at the highest point for the wage rate index In 78 years of record. The extreme geographic variation In the wage structure continued with day rates without board ranging from a low of $2.10 in South Carolina to a high of $7,70 in Washington State. Family labor and numbers of hired farm workers were both down about one per cent from April 1, 1944. . R. O. Former support level was $12.50. The higher floor under the bog support price will remain In effect until Sept. 1, 1946, through the period when 1945 fall pigs will be marketed. For the same period, the OPA has guaranteed farmers that there will be no reduction in the ceil ing prices for live hogs from the present levels of $14.75 a hun dredweight, Chicago basis, for butchers and $14 for sows. WFA has asked farmers to raise 37 million fall pigs which is 18 per cent more than the number raised last fall when prospective feed supplies yere considerably less favorable than this year. The need for this higher produc tion of hogs places added em phasis on the need to meet the high feed grain goals.
