Farmers Up Wage Offers
For Hired Help
Farmers have raised wage
rates paid hired labor to new
record highs in neffort to se
cure the help needed to plant
1945 war crops, the USDA re
ports. April 1 farm wage rates
averaged 10 per cent higher
than a year ago 335 per cent
of the 1910-14 average at the
highest point for the wage rate
index In 78 years of record. The
extreme geographic variation In
the wage structure continued
with day rates without board
ranging from a low of $2.10 in
South Carolina to a high of
$7,70 in Washington State.
Family labor and numbers of
hired farm workers were both
down about one per cent from
April 1, 1944. .

has asked farmers to raise 37
million fall pigs which is 18 per
cent more than the number
raised last fall when prospective
feed supplies yere considerably
less favorable than this year.
The need for this higher produc
tion of hogs places added em
phasis on the need to meet the
high feed grain goals.
