RESISTANCE WOULD BE FINE IF YOU COULD HAVE IT There- ha'e been the usual number of Interruptions Into print this winter' to .warn the DUbllc 10 De- vara of eolnB i wltb .nsuHl- 1 dent clothing, getting wet feet, sitting In drafts and all that old ho le u m. Profes sors, health of fleers and "spec ia lists" who can do with a little Dr Bridr publicity have cheerfully written or dictated their views for the instruction of the public. Their views gen erally prove Irreconcilably con trary to the notions I try to im part to the public. You pays your money and takes your choice. It seems to ma that the reac tionaries are more vehement about "resistance" this season. Maybe I flattei myself, but I take it that my harping on the theme that apart from immu nity, such as immunity against diphtheria or Immunity against smallpox, which Is specific and even to a practical degree meas urable (say by applying the Schick test for Immunity to diphtheria) there is no such state as "lowered resistance" or "good resistance" against ill ness in general or even against all of the acute respiratory dis eases that these slick professors, health officer and "specialists" lump together as "colds" or "the common cold." I mean so far as I know. And all the profes sors, health bfflcers and "spe cialists" know about it is what they get out of their own Inner consciousness in other words they know no more about it than you and I do. If they are the uni form effected by the squealing studio audiences of some radio programs I'm opposed to them. The squealing is poorly timed and overdone and it is evidently too cheap. But if my opinion and advice are of any weight I reassure all readers that so far as health is concerned , it matters not at all whether you wear socks or nothing at all, in any weather, so long as you are comfortable. It la just plumb silly to put on any clothing you do not need for comfort, nq matter whether you are young or old, strong or feeble, healthy or ill.
