PARDON Here is a clipping, apparently from a newspaper, but I do not know whether it la from the Forenoon Clar ion or from Quip. Here, your Hp isn't cracked, read it: Cold Logia Start of the "cold season" last week brought these a n 1 1 snlffle tips f r nm Dr. Dr. Brady Frederick C. Smith, director of war de ment Civilian Medical Divi sion: 1. If you get wet feet, don't sit around all day in the same shoes. 2. Have two pairs of galosh es, one kept at the-office and one at home. (I, Brady, would Interject here tha'. if you have no office then the hell with It. You'll have to hire a small boy to carry your spares so they'll be always there if it should turn damp.) 3. Keep an extra pair of stockings and an old pair of shoes In the desk drawer. (For people who carry mail or shuck oysters for a living smart shops now feature the duckiest chenille knapsacks In charming pastel shades, with desk drawer compart ments for old shoes, stockings etc.) . 4. If a cold creeps up on you, eat lightly for a few days largely fruit juices, clear broths, milk, vegetables. 5. A hot bath, a hot drink and early to bed, warmly cov ered, fresh air in the room, should do for home treatment. A month ago I had what Dr Frederick C. Smith and a hun dred thousand of his colleagues would probably call a "cold" If I were reckless enough to con sult any of them. I ate as lightly as ever for a few days, including any fruit juices, soups, milk and vegetables I could get or like As for hot drinks, hot bath, early to bed, etc., there is no objection to them if you get any enjoy ment from such fussing but If a doctor suggested anything like that to me I'd give him the air When I became obviously fever ish (I refuse to use a clinical thermometer unless my physi cian finds It necessary) and maybe a bit more Irrational than I am ordinarily, they summoned a real doctor, who sized up the situation In a few well chosen words you could print on asbes tos. By skilful examination, not by guesswork, he found I had cute sinusits - tracheitis, - pre scribed careful use of one of the Drinks even Sound Setferi Drinks mixed with Canada Dry Water sparkle out loud. The great trouble with these "anti-sniffle tips" of Dr. Smith's and the profusion of similar sug gestions offered the dumb laity each year by publicity-hungry doctors and health officers Is that you never can tell where prevention ends and treatment begins and the "authorities" who hand out the comical rules know they are safe In sounding off that way just as long as your naivete lasts..
