ALEHER OF GAS REVENUE Salem, Ore., Jan. 24 OI.R) The counties share of the gas tax revenues taken In by the state highway department would be boosted from 15.7 to 20 per cent, and the minimum upped to $2, 800,000 from $2,000,000 under the provisions of a bill before the senate introduced by the roads and highways commission. The bill, originating with the Association of Oregon Counties, according to committee mem bers, is a continuation of the bi ennial struggle for a share of the bountiful gas revenues. National Forest Timber For Sal Sealed bids will be received by the Forest Supervisor, Med ford, Oregon, up to and not later than 2:00 P.M., February 3. 1945, for all the live timber marked or designated for cutting and all merchantable dead tim ber located on an area embrac ing about 100 acres within Sec tions 11 and 14, T. 31 S., R. 3 E., W.M., Rogue River National Forest, Oregon, estimated to be 600,000 feet B.M., more or less, of Douglas-fir, and an unestimat ed amount of other species of sawtimber. No bid of less than $4.70 per M feet for Douglas-fir, $8.60 per M feet for white pine, $5.60 per M feet for ponderosa pine, $9.60 per M feet for sugar pine and $2.10 per M feet for white fir, western hemlock, and other species will be considered. In determining the high bid, the rate for Douglas-fir only will be considered. Bids with rates in excess of those permissible under MP R 460 will be reduced to the allowable . maximum in making the award. In addition to the prices bid for the stump age, a cooperative deposit of $0.50 per M feet B.M. to be used by the Forest Service for paying the cost of slash disposal, and a cooperative deposit of $0.25 per M feet B.M. to cover the cost of tree planting, seed sowing and timber stand improvement work on the area cut over, for the total cut of timber under the terms of the agreement, will be required. $2,500 must accom ' pany each bid, to be applied on the purchase price, refunded or retained in part as liquidated damages, according to conditions of sale. The right to reject any and all bids is reserved. A county court may appoint either a Republican or Democrat when filling a legislative va cancy. At present the appointee must be of the same political party as the person he succeeds. A holder of public office may be a delegate to certain conven tions. At present, an official is not allowed to be a delegate to the conventions mentioned. , Executor's Final Notice . Vincent, former Medford man whd is now a pris oner of the Japanese and Intern ed in a prison camp on the Philippine islands. The card,, signed in Vincent's handwriting, stated his health was good and that he lives by "snatching fragments of bygone days." He stated that he is well treated but hopes for better days to come. Vincei.t left here with the na tional guard late In the summer of 1940. DONALD NELSON MAY WED CAMPUS QUEEN Washington, Jan. 24. (U.R) The capital heard rumors today that Donald M. Nelson, former war production chief and now a White House adviser, may marry 26-year-old Marguerite S. Coul bourne, the 1939 campus queen at George Washington univers ity. Neither the 56-year-old Nelson nor Miss Coulbourne would comment on the report. THE GRANGE Roxy Ann Grange Roxy Ann Grange met Janu ary 19, called to order by Wor thy Master Frank Hanson. There was some interesting discussion on pasteurized milk. Secretary Madge Nowlan read several letters from boys in the services thanking the Grange for the Christmas packages. Lone Pine P.T.A. was granted permission to hold a meeting in the Grange hall February 6. Marian Farrell will give a dem onstration on how to upholster furniture. Meeting to start at 10 a.m. Covered dish luncheon. Everyone is invited. Mrs. Elllojt of ways and means committee announced there will be a card party at Roxy Ann Grange hall Saturday night, February 27. Everyone is invited to come and bring a friend. H.E.C. met Jan. 17 with Mrs. Wilson. It was decided to hold a bazaar and rummage sale some time before Easter. Those having anything to donate please bring to Grange meeting. Roxy Ann Grange has been in vited to visit Griffin Creek Grange on their regular meeting night, Feb. 6. Lunch was served by Mr. and Mrs. Wilson and Mr. and Mrs. Carl Quackenbush. Next grange meeting will be February 2, with the Clarence Tedrick and Ben Allison families on the serving committee. (U.PJ Wide-mouthed Screen Actress Martha Raye today valued at $10,000 clothing and Jewelry stolen by a burglar who ran sacked her home Sunday night. Police said a burglar cut a screen and entered Miss Raye's suburban home while she and her husband, dancer Nick Con dos, were out. Missing articles included a $6000 mink coat. Alenderfer was appoint ed liaison officer between the Portland Shrine hospital for crippled children and the Jack son county Shrine club at a meeting at Holland hotel Tues day night. Sam Stelnbaugh, new ly elected potentate of Hillah Temple, was present at the meet ing. Alenderfer reported donations of $100 and securing of five life memberships in the hospital maintenance fund. A publicity committee for the club was formed, consisting of Ernest Price, Arthur Leavitt and Herb Gray. Entertainment was furnished at the meeting by the entertain ment committee. The meeting then adjourned to attend the Cra- terian theater as guests of the committee, Walter Leverette, George Hiles and Raymond neter.
